I'm in the expediting business where 80K miles are driven per year. From what I'm reading on expeditersonline truck forum is that these transit vans are having transmission problems at 140K miles, that once start, the problem is a chronic problem. The issue is the transmission fluid is picking up particles and even if the fluid is changed, it doesn't solve the problem. Also from what I'm reading, Ford modified the US version vs the European model. I was thinking of buying a Transit until started hearing about these problems from a bunch of owners. Remember, a Ford dealership wants to sell vans, and they will probably deny any issues these Transits have. The Sprinters have many issues also with glow plugs and other issues. If Ford would have stuck to the reliable E-series, the customer would have been better served. Now I'm looking into Nissan vans. Update: Just talked to an owner who has owned this model for 3 years. He's spent $12,000 in repairs that were out of warranty and is looking for a lawyer. While in warranty Ford had to replace the driveshaft and the rear. This the worst van Ford has ever made.
BIG JOE 245 just google expeditersomline and it will come right up. You can go to the general truck forum. You don't have to log in, unless you want to post questions or give answers. I talked to a fellow driver, and at 150K he's spent $12000 in non scheduled maintenance. The driveshaft and rear failed, the tires last only half as long as the the ford econoline tires. He bought the Transit the first year they came. I also sent Ford an email to the CEO and the Ford transit manager emailed me back. In my email I explained as a long time Econoline customer I would not be buying a Transit. Her response was to check out the heavier duty trucks like have a box like the Spartan. I believe she was aware of all the problems Transits are having.
interstategar im in the same problem. Ram had issues with 80k miles My friend has transit also had transmission issues at 120k miles. Sprinter dont even go near it. Breaksdown like evrey month and never elss than 1000$ breakdown. I ended up just getting another 2013 E350 with high roof (wheelchair previously) and now i ran 2 of them withcno problems. Minor breakdowns like spark plugs cost 200-300$ and its back and running. Really upsetting. Btw nissan is even worse with electeical problems
Will this haul 400 yards of carpet and padding weighing about 8k lb and 4 people? Used to get it done with my e350 no problem but even that 5.4 v8 could barely do inclines on the highway, what's a 5cyl going to do?
Even though this is a European van it would be illegal to sell this in Europe as there is no steel bulk head behind the front seats. Plus it needs to be ply lined as the panels dent really easily.
Hi Ryan thanks for that; i am new in the world of vans; do you have a review of a Van like this one but with a lower roof? Also is this category of vans able to carry cargo plus people behind? pitty that you are not in Europe to contact you for a purchase like that
Keep checking back or subscribe - I try to do a few new product reviews a month, depending on what I have time for - I will try to do one on the low roof transit soon!
So... you didn't actually drive it then. I'll be having a new Transit in about a month or so, it was ordered on Jan 29th. Too bad we don't get the automatic transmission over here and only two engine choices, both 2.2 liter diesels with 125 or 155hp. Latter one for me.
Windows can definitely be added to the sides and the back! Towing Capacity would be 5200lbs-6600lbs with the naturally aspirated 3.7L V6, depending how it is equipped. With the 3.5L ecoboost it would be 5100lbs-7100lbs, with the 3.2L 5 cylinder diesel it is 4200lbs-7500lbs. If you'd like a hand customizing a transit, drop me a line at ryan@keywestford.com or call me at 778-984-7431.
The tire jack and wrench is located beneath the passenger seat, the access point is inside the step. The spare tire is located underneath the vehicle. Watch this video to get a better idea: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RoM4DgKWEwg.html
interstategar mine has 190k Never had a single issue All i changed was tires. Brakes. Spark plug. Timing belt. And couple other less than 100 bucks items He probably did something stupid not even sure what at only 4000 miles Only better van (imo) is the ram 2002 That van was insane. I got it up to 350k miles without any serious fixing that would cost over 200$
