All vehicles drive nice when they are new, my question is; which van has the best warranty, least amount of recalls and repairs. Remember its a work van, I’d sacrifice some comfort for reliability and cargo space

From experience the one with the worst warranty, worst dealership service and worst reliability is the Ford. My mother has one and it has been a headache and everytime she takes it to the dealership it stays there for weeks or even months for the most ridiculous reasons. Never will buy a Ford again.

All I know is that the Ram Promaster City has 9 cubic feet more cargo space than the Nissan NV200. I traded my NV200 work van to the Ram due to the extra space. But, to me, the Ram has much more power (doesn't have a CVT transmission) and is more comfortable.

I think I like the Promaster City the best. I like the 2-seater SLT version with alloy wheels and body color bumpers. You can also get swing-out side and rear glass on the Ram, nice if you don't want to use A/C all the time, or if you want to camp in it on the weekends. The Nissan NV200 is also a rebadged 2016 Chevy City Express. Lots of horror stories about the previous Nissan's CVT transmissions. I believe CVT's have a higher failure rate then automatics. Their supposed to be cheaper to built but still cost $5k to replace.

How can this be taken seriously? You say you prefer spending time in the Dodge because of the feel? The dodge had an insulated interior with seating and likely carpet in the rear. The last "why don't we have an American van" comment was pretty lame. I drove a bunch of weird Euro vans in Germany then came back to the US- what a come down the Econoline was to drive after VW Tansporter and Mercedes Sprinter. Americans are good at designing big trucks but not everyone in America lives in Texas or Detroit. Some of us (aka most people on the Eastern Seaboard) live in cities/towns where parking and road width are somewhat comparable to Europe.

OMG! What a beauty that older Dodge is! In black that hides the black trim on the Ram it will look better. But once again you failed to mention the best advantage of the Ram, that equals the higher load rating, that is the fully independent suspension! Where as the two others have rear beam axels! If I was to buy one of these? I would buy the higher trim level Ram, in silver that looks great, plus can be spec out with the UCONNECT System with telematics! I’ve had the pleasure of testing all the vans on the American mkt. I must say the best all around small sized van is the Ram. As far as full size goes, that would also go to the Ram. However if you do not need to stand up with a high roof, the oldest designed standby, the full sized Chevy Express has been built for many years and has proven to be very dependable! The newest had the very good baby DuraMax diesel available! With a great mileage history! Or a powerful 6.0 gas V8 with a high tow rating. Plus an aftermarket 4x4AWD option.

I own the Ford and it's a great van that does exactly what I need for my job. He didn't mention that the Ford has a Long Wheel base model that makes it the biggest capacity van in the class by quite a bit, or that you can get it with the ecoboost engine and then it has pretty much the same hp as the Ram. The sliding doors also lock. The ford is in it's second generation and they fixed every problem from the older transit. After test driving, and doing all the research, the other 2 vans were not even close. Just my opinion.

Wow 24-29 mpg, wtf??? Ounce again we are not getting these vehicles with Diesel engines in the USA. The Ford comes with a 1.6 L diesel that gets 61 mpg in England. It sure would be nice to have the choices of cars and car engines like they have in Europe but the land of the free continues to be the land of stupidity when it comes to cars and trucks .
@cmanlovespancakes
@cmanlovespancakes 9 лет назад
They use different metrics in Europe to judge MPG. That 61 MPG is probably closer to 40 MPG with the EPA, but still way more than the stated 25 MPG. But diesel vehicles in America are much more expensive to buy because of the need for costly emission systems that also reduce the cars reliability. Commercial customers want a low purchase price and and low maintenance costs.

@RetroCaptain
@RetroCaptain 9 лет назад
Differences in economy levels aside, the bevvy of EXTRA OPTIONS that Europe gets on the Ford Connect Van makes the N.A Version look like a Cookie Tin with Wheels. Perhaps it is much more expensive there. To Me, the Connect seems expensive. btw Our System of Measures was Imperial also! Basically it's 5L is Imperial Gallon. We were only Metric until "free (frikken expensive if you ask Me) trade" was signed. Now, we pay for S.I. Metric Litres & get handed U.S. Quarts! (a slightly smaller amount) A rip off. The Politicians & the big Corporations are no doubt happy with the situation.

All of these vans have potential issues. Lots of problems and complaints regarding the Nissan CVTs. Plenty of drive axle/trans seal leak complaints on the Transit Connects. The 9 speed auto in the Pro C is a wild card, FCA has had a lot of issues with it, albeit mainly in 2014-15. None of these three vans are a solid no brainer pick from a reliability standpoint...all have had some glitches. You can thank ever increasing government fuel economy regulations. These force manufacturers to try less proven technologies in an attempt to raise MPG. The consumer ends up being the beta tester. Similar now to the 1970's in a way.

The Nissan NV IMO is junk. Their full size van better competes in its class. I think Ford has the best overall small van. The 6sp is great, and it also makes available the 1.6 ecoboost. The Ford is also available with dual sliding doors, and you get rear swing doors, or liftgate options. The Ram is great but the 9 speed has proved troublesome. The 2.4 is tried and true, and it makes the most use of space. Chryco has always been good about that. All the way back to their Ram unibody Vans

Nissan was cheap with a great warranty but felt like it was ready to fall apart. Ford was nice like the ram but I heard they go through tires every season. Even though I originally wasn't a Ram fan... I'm happy I went Ram, I get better mileage than they predicted which is the biggest benefit. Has good pick up too (Ford did too)

I've worked out of Chevy Astro vans all my life and can't find something new to replace it. Why does the market jump from these compact under powered matchbox vans (like the ones in this video) to the bulky 3/4+ ton gas guzzling full size vans? Is a 6 cylinder short wheelbase 1/2 ton mid size cargo van too much to ask for?

the feds killed the lighter vans. they put the vans between 5500 and 8499 gvw van into the cars cafe gas mileage totals so the makers elimited every full size vans under 8500 gvw so if you need room but not a heavy load truck forcing 1/3 of van buyers to buy heaver trucks, which gets lower mileage, costs more to run tag and tolls. this was under obama's years supposably to increase mileage but in fact caused more fuel to burn

The problem is they are not made for the driver who sits in it all day. The Dodge outside mirror control is to far to reach to adjust the mirror while sitting in the seat. They should all have rear cameras and built for driver comfort besides the hauling specs. All the vans look bad with the small wheels and tires.
@howardkerr8174
@howardkerr8174 6 лет назад
One of the drawbacks, though it wasn't directly alluded to in the review, is that wider wheels/tires would make the bad turning circles of these vehicles even worse. Go to the aftermarket though, each of these vans has a selection of wheels available for it, the Dodge has an odd bolt pattern so it has the fewest optional wheels. The Ford, being basically a Focus with a different body, has the best selection.

The ProMaster City should ride a bit better since it has coil springs out back instead of leafs. Other than that I suppose they all haul stuff. The extended Ford and the Ram are about the same size and price so there isn't much to sway one way or the other there.

Driver feel in the Promaster City is superior. It also has great pickup and response compared to Ford and Nissan. In Florida, the speedometer can not be seen due to the massive amount of sunlight that comes in. The Amber lighting is okay for night but crappy for daylight.

@@suntzu1370 , And you obviously don't know anything about me or you wouldn't make such an idiotic statement. I was probably driving a stick before you were born. The point is, for me, the fun and novelty of driving a manual transmission ended long ago. Now it would be just a pain to have to be pushing a clutch pedal and shifting gears all the time. I live in an urban area with a lot of traffic and stop and start driving. If you want to drive a manual transmission, fine. More power to ya. But unless I'm going to drive a Ferrari or a Porsche, I'll take the automatic.

I used to drive a Transit Connect about 350 miles on one of my work days then just around town other days. My only complaint is my company didn't let us have cruise control, it is an addon for the cargo vans, and the handle on the driver side broke. There. I just did a better review than you did and I didn't have a horribly over used whistling song.

Got one. Alot of leak problems. Anywhere there is rubber sealing it seems like they used thin rubber for their seals. Vacuum, axle, engine mount, suspension parts have blown or leaking seals. Body is very strong well built. Engineering seems top notch except for fighter jet style cockpit. Seems designed for small people. Seats are easily removed. Too bad the floor isn't flatter. Excellent reliability though far off the Toyota mark. Seems like they used Mitsubishi parts suppliers rather than Toyota Honda suppliers.

Ram van for comfort, Nissan Van for nimbleness and lowest cost, Ford for all-around competence. All depends on what features you value more! The Nissan lack of true highway gearing due to simplistic CVT is a notable detriment, imo...

I do some comments on reliability in this thread; curious if there's any quantifiable data.

Do your research on the web. I was going to buy a Rogue but found out that almost all of them (Nissan) have faulty transmissions. There are hundreds of blogs with people complaining about their CVT transmissions on the Rouge. "Caveat emptor"

We do still have big useless american vans. The express and the econoline, which havent changed since they came out decades ago and use 4 gears and have v8 engines that only make 200hp. About time we finally get something useful. Not to mention the ram gets 30 mpg while econoline struggles to get 15 mpg. Body on frame is not light or efficient anymore. These so-called "pee-shooters" actually have as much space as an express or and econoline and actually have more height on the interior because they dont have a freaking steel chassis under the floor. These little things make total sense.
@theaveragejoestinkeringand4407
I went from a Chevy express 2500 to a ford transit connect and it’s a handy little vehicle if you’re delivering pillows or Styrofoam lol. Once you get it loaded with tools and other things it really had a hard time staying at 70 mph on the interstate without the engine screaming all the time and drinking gas. Luckily the company I work for let me pass it on to somebody else and I moved back into my 05 express was 260,000 miles on it. It rides better it has twice the power it’s quieter and it gets about 17 miles per gallon on the highway that’s not too bad with the 4.8 L V8. Hopefully I can try the little Ram next and see how it does. I’ve heard rumors we may be getting some. we’ll see.
