Never seen this match! I don't think people who were watching this were thinking that was the future no-gi GOAT. It is amazing what GR has done with his hard work and confidence in himself.
The world saw Gordon really putting it all together when he won his first EBI. Before that he was a good east coast grappler. After that, he went on to become world class. Also, look at how the ADCC North American Trials had grown from just 2015 to 2022.
"You've got 45 seconds mike, keep your distance". This is my problem with points in jiu jitsu. It's not about winning. It's about getting an edge without actually finishing, then avoiding a loss.
Aaron HS Technically, it was about winning. Unfortunately, avoiding risks helps get the win. The rules are at fault, as people adapt to the rules in order to win.
If you were in his position and you were up, would you actually sacrifice points just to attempt a sub and end up losing with less than a minute left? These guys no doubt are amzing submission artists and can tap any average joe like you but when you put two good fighters against each other, of course its about winning and of course they are still thinking about the sub but winning is everything.
And btw Gordon Ryan just subbed 5 guys at ADCC including legends and mike perez is a beast who tears shit up and just got his blackbelt so dont think they dont know their subs
