Finally, someone who has difficulty removing the wheel bearing! Great video and great explanation of the different methods you used!

This is why I have a complete rear knuckle coming via UPS today... Saves a lot of time and aggravation...

OMG... I wish I saw your video sooner. I fought with my rear wheel bearing on a '17 explorer for hours. After the slam hammer tool separated the bearing into two halves, I had to remove the entire knuckle and beat it out with a sledge hammer and a huge socket after setting the knuckle up on blocks. It was a miserable experience. Now I'll but that hub buster and do the other three bearings. I never knew that thing existed. Thank you.

Sorry to hear you struggled. Those rear bearings are always a fight. I’ve since started pulling the whole knuckle off and putting it in the shop press. Seemed a bit faster on the last one I did anyway.

@@Tomsfoolery. I agree. When i do the other side, I'll just remove the knuckle from the get go.

Great video man! It's nice to see a michigan guy, working on a car with rust. It always seems people work on almost new southern cars. It's a totally different beast! Thanks!

This was a great video. Had the same problems the entire time with my 2014 FWD Explorer. Hub Buster, Slide Hammer would not budge the bearing. The Astro Last Chance kit was able to break it free with no trouble. Thanks for the video and tips.

This was the most suspenful vid on the d*** Explorer wheel hub. I was puliing for you the whole time. Long live the Hub Buster. This was better than a murder mystery. I have this problem now. I will look for the Hub Buster. thanks Whitt, Iva, SC

I’ve seen this hub buster used on other videos and here is a tip. It appears that the cars suspension is absorbing some of the force when you hit the hub buster. If you use a jack stand under the knuckle when you hit it the hub would take all the force and might work better.

Best to use 3 jack bolts at the same time to get it out evenly. Move every one a litle bit at a time so it does not bind. I did 3 since the 2 are not centered. I just use old head bolts or anything that is a hard bolt. The key is to push evenly so it does not bind.

Good info! The most recent ones I’ve done, I removed the knuckle and place them in the shop press. The job went a bit quicker that way. These are the most difficult hubs to remove!

I think your best bet would be to combine the two: meaning, put your bolts on there and get them pushing a lot of pressure--- and then get your beater stick back on there somehow and hit it WHILE the bolts are already pushing that high pressure. The combination of high tension and high impact at the same time will make it listen a little better.
@Tomsfoolery.

That's a good idea and would likely work well! Thanks!

If need be, would you be able to pull that CV axle through the bearing hole?
@kevchev9952
@kevchev9952 4 месяца назад
There's no need to remove the wheel speed sensor. The sensor staves in through the knuckle on the back side of the bearing / hub assembly and will be untouched by the hub assembly removal.

That kit isn't throw away if you used the hardened nuts that came with it. If I'm not mistaken, you used your own nuts and they were too soft. (unless I missed something).

The axle shaft moves around quite a bit when removing the hub. The plastic sensors break very easily! I learned from experience!

@Tomsfoolery. Год назад
You'd pull your arm off before pulling that hub off using a slide hammer. They are the most difficult bearings to remove! Honestly, they don't need bolts lol. The most recent one I did, I removed the whole knuckle and put it in the shop press to push the hub assembly out. That actually worked best.
