Thanks for this video. It's the only one of its kind so far. I just finished this project on my 2017 rx350 with 80k miles. My advice to others is make sure you are mechanically good and in good shape if you attempt this. There are some scenes where things are already done and cut out that may not be easy for you to figure out. Also you will have your entire body on the engine when you are working on the back spark plugs. Its very tight back there and you're mostly doing everything by feel and in an awkward position. pay a few more bucks to order the throttle body gasket and manifold gasket so you can change it with this job. when you have the manifold out of the way place a towel over the exposed headers so u dont accidentally drop anything in there. good luck

I agree with everything you said and would like to add, take pictures of all the hose routings and locations to reference when you put everything back together.

I just watched your video and wanted to thank you for your time and expertise. My wife’s 2019 RX350 got a minor repair done by the dealership and they told me the need for this service. The quote was $1000 for the 60K spark plug replacement. I was surprised, that I admit. So I went to RU-vid to see what the service entailed. It is doable I can see. I’m going to watch it a few more times for some familiarity.

Would this procedure work on 2009 RX 350? I'm surprised you didn't remove the top pieces like windshield wiper and it motor along with the drain pan. Thx

Save yourself a possible engine removal or replacement by putting a rag over the intake holes. It’s probably not a frequent issue but a small bolt it nut falling in there is not worth the risk. On all the videos out now for changing the plugs on these GR2- 3.5 FKS engines I would suggest grabbing a can of Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner and a can of Throttlebody Cleaner and carefully cleaning those since everything is apart. Thanks for the explaination of how to remove the connector on the MAF sensor as I had no luck taking mine off and would hate to pay a Toyota Tech to do it if it needed to be replaced. There’s some good videos on how to clean both the TB and the MAF sensor. It’s not rocket science but on the a throttle body in particular there are a few things you need to know to avoid damaging it. I also appreciate that you are the first of about 6 different videos that clearly showed the spark plug part number. I have the Toyota part number for mine in the owners manual but I’m not paying $33 each for plugs at Toyota when I can get the identical regular Denso plug for $22, I’ll also be replacing the gasket on the intake and the throttle body because my engine is 7 years old. 21:02

I typically do plugs on these at about 120k just fyi. Typically with the triple platinum or iridium plugs you can go pretty long.

They looked decent when i removed them, maybe I could have just re gapped them.... but also noticed a difference after the new plugs.

The pros remove the upper and lower cowling. They also immediately cover the engine intake holes. If you drop something in there and it goes into the engine you will be looking at thousands in repair. To see how this job should be professionally done, check out how AMD does it on the Car Care Nut channel.

Yup The Car Care Nut video on this engine is really good and he includes the torque numbers as well as showing a few “ shortcuts “ that even the Toyota manual doesn’t show. Also unlike man6 of his videos he got this one done in under 19 minutes. This video here is good because he is the only one of the half dizen I’ve watched who CLEARLY shows the Denso spark plug number. AMD the Car Care Nut is so good that he doesn’t work for Toyota anymore because he has so many followers he started his own shop specializing in Toyotas and Lexus’ while still throwing out videos on maintenance.

My cousin is a mechanic and he told me when they replace spark plugs at 60k, the spark plugs are in very decent shape. So I'm guessing you can extend this service maybe 80k-90k. But yeah lexus recommends this service at 60k.
@MrNorthstar50

Thank you for posting this video. There's something I don't understand about the newer Lexus spark plugs. In my 2013 Rx350 the Iridium plugs last for 120k miles. Now I have a 2022 RX 450hand there only good for around 60k or so. how come they don't last as long as the older ones? I'm asummikng that you're a Master Tech.

My guess would be pushing the cam timing much further, and running the engine even leaner. Just speculations tho, don't know that 100% tho. Yes I was Master Lexus certified

Thanks for your awesome video however, after replacing my sparkplugs three error messages came on, "check engine reduced engine power", "traction control turned off", and AWD system malfunction 2WD mode engaged", what would be the cause of this? I rechecked all the connectors, took everything off again and reconnected it....
