best two swimmers in HUMAN history....i love seeing how all these kids from different countries all come HERE to the USA to learn how to swim and become olympic gods then they rep their native country... :) so cool PHELPS and LOCHTE are still untouchable :)
+Nícholas Carballo Yep, you can notice that he is not doing any flutter-kick at the last 5 meters. Just look at how the splashes generated by 6-beat-kick disappear at the last 5 meters. And, he also mentioned it by himself in a interview.
+Hugo Zawada It would be legal in any freestyle event but in an IM race? I don't know. Recently, FINA has officially announced that Ryan Lochte's new underwater kicking on his back in a freestyle leg in an IM race will no longer be allowed in the future (which is a decision I personally do not agree with). FINA's rationale is that backstroke is defined by a swimmer traveling lying on his or her back. So if FINA defines kicking with both legs as a butterfly stroke, then chances are that those MP's finish can be considered illegal and ruled out in any future IM races.
can't wait till Phelps shuts the naysayers up, about age and his past drug (marijuana, wow) use. he looks even better physically then last Olympics. and even though I know he will have to shave it. but wish he would keep the beard
Do Americans still love him? I guess so from the comments. I'm from Europe and just wagly no about professional swimming, all I remember is he was an exeptionel swimmer some years ago and wondered how his career developed since then. Now I read some wikipedia and it says he was banned like 3 times due to alcohol while driving and a water pipe?! Seems like he has some real life struggles which doesn't really fit into the image of the perfect sport. Personally I'd say he's just a human being like anyone of us, it's always amusing to see the ambiguity of American moralism, pointing with the moral finger immediately at a person, while a vast majority of the population still loves him. ;)
This meet doesn't matter to him compared to trials or Olympics, just to see where he is in terms of the things Phelps mentioned in the video. Shaving a beard won't improve your technique, but when it matters like the Olympics, of course he'll shave because he wants to go faster.
+Aakos94 I don't think so. Lochte was talking about why he does the 400 IM a while back and he said that he likes a challenge. He enjoys challenging himself and I think he'll swim this event. Maybe even the same as he did in 2012. I think he still might be able to get a medal; not necessarily gold, but a medal.
ch1do121 I guess if he really wants to make it hard on himself... He will certainly accomplish that. The backstroke is the toughest 200 and that double must be so brutal.
Schmitt Gábor I guess technically that is my opinion, but the 200 backstroke is absolutely killer on the legs. Also, it is right before the 200 IM during the olympics, which can really hurt his back half.
Aakos94 Yeah, I was about to say... Backstroke is pretty hard but nowhere near 200 fly. 200 fly is absolutely brutal on your entire body; felt worst after swimming 200 fly than the 400 IM.
Swiming is a sissy sport, are they gonna start to give medals for 25,20,15 and 10 mts matches aswell? It is just dumb to give away such a big amount of medals to a single weak sport while other guys are suffering to get just a single medal going trhu real hell, like weight lifitng where the COI decided to cut to a single medal per wight class. I guess they're still butthurted that they couldn't cut wrestling (one of the real olympic sports) from these days gayfull olympics
