Super easy install. Looks great.Clear lense red flector looks sharp against the black. Couple of tips instead of drilling and cutting all the way through one side of the gromment just make one slice about half inch long in the center, the spades will slide through one at a time and the gromment will attach more firmly. It is compromised being cut to the edge as shown in the video. Also leave the plastic protective film on the light and slide through the back it will not get scratched and its much easier of an install. Then when almost in place pull plastic off when there is no longer anything to scratch the lense. Lastly the inner liner does not have to be completely removed if you get the quick wiring harness just the one in the rear will give access enough to do the quick eay connections. I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner and literally went to the garge spent 15 minutes and the install was done.
I just purchased and installed this rear fog light with the plug and play harness only. I did notice with lights ON and depressing the brakes, the rear fog lamp does flash 3 times. I'm guessing this is normal. Just a tip...when installing, I like to install a VERY small thin washer in between the metal bracket and fog lamp housing. This straightens up the fog lamp as mine was a little off. Nothing serious...it's just my OCD kicking in. Overall very satisfied. Awesome product and service. Keep up the awesome work SubieBros. I will continue purchasing products from you in the future.
Hi gorillahunter! Thanks for the feedback. The flashing is normal by defauly If you don't want the flashing function you cal simply unplug the red wire coming from your rear fog light at the DI controller. It will still have dual intensity but without the flashing.
Toggle Switch: The new versions have three wires black, red, and green (replacing yellow). Once you've fed all of them up. Cut off about 6-9 inches off the end of the red. I removed the end purple crimp piece. Once you have two ends, strip as DJ shows and crimp down. My crimp didn't work so I used electrical tape. Cut out a hole near where dj did and put a male and female end of the 6 inch piece you cut. Then follow the red wire coming from the fog lamp all the way into the switch (0). Plug the small piece into the other switch (I), take the (I) switch and plug it to the DI unit or t tap accordingly and voila, you have a working toggle switch. Loving this thing thanks DJ for your help and email response!! Got matte black, kinda look like diamond studs in there on Silica Black paint
Just finished this install on my 17 STI. As shown except that my driver side rubber grommet had a harness already running through it. Just used the passenger side one and connected the subiebros PNP harness to the right side brake light assembly. I skipped the inline off switch. Works great in all modes. Very satisfied!
Great video, as always! Quick question, I noticed that in the video you installed the rear fog light from the front (exterior), while in other installation videos the rear fog light had to be installed from the rear (interior), under the bumper. Why is that? Is this particular rear fog light smaller than others? Or is the WRX rear fog light hole larger than the STI?
This is the one i wanna buy. Can it be wired so it isn't on when headlights are on. I want it only on with f1 blink feature when i use the breaks. Just like the rear window light.😉
Should be able to. The running light and the brake light have separate leads. If you only want the brake light you should be able to leave the running light disconnected and be fine. Have not done this mod yet but i dont see why that would not work.
Which type of sealant did you use? I want to make sure I use sealant that won’t eat through the wiring. I was thinking Dap Auto and Marine sealant. Is that what you guys used?
My F1 Fog light came with a Red Black and yellow, but the plug and play i got from you guys SubieBros was Red Black and Green? Im guessing Green goes with Yellow??
You simply just have to install the components in the correct order - which is this sequence: Tail Light - Tail as Turn - Plug and Play Harness - Factory Harness.
If anyone ever needs to replace that body plug you cut into, at the time of this writing the Subaru part# is 909400004 The JDM Fog Light you wont need to cut into this plug for the wiring harness. You would route it differently. I made this mistake.
Apologies if i am digressing. I am interested in this rear fog light but I also have the aftermarket led bumper lights that light up when you brake. Is installing three brake lights (2 bumper and this rear fog) considered illegal in NY city? I googled and couldn't find any info. Thanks.
Any install videos without the pnp harness? I got the tail as turn module installed with the dual intensity harness. Can't seem to get it to work properly.
Without the dual intensity controller you have to choose if it is a running light OR a brake light (not both). With the dual intensity it functions as both.
What are the correct wires to hook up the dual intensity exactly? I was able to get the fog light to dim down 50% and light up 100% when the brakes depressed so it seems the wires are in the correct spot. However, I am unable to get my flashing function working now when brakes are depressed. I re-tapped everything and unconnected/re-connected the yellow wires between light and wire itself and still no bueno. Help?
Hey. I want the dual intensity function on my set up. Do I need yo buy the Quick Connect harness in order to use the DI ? I currently have the t-tap set up into factory harness. Thanks
Just ordered, i just wanted to see how to install before I attempt. Quick question, I ordered the dual intensity and the plug and play wiring harness, but I don't want the flashing function, is there a way for me to do that or do I need the switch?
You can simply elect to not connect the flashing function wire (red) to the DI controller. This will make the light work as dual intensity without any flashing. The toggle switch is just for those who may want to switch it on or off without having to remove their trunk liner every time.
idk if this is LED or halogen ? ,,, oem tails are LED but my oem fog is halogen which gives it a strange look ,, I would upgrade to this if its only LED and I got no problem to make it work with my tail as turn stuff
It is LED. It is a rear fog light found in the japanese version of the WRX. Here in the united states we dont get it from the dealer we have to buy it from third party distributors. Lucky US.
The way I see it, you and I just decided to wait a while until others worked out all the kinks and flaws so that we could avoid the troubles they dealt with.. 🤣 Anyways, hope you’re enjoying the new WRX like I am!
I purchased the rear fog light with all plug and play, DI and switch on/ off. I don't not see and extra wires or the yellow wire for the toggle to be connected Any instructions for me?
Take your red wire (or yellow if its an older wiring version) and plug it into any switch, and a wire coming off the other spade connection on the switch, then connect that to the wire going to the tail light. A switch is only a breaking point for the power. So when the switch is off the flashing light wont flash it just stays on when brake is depressed. If you turn switch on it allows power to transfer to the flashing light operation of the rear fog light.
Yes, the install is virtually the same but there are a few less steps which will be obvious as you go through the process. (like no switch install). Please email us if you have any questions.
Hi Nathan, I am not sure if you mean the plug and play harness or the DI Controller, in either scenario you can install the switch to allow yourself to easily toggle the light on and off or you can elect to not connect the wire that controls the flashing function, it just depends if you want to be able to toggle it.
What are those 3 red connectors on the harness called? I purchased your harness but in need 3 more of those red connectors to connect them to the rear fog as I bought an aftermarket fog kit that doesn't include those connectors.
Yes if you have the plastice vent in the center of you bumper this replaces that. Its called a fog light becuase makes the vehicle more visible in foggy conditions. You dont need front fog lights for this to work. It operates off the rear tailight signals.
I have same exact color car. Which lens is in the video, clear, red, or smoke? I looked for a phone number to call, no luck... sent an email asking the same exact question, and no response. I have several hundred dollars worth of merchandise that I'd like to spend on your site. Please help... thanks...
Hello Dizayne, sorry about that - we don't see an email not sure what happend. The light in this video is the solid red lens which is the best selling version.
Thank you for your quick response. Quick question, do you have any red led lights that I can use to illuminate my cup holders? And possibly a demo of what it looks like if you sell it?
