The emblem on this Maserati hasn’t changed in nearly a century. It was designed by Mario Maserati in 1920, one of six Maserati brothers, who got his idea from the ‘Fountain of Neptune’ in Bologna, the family’s home town.
Maserati is a brand steeped in racing history, with celebrated wins in the Targa Floria, Sebring and at the Nurburgring. It’s also the only Italian car manufacturer to have claimed back-to-back wins at the famed Indianapolis 500, in 1939 and 1940.
These days, Maserati is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the same group that also owns Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, and thankfully it’s still making great looking cars - like this, the GranTurismo MC Sportline.
And best of all, they still sound amazing!
The ‘MC’ stands for Maserati Corse - the division that runs Maserati’s racing activities, and of course borrowed from the hard-core MC Stradale version of the GranTurismo.
With a body that looks this good, its not like it needs any further enhancements, except for a nip and tuck, here and there.
The blacked-out 20-inch wheels add a touch of menace, as do these beautifully integrated heat extraction vents, sculptured into the aluminium bonnet. The Ferrari-derived naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8 is mated to a six-speed auto, and as you can imagine, it’s quick.
Off the line, it can hit 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, and top speed is 298 with the standard auto, or 300 with the robotized manual option.
