Thanks for taking the time to do this. Talked to several shops around town and none made me feel confident letting them tear into my truck. Just completed the same install ... did it all myself using your video... saved a ton of money. Loving my upgraded stereo!

Wow talk about watching the video a day late!!! Nice work. I just had to go by research, but nailed it on the first try. No noise, and started up first try. I'm using the "auto sense" feature and so far so good. I'm running all new 16 guage kicker speaker wire to kicker ks speakers, powered by a jl audio 400/4 amp. Subs will come later, that's why I added the lc7i even though my amp can convert speaker level inputs. I will say this, this install is not for the faint of heart. It's not complicated once you understand it, but the amount of work to re-wire speakers into factory boots will take a good 8 hours, and a lot of cussing and beer. You have to drill through connectors and run wire through boots if you want a clean look that doesn't look modified. Once the speaker wire is ran, only then can you "start" the install. Expect a mess of wires. Expect a full weekend to complete the job right. Of course that's only with new speaker wire. If you just ran two 9 wires/speedwire with power and ground, expect a full day from start to finish with everything buttoned back up and tuned. I decided to do everything now, in case I wanna go crazy later. I still think it's a good idea because I'm running 75 watts rms to each speaker now.

We've gotten to the point where your vehicle's stereo isn't just the sound box anymore. It's an integrated module that plays a key part in a lot of your vehicle's functions. When I had the stereo on my 08 expedition done, I replaced everything, including the stereo itself, as the technology in that truck was a little more basic as far as the stereo. My 2020 F150 is a bit of a different situation. All things considered, a line convertor, in my opinion, would be the best option for an aftermarket stereo install. Obviously, I'm taking price into consideration. I would much rather keep the factory entertainment module and simply tap into the speaker outputs and run them into a line convertor. I think the way this guy went about this installation is probably the best way to go for anyone who's looking to upgrade their sound system in a newer vehicle, but doesn't want to drain their bank account to do so.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. You had me going until you started to cut factory wires. I personally don't like that. I normally run new wires and get new factory plugs to match factory or any other radio I'm using. This way if I ever decide to sale or put it back to stock I can. Otherwise a great video with lots of details. Thanks again.

Great idea for the remote turn on wire. Some idiot audio shop hooked my amp’s remote turn on wire to the ignition circuit. Damn near crashed my truck when the fuse for the ignition circuit (and other electronics) blew out while I was on the highway, truck winded down to a sudden halt and I had just enough momentum to coast off to the side while other cars behind me were whooshed by wondering what the hell I am doing

Thanks for the wiring diagram. Used it to setup my own speakers. Didn't work at first and I couldn't figure out why, then I realized that I tapped the speakers wrong. I have the output/input wiring mixed. I'm amplifying zero signal lol. FML. Thanks for the vid though! This is a good tool for anyone running a 4" or 8" Ford F-150 stereo regardless of whether it's the 6 or 7 speaker system (as long as it's not the Sony system, in which case... good luck with that crap!).

PB, I can't thank you enough for your amazing video, so much that I ended up buying exactly the same PDX-V9 amp, Lc7i and same cables for the wiring. Last week I finished installing everything and it was all a success, except one thing! I believe me, I just went thru all your comments and replies to find the answer, which you did but I'm gonna push it further: How do you remove the constant hiss and engine (throttle noise) from the speakers. I used exactly the same group spot as you did, as well as sanding that spot and have bare metal now for that ground connection! Also, I ran the remote line from the fuse box, directly tap to the fuse, then to the lc7i's remote input, then from the lc7i's output to the Amp's remote input. I also bridge the power and negative from the lc7i to the Amp's conector just like you did. And finally, the settings in the lc7i are: Separate (for both ch2 & ch3) GTO: OFF Auto Mode: ON Ground isolation: ISO Note: I also tried the Jumper on 200 Ohms and ground position on the ground isolation Jumper and nothing, still have the hiss and engine noise! Believe me, all the ground are connected very well to a bare metal chasis ground. What else could it be? I also have high quality RCAs, isolated and everything! Also power and speaker wires are running different side of the car away from each other to avoid filtering noise... Do you think I should ground the lc7i to another independent ground, instead of connecting it to the amp's conector as you did!? Could it be behind the head unit? Since the signal wires are touching or so close from the output signal wires amplified already! Coming from the amp? By the head unit harness/conector? Please, your help is highly appreciated!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
Try grounding your LC7 separably. Try removing the "Remote Out" wire which goes between the LC7i to the amp and switch it over to the remote in as well (the same signal that the LC7i remote input uses from the fuse box). Try that for starters.
@seijiroikeda
@seijiroikeda 7 лет назад
PB, thank you so much for your prompt reply. I have to say I tried everything you mentioned and still I have the noise. I just realized that the only step from your installation is that I ran the remote cable from the fuse box along with the power cable coming from the battery! Since it was in the same side it was more convenient to run them together in the right side of the truck. - I don't think this would matter since the 12V remote line doesn't carry any big signal that will interfere with the power cable, but I'm doubting it now since it's the only step I have different from yours! What do you think? Should I relocate the remote line to the left side of the truck along with the signal cables? It's a mayor work removing all the panels and HU! I wanted to ask you this last question please! Thank you so much for your help!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
You can disconnect the remote wire and run a separate wire to test to see if it removes the noise before you start pulling panels. You could also look into ground loop isolators which may help.

While I appreciate you taking the time to do this for others, this could have been done a bit cleaner/easier/less complicated. Nobody should EVER EVER cut the stock radio harness unless absolutely necessary for starters. Coming from being MECP certified tech years back: 1. You should have used a T-Harness for the input / output of speaker signals. The customer could then easily remove the amp & sub if they sell the car with just a few harness clicks. This would also allow you to build the harness on the bench and solder / heatshrink all connections and label them instead of crimps. 2. Use 2 runs of speedwire for the 8 wire connections, then you could have mounted the crossovers in the doors and ran the tweeter wires all inside the doors then up the A-Pilliar without running the wiring all over the cab where it is prone to picking up electrical noise. Also is an option to mount the tweeters on the upper door above the panel using an aftermarket piece. Then all the crossover/tweeter/speaker wiring can use the factory wiring in the doors. 3. Using a piece of ABS to mount the amp, lc7i and crossovers would help secure it. Then mounting that piece of ABS to a factory bolt location. Great spot though. Give @5StarCarAudio's channel a watch they do it right and "super clean" because I'm sorry to say this install was not "Super Clean" not trying to bash you, but hopefully make you aware so others learn.

Thank you for this video man. I've watched it 30 times to figure out what I am going to do with my 2017 F150 XLT. I am going to go with component speakers in the front but I'm kind of confused which wires get the tweeters. My crossovers will go in the A-pillar, unless it's just easier to have them in the back. Once again awesome video dude!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 6 лет назад
The tweeters just run in parallel with the front door speakers so we ran our own tweeter wiring from the crossovers we installed under that back seat directly to the new tweeters in the A pillars. If you have a set of tweeters with built in cross overs, you can use the exiting wiring in the a pillar since that runs in parallel with the door speaker, and essentially is being powered by the new amplifier. Good luck with your install!

You don’t need a remote in that’s why it has a gto when you connect the inputs from your hu to the lc7i it generates a remote out to the amp
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 6 лет назад
We ran a remote because every time you would open the door, a signal is generated through the factory radio, kicking on the amplifier if we used the signal sense on the LC7. We ran our own remote turn on wire to gain more control on when the amplifier turns on and off.

I'm curious if you have ever ran into noise issues due to the ecoboost Lariat trim and above. I've been thinking about upgrading my sound system in a 2015 F150 3.5 Ecoboost Lariat, but am hesitant based on what I've been reading about Ford's "Fake Engine Noise". They say the "Fake Engine Noise", when activated, will cause interference with the amplifier, producing loud obnoxious sound from the speakers. Since you have several F150 amp/speaker installs (which are amazing with great detail!) I figured you would have come across this issue. It looks like Ford can disable through IDS and is the only way out of the problem on non-Sony version radios. With the Sony radio type, it looks like two wires feeding into the stock amp can be removed from the plug to fix this. I have the non-Sony type. Thanks for the great video and hope to hear your thoughts.

Hey Provo, Excellent tutorial! A few questions before I buy everything to rig my truck please... 1. In order to avoid needing a LOC, what feature should I be looking for in an amp? I figure dropping more into the amp would be better than buying a lesser amp because I'd be dropping cash into an LC7. 2. Is it safe to say that you will loose voice commands through the speakers with this set up (LC7)? If using an amp without the LC7, I assume the regular voice commands would not be affected? 3. What was the purpose of the crossovers? What make and model are the ones used in the tutorial? I don't see any info on them. Would love to see you do a crossover tutorial as well! 4. If I leave my pillar tweeters stick for now, am I risking blowing them because the amp is pushing more power to them? Thanks again for the amazing video! Super helpful, and I am looking forward to getting an amp in my truck asap!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
1. Find an amp with high level inputs, lessening the need for a line out converter. 2. The factory functions should not be affected as essentially you are just amplifying the signal. 3. Crossovers provide the correct frequencies to both a mid-range speaker and a tweeter. Some speakers have them built onto the speaker itself, so depending on your equipment, they may not be needed. 4. You should be fine for now leaving the stock tweeters, they have their own built in crossovers so as long as your amp is tuned right, you should be fine. I don't have the truck anymore as this was a customer vehicle, so hopefully this helps.

Well, I did it and very happy with the results. Left out the crossovers and the LC7 and just used a couple of LOC's. For those that think it's just not worth it... I kept it pretty simple and inexpensive, and it is an impressive upgrade. My $290 Alpine amp with $300 for 4 alpine door speakers, and my old sub box with 2 x 10" pioneers... sounds amazing! Thanks for doing this tutorial so clearly Provo! Would never had tackled it without your vid! Cheers

My Lc7 is on the way. I was planning on just pulling the ford speaker wires from the doors and wiring them straight to the Lc7 for both signal and remote turn on and then back to the new speakers from the amp. I noticed in the comments that this would turn on the amp for a sec every time I opened my doors? Don't like that idea so much. Wouldn't adding a remote turn on wire from the fuse box eliminate that problem and keep me from having to mess with the stock head unit like you did? that looked like a serious pain! Would I lose my door chimes if I hooked in after the head unit?
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
Yep, pros and cons of both. We originally installed this with the LC7's sensory setting and every time the speakers played any audio, it triggered it to turn on. We decided to forgo that method and run a hard line to the fuse box. Try both, its worth a shot. Find what best works for you.

I wish you were local. I just bought a 2018 XLT Crew cab with the sync3 system and nav. I also have a couple of older but barely used fosgate amps. One is 1500 watts that used to power 2 -12" W6's and an 800 watt that did all the rest in a yukon extended I had. I want to get an under the back seat custom box to run those W6's again or a custom box and a couple of 12's or 3 to 4- 10's angled or however they would fit. Then use the 800 watt to do some real mids and front doors and tweeters with a sync3 conversion or whatever you call it. But maybe just maybe somehow or some way use my just as barely used 10 band with sub out kenwood high end EQ. If I couldnt use it I understand. But maybe an app that can run an eq. Or how is that done? I really want this in my new truck badly.

Thanks for the quick response. By the way, Awesome video! This video will definitely be a large part of my self install. I have a few questions. Did the customer get aftermarket rear speakers? I saw that you cut the rear speaker wires from the factory receiver and had it connect through the line out converter and amp. Was this for future aftermarket install? I am keeping factory rear speakers for now. I do plan to upgrade in the future (not sure when). Would it be better to have it wired through the amp and run the factory speakers for now, or should I save the trouble this time around and leave the rear speaker lines uncut? I have the SuperCrew, will I need longer wires or will what you showed in the video/listed in comments suffice? Lastly, do you know of any sub boxes that are on the market that go behind the rear seats? I'd like to use the under side of the rear seats as storage. Your expertise is much appreciated. Btw, I ended up going with the LC7i. Thanks again.
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
The customer decided to hold of on doing rear speakers. We amplified the factory rear speakers, just like the front speakers. Since this was a 5 channel amp used, we amplified the front and rear doors. Tweeters were on the same line as the front doors.The length of wire in the video should be adequate. Sub box, really the sky is the limit. Just measure the area behind the rear seats and go on amazon and search a box that would fit. I don't have any specifics on that one for now sorry.

Excellent and detailed video. Been searching for this everywhere. I read that the LC7 can turn on with just the signal from the line side speaker wires without needing a remote wire. Is this true?
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
Yep, you are very right. The only downside is that for any audio, even like a door chime, it will boot up the LC7 and amplifier, and the customer's truck in the video didn't want that functionality, so we just ran a line to the fuse box.
@ogscythe6118
@ogscythe6118 7 лет назад
It's called GTO. Not sure how bad of a nuisance it was for the customer but It's not THAT bad. You avoid having to run an additional wire and the LC7i has remote outs for the amp(s) and other equipment (I'm also running the EQS).
@markj6706
@markj6706 6 лет назад
Provo Beast Audio Installation that's not true. You disconnected all speaker wires from the factory head unit so LC7i would never receive that signal of a door chime. But by also sticking a remote wire into any 12v assoc. Will also turn on the Lc7i any time you turn the car on even if the radio is never turned on.

Amazing job bro. I’m doing the same set up in my 2013 Malibu using a 5 Chanel MB quart onyx 1100.5. My only question (I’m not sure if i missed it) is I’m not sure where to get signal for the subs. We will actually be uploading a full Malibu install with a 5 channel amp later this month. Generally you can piggy back on the factory speaker lines to tap into signal for your line out converter.

@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 6 лет назад
If you are referring to the factory wiring harness with the factory amplifier, then that may be the best place to tap into for signal. You can tap into the factory amp with a line out converter for your signal, or tap into the factory amp inputs which generally is a low level signal which may not require an LOC. Generally, those factory amps are located behind the back seat or under the center console.

This Ford wasn't equipped with the Ford Active Noise Canceling feature and all components fit under the back seat. There is a bit of space behind the back seats which makes for a generally good location for a slim fit box and sub.

I have the Factory Sony system. Adding a 5 channel AMP, using front components and running new wire to the tweeters from the rear mounted cross overs. How and where can I access into the factory wire that goes to the front doors and the rear doors? Your video splices in behind the HU but don't I need to tap into the speaker wires somewhere after the rear mounted Sony AMP. Too difficult to just run new wire driect to the speakers as there are molex connectors in the doors and no room.Thanks for the help, I am stuck and nobody seems too be able to help!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
Instead of tapping behind the radio in the dash, the Sony amp is commonly found underneath the center console. That amp will have an input from the radio and an output to the speakers. This is where you will want to tap into for the input signal (from the radio) and output signal (leading to your speakers). Now if your sony amp is in the rear behind the seats, it will save you time to access it.

PB - AMP1 requires 80A fuse and AMP2 60A fuse (amps do not have built-in fuses); Q1 - what fuse value should be installed between battery and distribution block? Q2 - do I need 'additional' fuses 80A and 60A respectively between the terminal block and amps? please advise. Thanks PB!
@ProvoBeastAudio
@ProvoBeastAudio 7 лет назад
Well, it is up to you. I suggest at minimum a fuse between the battery and distribution block, closest to the battery as possible. You could get away with a 150a fuse on that run of cable. Since your amps do not have internal fuses, you can add additional fuses between the distribution block and the amps themselves, one both at 80 - 100 amps. The fuse under the hood is mandatory, but the others are recommended, but not absolutely necessary.

why go to the lc7 and then come back? why not just use scotch locks to tap into the wire so you can run half the amount of wires?
@williamdevineii9019
@williamdevineii9019 5 лет назад
I'm guessing because you can't tap into a wire for a source then turn around and output to it as well. If you use Scotch Locks you'd need to run a separate wire directly to the speakers. He did it this way so he didn't have to run separate speaker wires to each door for an easier install and ability to use stock speakers until you replace the speakers.

Is there any way to amp the 5th center speaker with that amp? Wouldnt it be better to disconnect the 5th speaker if you weren't planning to amp it cause everytime you crank it up that distortion would be pretty obvious and make the whole system sound worse.

I am about to place an order for a new truck. Ford wants $1,300 for a upgraded Bang Olufsen system with sub woofer and amp. What would you recommend as an after market system for that price, up to $1,500 (not including install). New speakers, 5 ch. amp, subwoofer driver (I will make a custom enclosure), crossovers and controllers. I don't desire to ultra customize my sound, I just want clarity and power. I listen to reggae, hip hop and jazz.

Alpine and Pioneer make a decent 5 channel amp (more recognizable brands), but there are also others. Alpine also makes very decent speakers (type s and type r) as well as Hertz, Infinity, and CT Sounds. For a sub, you will need to determine where you want to place it (behind the seat or under the seat), but amazon has a good selection of prefab boxes. NVX makes great wiring, so does Stinger and Knuconcepts where you can pick up a kit.
