We bought on fathers day this year and i must say its a badass machine for the money, we owned a rhino and beat it to death and the thing kept coming back for more. And in all actuality that was the main reason we stuck with yamaha. In the woods we hang just fine with every other sxs out there and at the end of the day we keep our wrenches under the seat. I was at first against it but now i just got the plow for it and i couldn't be happier in what yamaha has done. I hope anyone out there gives this machine a second look, we did, and we love it...

exactly why i bought one. at the end of the day I have seen can am, arctic cat, Polaris, and many other brands and the Yamaha always comes back for more. Polaris are nice as well but always limited slip 4X4 from can am sucks and arctic break down way to often. Polaris is a new buy only. they are so beaten up most of the time. that they aren't worth what people ask.

Excellent, accurate review. I own an R-Spec and can attest that it is more than capable in trail conditions. It can't compete with RZRs in the dunes but that's what the YXZ is for. For its intended purpose, it is a winner.

Love your guys show, and videos here on You Tube. Always was and always will be a big Yamaha fan. I have a 2013 Yamaha Rhino now, mainly use it for hunting, working, and slow trail riding, love it.

I own a Yamaha Viking with almost 1000 miles on it and I have not had a single problem with it. I Live in the high desert of so. California very near mountains and it has gone everywhere I have desired to go. I am an old guy (68) so 50 MPH is plenty fast but I can sure appreciate those who want to scoot around quicker and I can't for the life of me see why Yamaha has not jumped on the fast lane yet with their SXS's.

How about a Wolverine - Teryx - Commander - Pioneer - General Comparison Video. I'd be glad to offer mine up for testing purposes.

I looked at all the major brands before purchase, read all the stats. Watched so many videos my eyes x. In the end , for me , I don't need to travel any faster then what this delivers. I use it for hunting and trail riding with my wife. This can do all that I need it to do and with no excuses. Owned a Polaris , 1500 miles and HAD to fix things that should have not needed attention at that low mileage. I don't expect any brand to never need repair , but , wheel bearings , ball joints, controller arm bushings, and the list goes on and on. Not at 1500 miles. Every time I rode , I was working just so I could ride again. I love the R Spec. Best thing I have done in a long while. Go YAMAHA!

I love dirt trax, and it's one of the better atv/utv shows around. however, I think they missed the mark on this review. 1/3 of the video is the yamaha promo, 1/3 it's sitting still, and 1/3 power sliding. reality is if I didn't own one I might not give it much out a second look, at the same time I know it's more capable than the video suggest.. a lot more so. I'd have love to seen a comparison vs a rzr or commander in a tight trail. jump the thing it has piggy back socks.. you jumped a John deer..lol I it just seems to not demonstrate how good it actually is.. and of course the yzx over shadows everything today.

They talk about how awesome the long wheel base is but wouldnt that make it hard to maneuver on tight trails and bottom out over rocks/hill crests more than the commander?

50 mph is only 80 km/h. Shame, I'm looking to trade in my Sportsman 850 for a side by side. This won't be it for that reason alone.

I'm getting ready to get a new utv and currently deciding between the wolverine r spec Eps and a left over 2015 can am commander 800xt. I need something that is durable, reliable, and has reasonable maintenance intervals. I ride fairly hard, deal with some steep long hills and take trips upto 4 days hence no pure sports. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
@dirttraxtv
@dirttraxtv 8 лет назад
The 800 Rotax is definitely more powerful than the 708cc single in the Yamaha, but the Wolverine is very capable and very reliable. Take resale into consideration and also recommend buying from the dealer you trust the most.

but i can go well over 50mph in a quad shame shame deal killer for me ill guess ill wait it out for next year or 2 yxz 1000 a bit snug for my big frame 6'3
@JesseLJohnson
@JesseLJohnson 8 лет назад
They are all going to be snug. I have a Can Am Commander 1000 XT and it is by far the most comfortable of any SXS I have ever been in. If you want it more as pure sport then there is the Maverick models that are all pretty awesome. I really like Polaris too really Polaris is king of the SXS but Can Am is right on top too only Yamaha I would consider is the new YXZ 1000. I do like the new Honda Pioneer 1000 5 seater too. Really nice that you can seat 5 if you want by flipping the seats up in the bed and be able to get through the woods. All the other 4 seaters I would like to have are just not that good for getting around the 2 seat Commander I have is hard enough if I have to turn around and other maneuvers out in the woods can't imagine how much worse it would be adding a couple feet. The Kawasaki Teryx4 isn't bad but they have no dump bed which I like and what little box there is be lucky to fit much more then a cooler in it but if you are only going to trail ride and nothing else really with it then its fine. I really like the Commander because you can still work with it but its 85HP probably goes around 80 mph never had mine over 60 and then there is the awesome new Polaris General but that came out just a little after I got mine or I probably would have got the General.

What the hell is so important about tilt steering on an off road vehicle? I had A rhino for 7 years and it never had tilt steering and it never mattered one bit

what is the difference between the wolverine and the r speck
@dirttraxtv
@dirttraxtv 8 лет назад
+mark walker R-Spec is Race spec. The sxs is R-SPEC. The Original Wolverine was an ATV. Did that answer your question? Not sure if that's what you meant.

+monstermini That's pretty reasonable for what you are getting, considering you can spend 32 000 CAD on a RZR 1000. I'm stoked on the sequential, I swore I would never spend that kind of coin on a performance SxS without at least a 4 speed sequential. This thing would be an absolute riot on logging roads around my home.

Taller doors and a v-twin, I'd be interested. Until then yamaha is not even on the competitive radar against Can-am, Polaris, and even Arctic Cat... A shame really
@XxBigDAWG22xX
@XxBigDAWG22xX 8 лет назад
I wouldn't compare arctic cat. or the can am. can am always has limited slip, the wolverines different lock will take you more places. and the arctic cats have more mechanical issues than any other brand of side by side of you main brands from my experience. I have seen many people with different brands seen them rode hard and respectable. the can am and arctic just don't hold their own for the people I know with them. they all sold and went Polaris. the wolverine isn't as much power but it's still more than enough for most people. it's a rec vehicle for trails, hunting, and work use.
