This video is 5 yrs old now, yet I find myself watching and enjoying it like it was filmed just yesterday. In 2015 I dreamt of having one. Flash forward and to my own surprise...I finally have a Z06, w/ the z07 package. Only in America!

That's awesome, you should definitely enjoy that car. I've been wanting one for the last year and when the market comes down a bit more, I plan on picking up a targa top z06 with the 7 speed manual. The c8 is a huge disappointment imo

Of course he gets no tickets. Jay hires off duty cops, at overtime pay, to provide the rolling roadblocks he uses for his Mulholland test rides. He also gives his time to do stand-up for all the police charity events. He'd have to kill someone, live on camera, to get arrested in California. Tickets? I don't think so.

It's simple, to beat this car, you have to spend $1 million for a McLaren P1, Porsche 918 or the LaFerrari. The Z06 is my favorite car. An american car that offers the same performance and quality as many european exotics at half the price. What is there not to love? Jay is right. Being american does give me a sense of pride. God bless america, and thank you General Motors for producing an EPIC car!

Harrison Conyers ive ran from pigs many time. in cars with half the power of this. nd got away. the key is keep busting turns nd as soon as ur not in sight park the car nd ditch it as fast as u cud. its accually really easy avoiding the pigs.

My guess is Shad didn’t know about that little hood thingy, it’s a common thing with this very light weight carbon fibre hon on the z06, there’s no weight in the dam thing to get enough inertia to lock itself, no biggie, the sacrifices we make for light carbon fibre, :) It definitely caught him off guard.

The Viper engine is made to be tuned, and it's naturally aspirated. There are tuned viper engines that have over 1,500 HP.

***** I think you mean Oldsmobile not Pontiac, and no it is not a gas engine. It was a total separate casting made for diesel use. Come on you really think a thin cast cylinder wall made for gas would live with a diesels high cylinder pressure. All though a lot were converted to gas because of the poor performance the diesel had. Oldsmobile legend Joe Mondello used to sell the conversion kit.

The hood latches on both sides, so you've got to push down on both sides. Maybe if the hood was heavier it wouldn't be an issue, but the hood is closing properly.

GTR owner here from UK, I must admit I absolutely love the new Corvette, sounds absolutely epic, as others have said you can't beat the sound of an American V8. It would be great if GM would stick the steering wheel on the other side and import them properly through dealers in the UK.

The steering wheel has been said for yrs. Problem here GM is pulling out in UK. Some changes would be needed to switch sides. If the demand was great I do think GM would look into it. Because there is some cost in developing, I doubt a switch will be done.

Johnny641 Lotus Elise owner from America, I absolutely love all well-engineered European (and foreign) vehicles, because like you, I'm not "playing for a specific team" like most ignorant auto-enthusiasts. Johnny, you've re-inspired my faith in auto-enthusiast, I thought all Europeans senselessly hated us for our big V8's, It's epic to see a car-enthusiast that can "like outside his box". Problem is most Euro boys are pompous dbags that like to hate on anything American and consider all Euro cars superior so sales of the Corvette is quite low in that region, no reason for GM to waste money retooling their factories to produce them with steering wheels on the other side.

Son37Lumiere Thought it wouldn't be long before some one had to add a Troll comment. The reason sales are low for the likes of Corvette etc.. in Europe are high import costs and no local support for warranty/parts as GM generally will not import them. Nothing to do with car enthusiasts "hating on America". The Mustang will be sold as a right hand drive for UK and it has been well received so far.

Johnny641 I watch Top Gear UK, I see them consistently bash America and American cars. I also have met many Europeans who have said as much, that American cars are cheaply made junk, they're cheap because of the bailouts, they will never be a Ferrari blah blah blah. Even with import taxes and VAT, etc. they are generally cheaper than Euro counterparts, this car is still significantly cheaper than Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren etc. Of course there are exceptions but not too many, Norway loves American cars. Having said that, the new C7 and Z06 are too good for most of them to ignore now.

I really love American cars for their price and performance! If you had little over 100.000$ to spend on a sportscar you would get something with around 300 horsepowers in Europe, in America you get nearly 650 and the torque of a Mclaren P1. Also these cars are ALOT cheaper to own than a Ferrari for example. They also use the same breaks (Brembo CCB) which on a Ferrari costs maybe 40,000$ to change pads and disks all around. On a Corvette it is probably less than half the price. But they are the same breaks, only difference is the Ferrari painted logo on the caliper. So fucking sad, also this car would murder a 458 or a 599 in a straight line. The quality of the Corvette probably stinks but it's still a great car.

Thing is the Corvette will never go down well in Europe because its so big and hard to drive on our roads (Plus no RHD) Yes In the US its a bargain but once you add all the shipping costs etc to get it to Europe its a £100k car just like a Porsche etc. I like the fact that Corvette have made an effort to fill a void in the super car market and have cleverly used US Tax payers money to develop the car to keep costs down but its an American car that will do well in America but they have not build it with any sort of export in mind which is why people in Europe will be scratching there heads thinking why are the Americans making such a big deal about a car we can't buy.

K2edg I agree, In Sweden a base Corvette 2014 year model is nearly 100,000$ which is 58,000$ in the US. The Z06 will probably be above 160,000$ like the previous ZR1 which is right in the 911 price range. And don't get me wrong i'd take a 911 any day over any Corvette.

That 8 speed auto is good for two things only--Traffic, and drag racing, otherwise, I 'd keep my 6 spd maual Vette, even drag racing there's nothing like shifting hard and fast!

Hard and fast? You might be able to shift "harder" in manual, but a modern automatic always shifts faster than any human these days. Manual is more fun. Automatic is faster.

When the c7 came out i didn't like it much. I was like the c6 is the best it ever got.. 4-5 years later and finally I love the c7! Test drove a z06 last August and I fell inlove with the power! I currently own a 16 z06 3lz. There are alot of little annoying things I don't like but you can live with them.

I moved to Ohio in 1993 to work there for 3 years. I knew NOTHING about American cars but had fun trying them out. I bought a C4 Corvette which I still have today and still love driving it as much now as I did back then. My everyday car, now I'm back in the UK, is an A250 AMG Merc, which I love to drive and is a lot of fun but is not a Corvette. Jay, thanks for the Z06 review. I had a friend when I was in Highschool who's parents had a Vette convertable. His dad lost control of the car while going down a canyon road, the car flipped, the seatbelt decapitated the mom, and the dad, who was also wearing a seat-belt, got is upper torso ripped off and projected 50 feet away from the car. My buddy went from kid in a happy family, to no parents in the blink of an eye. The worst part was, I got a new bike and loaned it to the kid a few days prior, after the accident I needed the bike back, but felt it would be rude to ask for it back mere days after he lost his parents. ...fuckin Corvettes.

+Trevon Atram I kind of agree, but more think the convertible loses the outstanding lines of the coupe and looks way way too much like the C6 convertible. The C7 roof line on the targa top looks awesome.

+blackericdenice thank you - thought i was the only one who caught that.. a C6 Z06 weighs something like 3,150lbs, & my '03 C5 Z06 is closer to 3,100lbs.. i was shocked to hear how much heavier the C7 Z06 is.

+blackericdenice well, generally speaking, Z06's have always been light cars [consistently under-cutting their base models by a few hundred pounds], but 3500lbs? that's not really "light" to me when previous gens have been WELL under that.. i can understand some increase since they went to dry sump [good move], but 450lbs more!? on a newer model that bases itself on being light-weight for the track?? seems like a step backwards to me.. sucks that the C7 continues to be such a disappointment for me - hoping the C8 can spark my interest just like the C5 & C6 gens did/do.

+yuskjr The Z06 is wider and longer than the normal Vette, and with more engine and the strongest brakes of any production car, the few hundred pounds more adds up. But when it's clocked going 0-60 in 2.95 seconds and handles and looks as good as it does, it makes sense.

+Mike S C5/C6 Z06's were both wider/longer than their base models, but weighed much less; C5/C6 Z06's were only ~3100lbs or a little more, so how can the new one weigh 400lbs+ more with lighter carbon fiber construction? i know it has a dry sump, but that doesn't add over 400lbs.. i know the new C7 Z06 goes 0-60 in something like 3 seconds, but it's really not "light" at 3500lbs+.. I'm just very confused at the huge increase in weight & where it came from.

The only reason that it's easy to pick on old corvette's interiors is because they used the exact same steering wheel as a Cavalier. As a Cavalier owner, it makes me giggle. Maybe I should take my wheel off and replace it with one with the Corvette badge...

Its the same on this one... a lot of the switches inside are gm-standard parts. Indicator-stalks are the same as on the opel/vauxhall insignia. But why not? Ist just a switch! No need to overdo it. Or what do you think the price is coming from? :-)

The internet is full of haters and people who have nothing better to do. I like most of the cars Jay features. Even brands I don't own. If it has wheels I generally can finds something to like about it. Whether that be performance or style or just from another time period way before my time. Yeah I could give all other cars other than what I buy or like a thumbs down but hey I think it's small minded. I love the interior improvements of the C7. What I don't like is the fact that this Z06 is 400lbs heavier than the C6 version. Also miss the LS7.

Stiffer chassis does push weight up. New side impact and frontal crash standards are reasons for weight gain too. If I'm not mistaken there are around 4 air bags in this vehicle.

So this car weighs as much as my family van just about. Our Mazda MPV is 3,700-3,800 pounds, this coupe non the less is 3,500 pounds. I know the difference in engine size but still, the weight is too much in my opinion.

While the Corvette is heavier than it has been before this is by no means heavy. Most cars it competes with are in the same vicinity, and AWD cars like the GTR are closer to 3800lbs. Most of the added weight over the C6 has been from improved luxury and interior refinement that Europeans find so important.

Weight by itself has no importance, weight to horsepower is what matters, the c7 z06 is around 5 horsepower to 1 lb. compared to and average formula one cars that have a 2 to 1, while your mazda has an 18 to 1 ratio. Then you have to factor in the amount of drag the vehicle hA and many other variables and then you'll realize how 3,700 lbs for a corvette is really light.

Mike Lucci Weight makes all the difference in handling though. With more weight to change direction, you need more and more grip, which comes in the form of wide, super sticky tires. Wide, sticky tires are very prove to following cambers, meaning that the suspension needs a serious redesign to minimize these effects so the car doesn't skitter all over the road. Lightweight is the way to get performance: as per Colin Chapman!

WTF is Jay talking about @ 3:37 saying the McLaren P1 is only a 1/10th of a second faster in the 1/4 mile then the Z06 hahaha. The Z06 runs a 117.2 @ 128 mph... The McLaren P1 runs 9.70's @ 152 mph hahahaha... Thats like a Hayabusa racing a GSXR 600 lol...
