I live in Germany and have been driving a 2008 FX 35. I absolutely adore it and will be picking up my new 2016 QX 70 next week. After considering all the comparable European models, I chose the Infiniti again because of its unique styling. It turns more heads than any Porsche, VW or BMW.

Loved the video. Just switched from the X5 to a 2014 Infiniti QX70 and couldn't be happier. This is an SUV that doesn't ride like one. I was surprised to find how few were available.

I bought an FX30D after ML, Cayenne and Range Rover Sport ownership and I rate this car above all of them. Whilst some of the interior plastics won't match a new Cayenne for example, you're not paying Cayenne prices, especially if buying used. The diamond stitched leather quality is excellent and the build quality is truly superb as you would expect from a Japanese brand, which is part of the appeal for me. Not a squeak or rattle on my 5 year old example. The standard specification of the Premium S spec is truly off the scale - go spec a Macan S Diesel the same as an FX and make sure you have a stiff drink to hand. Halogen headlights on the Macan S in 2018!! Of course the FX has adaptive bi-xenons, which not only move with the wheel but they also lengthen the beam with speed and vary the width too, so just like the optional Porsche Adaptive Lighting but without the cost. Standard keyless entry with key memory, BOSE, Bluetooth phone/audio, 3D nav, power tailgate, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning and prevention, forward collision warning, ambient lighting behind each door pull (change the LED bulbs for brighter or coloured examples!) sunroof and the dual zone climate control with auto air quality sensor is one of the best systems I have used as it's very much set and forget but also very effective. The extremely comfortable sports seats have 18 adjustments (14 way powered) on the drivers side, 12 adjustments (8 way powered) on the passenger side, 2 position seat/mirror/wheel memory, 3 stage seat heating/ventilation and power steering wheel adjustment, which are all optional on your Porker. The rear seats recline manually and the actual amount of recline wouldn't look out of place in a LWB S-class. Extremely comfortable! The standard easy entry/exit function is very useful if you are 6'3" like me (no headroom issues with sunroof) plus the seat has an additional function, which will automatically make seat/mirror adjustments to maintain your position and line of sight if you adjust for example the seat height or recline whilst driving but this can be switched off. The ride on the standard 21" alloys and Porsche PASM style adaptive dampers is very comfortable when you consider how well this thing handles but it is firm. The FX sits on the 370Z/GTR platform with wheels at each corner for minimum overhang and the engines sat front midship, so low and behind the front axle for excellent balance, and a low centre of gravity. The AWD is 100% RWD biased except for when moving off from a standstill when the front receives some drive up until around 18 mph to aid initial traction. In normal driving this is 100% RWD with electronic apportioning of drive rear to front when required. The rear will step out, although it's very controlled and fun. Understeer is a dirty word for the FX. Infiniti even throws in electronic rear wheel steering as standard on the S and S Premium, which you feel working when pressing on and yet the Cayenne/Q7/Bentayga only received this optional extra with the recently launched models. The FX was launched in 2009!! The 3.0D might not be competitive with the latest diesel engines but it was very competitive when launched in 2010, so do compare it with similar engines of the same generation. 550nn of torque from around 1700 rpm makes for genuinely rapid real world progress plus it works very well with the smooth 7 speed transmission and its magnesium/leather steering wheel paddles. If you like to drive and you like the looks, then you can't go wrong with this fantastic car. The fact that you might not see another one for weeks or month's just adds to the appeal, along with the fantastic driving dynamics, build quality and unbelievable specification. I hope my ownership experience might help someone out there make a great decision.

Autogefühl hello Thomas and thank you for the detailed review. I know it has been many years since you drove this car however I was wondering if you could help. The seats look very comfortable and the spec says they are "bucket" seats. I am tall like you and I prefer have the rear of the seat low and front high like my old 08 Golf GTI. I live in Australia and unfortunately the German SUVs are very expensive here but the Infiniti did not sell well and they are being sold at a considerable discount.

Just bought this infinity Qx 70 diesel after seeing this review. had a porsche for many years and decided after seeing this review to have a test drive. Brilliant. had taken a Range rover. Mercedes. BMW x6 Audi Q7. what a difference .This suv drives like a sports car. but handles the snow season in the alps just as well. rare sight on the roads in Britain unlike range rover or bmw this Suv really does stand out.

Nissan has been selling Infinitis in Canada for over 25 years now. It's definitely a good bang for your buck. My first car was an Infiniti G35 from 2003. It had 57000km on it when I bought it. I drove it for 8 years and sold it with 243000 km on it and it was still going strong. I have a BMW 335 now, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a QX70 because of its unique design.

The pricing is good, but the consumption of the 3.7 petrol engine is scaring me a bit. I presume that the Company car monthly leasing will cost quite a lot due to that. The diesel.. well, let's say that the competitors get out more from their corresponding 3.0's.

Hi Thomas. Nice review as always though I think with this vehicle you didn't do as much driving, as in around town, on highway at speed etc. And as this is an SUV (sort of), you should really have checked how it performed offroad. I am myself now in the market thinking about getting a crossover/SUV moving on from a 3 series due to family requirements. It would also have been nice to show a little more about how much luggage can be fitted. Will appreciate if you do have some more information about these aspects.

The main factor isn't design or interior materials ... It's Japanese reliability. Japanese cars always score much higher in reliability surveys than any European cars. BMW, VW, Audi, etc have a very poor record for reliability.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 9 лет назад
gdwfs Thanks for the feedback. I am not exactly sure where this is deriving from, I heard that quite some time especially from American people. There are several institutes rating the cars, e.g. from inspections of older cars. If you take the results of one of the biggest institutes for car testing and inspection in Germany, the Dekra, the German cars lead most of the car categories for durabilty. E.g. in the SUV class, the Mercedes GLK won. They are looking at 0-50.000 km, 50.000-100.000 km and 100.000 - 150.000 km and then check how much failures a car got. Looking at JD Power USA, they often come to different conclusions. The Chevrolet Malibu gets a high rating there, whereas the Cruze (as it was sold in Germany under that name) only got an average rating at Dekra. The question is: Which organisation to trust? And how come the cars from the respective country of the rating organisation often win? ;-)

+Autogefühl Americans have more buying experience with cars, cars are essentials, with almost no protectionism compare to EU. Not saying the German Auto Industry will wholly disappears without protectionism, all I am saying it will get whole a lot more competitive like America, without protectionism. The result, cars sold EU are generally less advanced, reliable than car sold in American on the same price range. Compare Fiat to GM, consider a Civic Type R for whopping 40,000 Pound in Ireland, lol. Same for other industries: smart phone, software, search engine, sorry to rub it in. German have very great ethics, even better than the Japanese, hands down on that (which is why people are willing to pay a little more for the reputation, justifiably), but in term of quality and technology, Japan has upper hand. Without Protectionism, EU will be more like US, and you will begin to see what we see. Merkel is right on that. By the way, US has many more flaws (its infamous violence and Gun culture).

I am a Chinese and lives in New York now. I am thinking about buying this car. I love German cars, which are luxury cars to most of ppl I know . I went to test drive the 2015 Infiniti QX 70 last week. The two big bumps on the front hood makes me feel uncomfortable. I keep staring at them when I was driving, I don't know why , maybe I have been driving a small sedan for so long. Maybe that's just me, cause I am short 5'2"", and the bumps are blocking my views. The main reason why many ppl in my city ( I am talking about the lower and middle classes ppl, not the rich ones) choose Japanese cars is they cost less to repair than a German one. I like how you talk slowly and in a way that I can understand. I am not a native english speaker. Thanks

There's recently been a reliability survey published in the UK. Note, not American, German or Japanese ... a "neutral" country. It can be considered impartial. It doesn't make good reading for German automobiles. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-32332210

Lots of Infiniti FX here in the SF Bay Area...It's a fine car, but BMW X5 it most certainly isn't. Speaking of, the gas engines from the Infiniti are nowhere as refined as the ones found in the German competition. Infiniti/Nissan have an old gas V6 architecture and all their attempts to modernize it can only do so much. Funny that more than one person in the comment has made the comment that they'd rather have the VW Touareg...because here in the states, nobody ever considers the Touareg (very small sales), much less would be willing to cross shop it with the Infiniti FX. Credit that to Americans who believe VW is far from a premium brand, much less a luxury one!

Maybe you should stick to reviewing german cars.QX70 has best steering feel in its class. Infiniti qx70 is lot more fun to drive than Porsche cayenne. Cayenne is heavier and maintenance cost is nightmare. You should learn how to review cars no wonder you dont have many subscribers.

You were comparing qx70 specifically with porshe(cayenne). Here is the comparison. Cayenne :curb weight 4475lbs, 300hp, 0-60 in 7.1 sec, top speed 142mph, turning radius 19.52 ft. QX70 : Curb weight 4300, 325hp, 0-60 in 6.1, top speed 155mph. Turning radius 18.35ft(smaller radius than honda civic). I own both cayenne and qx70. I can tell you QX beats Porsche in every aspect. Cayenne feels top heavy, slower, unreliable. You must be joking when you said Porsche has better steering feel right? Porsche uses electric power steering which has no road feedback and feels like videogame steering wheel. Any driving enthusiastic would knkow electric steering has worst "steering feel" and feedback

Being an american car, i would worry about the relability

Americans have more buying experience with cars, cars are essentials, with almost no protectionism compare to EU. German have very great ethics, even better than the Japanese, hands down on that(which is why people are willing to pay a little more for the reputation, justifiably), but in term of quality and technology, Japan has upper hand. Without Protectionism, EU will be more like US, and you will begin to see what we see. Merkel is right on that. By the way, US has many more flaws (its infamous violence and Gun culture).
