Great video. Very informative. Don't stress on running long. I'm glad you didn't cut it short. Lots of great info and mods. Make a vid on those mud flaps. Excellent idea. I think you just sealed the deal on a Yam Kodiak 700 Camo SE for me. The wife will have to hold on till I can afford a Grizz in the future. TY for your learned experience.

Awesome Review. I had the same issues. Off Camber down hill was Sketchy. Added the 1 inch Wheel spacers made it 100% better. I still don't like how the bike looses so much ground clearance with weight on the back rack. You go from 11inches to 6 inches right fast. Even with the shocks set on full.

You make excellent videos! I'm looking to purchase one of these in the spring. For primarily 50 inch trails that are generally technical and rarely permit speeds more than 30mph, is one noticeably better than the other?
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 7 лет назад
Hey, getbigordie423.. Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy our videos. Both bikes are very similar same engine and drive train. I think the Grizzly has a little more suspension travel with the longer arms but both bikes ride really well so ether one should work fine. The Kodiak feels a little smaller but it just body work the fenders don't stick out as far and they set lower. The Grizzly does feel like it has more power especially at lower speed. It's because of the clutch weights on the grizzly the engine is always running at a higher RPM which in return gives you more power. Hope the info helps ya! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Yup i pulled on a tree(It took 5 of us) removing it from the trail and the part i was pulling on broke and i flew backwards into another Downed tree landed on a short branch right to ribs. Ended my riding way to early. From that point on i was camp bound. Took forever to heal.

I really appreciate your videos, very informative and helpful. I'm new to atv trail riding and I was wondering if most of the trail systems you feature have rating on the degree of difficulty. My wife is a flat land type person and desires easier trails. We live in Kansas where things are straight and mostly flat. I was wondering how to find out what type a trail is before getting too deep for our level of riding experience. Also, videos on atv maintenance are very helpful. I'd also be interested to know what microphone system you use on your videos. The sound is excellent even in windy conditions. Thanks!

Hi Kevin.. We also live in Kansas, about 30 miles west of Kansas City. The intercom system we use. I’ve done a video on them check it out should give you all the information about the system. As far as finding out about trail systems before you go to them. Check out Riderplanet.com and then you pick the state you want to ride. They have information on most trail systems in each state. Hope that helps you guys! Thanks for watching appreciate the comment!

Great review! Enjoy watching your videos! How’s the fuel mileage on the kodiak on long rides? I know Yamaha claimed that the relaxed clutch weight tuning of the kodiak’s was supposed to yield quieter noise and possibly better fuel economy by lower rpm’s. That’s cool you built your own muffler for the grizzly, it has a good throaty sound, really one of the best sounding exhausts I’ve heard on a grizzly honestly imo. How did you run it without a tuner/ fuel controller that these muffler companies claim you must buy in order to run their mufflers? I’ve always thought that was just them getting you really to spend more money in addition to the muffler. Yours seems to run just fine without a tuner. I’ve always owned Honda atvs and am thinking about adding a new atv to the stable in the future. Been giving Yamaha a close look lately, particularly the kodiak 700 se. I’m trying to decide whether to get the new Rubicon DCT 520 or the kodiak 700se. Really right now the Rubicon 520 is the only Honda utility atv I would consider buying as it has the most features out of all the current Honda atvs they make. I personally like the styling of the kodiak over the rubicon, but I know looks aren’t everything.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 4 года назад
Palomino488 . Thank you glad you enjoy our videos! I’ll do my best to answer all your questions. The fuel mileage on the Kodiak is pretty much the same as my machine. We’ve ridden about 85 to 90 miles in one day and used about 4 gallons of fuel both machines. I think that’s pretty good fuel mileage can’t complain. Yes the Kodiak has heavier clutch weights makes it up shift quicker so the engine is running at a lower RPM correct. I don’t think it helps the fuel mileage though, like I said it gets about the same mileage as my machine. which is running at a higher RPM with lighter clutch weights. Yeah as far as needing a tuner not sure why everyone says you need one when changing the exhaust system. Mine seems to run just fine with no fuel controller. I do run a quiet core in the pipe. That does give it a little more back pressure. Maybe that’s why it runs fine with no tuner?. Since you own Hondas you know they have good build quality. I do think that Yamaha build quality is not quite up to Honda but what are you gonna do. I think there are the next best thing. I also own a Honda and bought both of these Yamaha’s. I’ve been pretty happy with them I think they both got over 2000 miles on them now. Hope that helps you out and thanks for watching!!

I’ve never been brand specific. I’ve owned Honda Kawasaki Suzuki Yamaha and Polaris. When I start looking for a utility machine I looked at all four Japanese brands and ended up going with the Yamaha grizzly and Kodiak. I’ve been happy with the machines. I have 4000 miles on the grizzly and I think 3850 on the Kodiak now. Still have the original CVT belts The only thing I’ve done is put brake pads on them of course. The only thing that has actually gotten loose and worn out is the control arm bushings where the rear spindles bolt on. Thanks for checking out the video much appreciated!

Hey, Steve.. The bracket I use to mount the GPS unit actually came with the unit. It’s just a universal flat surface mount and I had a old set of hand guards that’s what I used for the clamp to the handlebars. Then bolted the amount that came with the GPS to the clamping bracket for the old hand guards then bolted it on. I hope that all made sense to you . I apologize if that was confusing. Hey ! Right on man, glad you like my videos ! I see we have a lot of the same subs, you aren't friends with that Quadingsous guy are you? hahaha jk he's hilarious. Yes there are many improvements over the 08, suspension is way better, power steering is amazing, seems to have more power but that could be clutching, (its still the 700 haha) but I hate that mine backfires on deceleration (they say using regular gas helps that so I'l try it) and the rear storage compartment is sort of a joke, its not the least bit dust/water proof haha Im going to try to put a foam gasket around it to keep the dirt out.... hi, any issues with these backfiring ir running hot? i want a kodiak 700 2017 but hesitant to buy because of the lean issue ive read about
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 6 лет назад
Hey, Dude backfiring issues well I'll try to give you my explanation or an opinion on that. Yes Yamaha's does have these bikes running very lean to meet emissions and to improve fuel economy. The Kodiak it does have an exhaust I would call flattering when you let off the gas and your slowing down sometimes it will give a slight popping or flattering. I would not call that a backfire at all. It has never actually backfired I think people are confused on that noise and they just simply call it a backfire to generalize it. So as far as that I see it as a none issue. Overheating nope neither bike overheats at all the cooling fan will come on after riding for a while for sure especially when riding at slower speed's. Then again I think folks just like to have something to complain about. Like cooling fans running. Come on they have to come on to Pull air across the radiator and keep it from overheating. Hope that helps ya and thanks for watching and, commenting much appreciated!!
@derekp9877
@derekp9877 4 года назад
That “backfiring” is simply the engine brake releasing pressure. Any bike with an engine brake will backfire.

How similar or different are these 2 quads? I think the 2015 Grizzly is my favorite and silver is my favorite color, but I would love to find a way to add a handlebar light pod to it. I remember you saying that you had to add spacers. I noticed Yamaha lists the same width for both. Could I make a 2016 more or less identical to the 2015 by changing clutch weights? Anything else I could do?

How are the rear brakes holding up on the Grizzly? Does the Kodiak run any hotter than the Grizzly?
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 4 года назад
James Snyder The rear brakes on the grizzly are still original. I did put front brake pads on at the beginning of this year. I probably put rears on beginning of next year. Oh yeah the machine has 2000 miles on it both of them do, I figure that’s pretty good for the rear brakes to last 2000 miles. I really don’t notice either machine running hot, I mean the radiator fans run from time to time but there are supposed to.

I watched some of your vids on mount Magazine here in Arkansas. I live 4 miles from the foot of the mountain on the south side. The wife and I were up there 2 days ago at the scenic look offs and the lodge. Went to the horse trail after watching you vids. We ride some, family has land in the mountains. Crazy, lived here all my life and have never rode my atv's on Magazine mountain. Planning on changing that soon after watching your vids. I have all honda's, have had them all my life, love the reliability and shaft and gear system. But I'd like to try something different and have been eyeing the yamaha grizzly. Sounds like you've had good luck out of yours. I always worry about the belt, but from all I've read and watched, the yamaha has by far the best belt system and seldom has to be changed. How is your belt history on this maching? Miles? Hours? any additional info? I think my next atv will be the yamaha grizzly. I'd like to try something different.

Hi jtarman70 .. Thank you so much for watching our videos and appreciate your comment as well! Yup crazy you haven’t ridden those trails I guess with living there you get used to it maybe doesn’t seem as interesting. We do most of our trail riding in Arkansas. Has so much beautiful country to see for sure, we love it!! I’ve done the same thing watch other folks videos and think it looks pretty cool. That’s how some of our trips get started. As far as our two quads haven’t had any issues haven’t had to do any repairs just maintenance and as far as the belt goes seems to be pretty bulletproof. The way Yamaha does it they don’t use the belt slipping as the clutch the belt stays tight all the time it actually has a wet clutch. You probably already know that if you’ve done research on them I assume. Had an air filter issue with the Kodiak seem to be a poor design letting dirt get past the filter. I’ve since reworked that and it seems to be working fine. I’m not really a Yamaha guy like you I have owned a Honda and still own my TRX 700xx. But it’s a sport quad so it was time to go with them 4 x 4 and an automatic for sure guess I’m getting lazy. LOL With all that being said I don’t have any regret buying these two Yamaha machines but do I think there are as refined as a Honda nope I do not. Honda just didn’t build a 4 x 4 that excited me if they would’ve, I would’ve bought one so I bought the next best thing. Thanks again for your comment greatly appreciated!!

Thanks so much for your reply, all this info will help me out when I go looking at atv's again. You are right, when you live right next to these places, you kind of take them for granted. I got a good laugh with what you said. We hardly ever go on Magazine mountain yet we will drag our atv's and hour and a half north to my mother in laws cabin and ride in the Ozark mountains and can't get enough, lol. Appreciate your honesty about the grizzly. I own 4 Honda's right now, 3 four wheeler's and the pioneer 500 sXs. So I would like to try something different and the grizzly looks like the best four wheeler out there other than a Honda. I have a farm so I've always needed the honda's dual capabilities for work and play. That grizz looks like it wouldn't shy away from any farm work though, I bet it would fit right in with my other machines. We also bought my 11 year old daughter a Hammerhead GTS 150 go cart earlier this year. Those are actually owned by Polaris now, ours came with a Polaris book. The clutch is Automatic CVT with chain drive line. It has electric start, bucket seats, 5 point racing harnesses (its a 2 seater) daytime running lights, forward neutral and reverse, roll cage, top, loud horn, disc brakes and a really good suspension system on it. I'm 6 foot 1, 280lbs and it hauls me around like nothing and its a comfortable smooth ride. Top speed is around 42mph and it has great acceleration. Its nice for her to drive and follow us down the back roads. I think it would go most places off road that we go but it doesn't have a ton of ground clearance and driving over deep ruts, tall rocks or through deep water would be a problem. Other than that , great little dune buggy type machine. Brand new, with tax out the door, $2,736.44. In my opinion, it was pretty cheap for the machine it is. They also make a more powerful 250 version

Haha yes yes it seems that female riders are always on the Kodiak. Yes, I would ride one, but they don’t seem as fast especially on takeoff. They have the heavier clutch weights, which makes them slower on takeoff than the grizzly. I prefer to ride the grizzly it seems more sporty. Hope that helps you out. Thanks for checking out the video!

What’s your idea for the air filter?
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 6 лет назад
Are you talking about the air filter on the Kodiak ?
@chrispchicken313
@chrispchicken313 6 лет назад
Yes. I’ve seen a couple ideas but they require drilling and cutting.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 6 лет назад
I'll try and give you a quick explanation of what i did. first I took and closed of the emission tube out let where it went inside the filter and drilled a another hole out side of the filter area but still inside the air box and place a small filter on that outlet. Then i cut out a peace of filter type foam so that it would fit around the stock sealing foam where the filter adapter meets the front of the air box. So now i have more sealing area for the front of the filter adapter to seal. Still using the stock filter and adapter so far have seen no dirt get past that setup. Hope that helps ya.
@chrispchicken313
@chrispchicken313 6 лет назад
I like that idea best so far. Thank you.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 6 лет назад
chrispchicken313 I think I may have left out the reasoning I move the emission tube out from inside the air filter. I noticed that dirt was coming out from that tube and getting on the inside of the air filter. So it would make you think that dirt was getting past the filter.

@@kcatv9556 what would that equal to miles? I absolutely love this channel after watching I had to go and buy the head sets for my helmet so my daughter and I can talk when we ride together makes life alot easier!

joe seiber .. Tell you the truth I’m not really sure what the miles would be. We do such a variety of riding sometimes we’re in the woods In a lower gear so the miles doesn’t add up very quick on those rides. I know what you mean about the communicators! I couldn’t imagine riding without them now. Makes it so much more convenient!

Hey KC thanks so much for gettin back so quickly, I really do like your videos especially on Tin Cup. I just got into ATVing about 6 weeks ago and I love it, just can't wait till I get out there again, I live in Colorado and ride Rampart Range since it's so close to where I live, there are You Tube videos on it and the trails are pretty narrow that's why I was asking about the withe. Thanks again.

Hey KC another cool vid (yes I know it old :-) I think you referred to your bike as a '16, or maybe I miss heard you? In any case deff a '15, and not a 2016. Also, keep an eye on the "16's Kodi air filter. The design is junk and should be replaced with something like an EHS or fab your own.

@@kcatv9556 yep I think the 700 is better for two adults + gear.. I decided to say no to polaris because it has "Girly AWD nonsense" my final question is this with a Honda seen as your previous bike what was the 2 or 3 CRITICAL decisions why the two bikes you bought are not a pair of Honda"s? Thanks for the reply :)
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 5 лет назад
That’s a great question, The reason I went with day two Yamaha machines rather than Hondas first off I didn’t like the Honda three speed transmission that they use. Also there are very underpowered not that the grizzly has that much power, but it’s not as underpowered as the Honda Utilities. The suspension I prefer on the Yamaha machines over the Honda as well. To me they just didn’t seem exciting to ride if you know what I mean. The Honda I was riding the TRX 700 xx that thing was not under powered and it was exciting to ride but it was time to go with the 4 x 4 utility and yes I would’ve bought a Honda if they would build one that’s more sporty in the utility version.
