My 2016 Mazda 6 is 2-1/2 years old now with 47,000 miles. I enjoy driving it, and reliability has been very good. Gas mileage in particular was surprisingly good in real world driving conditions. Friends often assume its a much more expensive car, so they're suprised to find that its priced well under $30k. Seats could definitely be more comfortable. A bit too stiff for my taste, but fine for my daily commute. The car sits low, so friends and relatives sometime struggle to get in and out of it. The vertical framing column between the front and rear doors often gets in the way if you're trying to get in an out while the seats are pushed back away from the dash.
@@arcticfirst I just got a 2016 I Touring with 34,000 miles, also. I hear reliability is great, probably because they've refined the suspension, engine and transmission over the years.
I got my 2016 mazda6 with 41k on it and now have 72k, I've driven it from Oregon to texas and back and I use it for door dash. Have owned it for a little over a year and it's seemed pretty solid, though the transmission seems to be sluggish at times.
Just bought a mazda6 with 46k miles. Every Camry, civic, accord around me with similar or even double the mileage is selling for a hefty amount more. Did these cars not sell well for a reason? It's so fun to drive I can't believe it's even compared to something like a camry
@@grumpywolfgaminghey I'm currently looking at 2016 I Touring to possibly buy. I do alot of door dashing how has it been holding up for you this and any issues?
Tibor Zavecz “Crying” is a bit of a stretch. I’m guessing your European vehicle is diesel so that hp isn’t quite as important given the increased torque.
Love the video, this actually is kinda the final nail in the coffin I think I’m going to purchase the same vehicle. Was wondering however if you could make an updated video of how it’s going right now for you.
Already did it for you. Got 155k miles on mine, been in 2 accidents, one major one minor (lost fender, disconnected the driver's wheel from the suspension and destroyed the hub), engine power is still good, lost clutch at 100k miles and serpentine belt blew at 115k, other than that no faults, no engine problems, no transmission issues, body is still stiff even after the accidents and it corners like a monster. Moved from the south to the great white north and its survived two winters with no issues.
Id say radio is a very minor complaint as well as you noted. Just take it in to somewhere other than a dealer. Take it to an audio shop and request it off anyone good at it. Will offer assistance
The new ‘18s I can’t afford but I have a ‘16 6 sport lease that Im returning this week its due back. BUT I decided to finance a ‘16 6 GT and I LOVE it! I had my leased 6 for 3 yrs and I love it in every way! I do have some close friends who have a ‘14 Infiniti Q50 with their lag performance v6 give me a few jabs because my 6 has 184 hp. Moronic yes I know, the 6 is fantastic daily and quick enough to laugh at the gas station and look great at all times! Great Review!!!
Growing up, my family always drove Honda’s or Toyota’s (and Acura’s and Lexuses). There was certainly a reason for it, which was that we rarely ever had issues with them. This still holds relatively true today. My ‘05 accord has nearly 175k on it and the engine is still bulletproof. Hard to imagine that thing ever breaking down. However, it is really neat to see a smaller manufacturer like Mazda moving up the charts in terms of reliability and style. I’ve found myself really drawn to the newest generation of the 6 and have always wanted one. When the 2014 6 came out I wanted to own that vehicle, but being 17, didn’t have that kinda money. Will definitely be eyeing that for my next car. When it comes to the most reliable cars you always hear the names Toyota or Honda. While certainly not unjust, it gets quite old, so I’m pretty happy to see how well Mazda has done in recent years and really hope to see them up in that same higher league in the future. Fortunately people are finally starting to notice them. I really appreciate the longer-term review.
Thanks for the review, condidering one of these to replace my recently destroyed Honda that was hit by a nutso speed demon while parked in front of my house.
The only major reasons why Mazda probably isn't selling as "well" as their competition probably has to do with stubborn brand loyalty AND the fact that mainstream car buyers probably view their car nothing more than an appliance. They probably don't gaf how it looks or how "fun" it is to drive; hell, they probably don't even want ANYTHING "different" from everything else... However, I do see a pretty fair share of Mazdas throughout where I live VERY regularly, but I hear they don't even have ANY dealerships outside of major big city markets. Not only that but it's increasingly evident that people out in the sticks are reluctant to buy ANYTHING foreign including Honda & Toyota. About an hour & a half away from me, there's a mid 2010's 2 door Accord fully loaded with low miles & just below $17 g's. Clean Carfax. It's been sitting at that dealership for SEVERAL MONTHS. A Mazda goes on sale in the sticks, it'll probably sit until the price falls below average market value, too!
But are they also like reliable too. Cuz I’m plan on getting a 2017 Mazda6. N I just freakin luv that car tbh. But is it reliable tho I’ve done my research an everything.
@@jessicahicks5797if it was well maintained by the previous owner its not a problem at all just take a look at it in detail but 85,000 isnt too bad for a used car 😊
Nice longer term review and certainly agree with a lot of what you've said! Love my '17.5 Touring with black leatherette for sure. It's hard to accurately compare video vs. actual, but I don't believe my car is as loud inside as what's on the video, so perhaps they did make some gains there? I've gotten used to not touching the screen, using the controllers so I use the Nav feature and bounce around to different media types (USB mp3 mostly) all the time on the road. Any plans for mods - perhaps you can show updates? I added aftermarket fog lights and OEM light switch plus front mud guards quite easily and inexpensively for looks and functionality and would love the a rear lip spoiler (for looks).
@@spartan362kauten8 I'm just shy of 40k miles. Just standard, every 5k miles maintenance for me with brake pads, front and rear to date. Still on stock tires. I did also added the Android Auto/Apple Car play kit.
I have a 2016 diesel Mazda 6. The only problem I'm having is the steering wheel. The leather wrap started wearing off around a year ago. Mazda is to provide me with a replacement steering wheel. I'm from New Zealand.
@@TheDreamsWork yes I still own the vehicle. The car hasn't given me any problems at all. I l've installed all *corcksport mazda performance uogrades, maganaflow catback exhaust and MV-TUNING bodykit. This car is a keeper, trust me. It responds great to upgrades.
@@angelbluerider9588 no carbon build up. I always take it to the dealership for maintenance and the only things I've had to replace so far is the air filters.
Excellent review. There's no doubt the car looks fantastic, but there has to be something greater than brand loyalty (to the other brands) that keeps sales down as compared to the big players (I suspect Honda sells more vehicles than Hyundai, and believe the Accord to be the second best selling mid-size sedan after the Camry). It would be nice to hear from folks with higher mileage samples as to reliability issues. I drive a Camry SE with 155K miles and the only real complaint I have, if I can call it that, is that it's not that exciting to drive. But I knew that when I bought it, and they've apparently started adding more excitement in their current models. Once you become spoiled with a daily driver that is reliable, comfortable, quiet, and economical, at over 150K miles, there really is no reason to switch, for most people. The Camry has needed absolutely nothing that wasn't a wear item. I'm a car guy, though, and if I could find a mid-size, four door that did all the Camry does AND is more fun to drive, and still offers a manual transmission, then it would be at the top of my list, but as a daily driver, I am not willing to sacrifice reliability for more styling, road feel, etc., and as a weekend car, well, you can always do better with a Toyota 86, or Mazda Miata, or a Corvette. Thanks again for the review!
It's a good discussion for sure. I drive an '17.5 touring with a manual under full disclosure that looks identical to GTN's minus no sunroof and auto, but I do have heated seats that came standard. I have friends that buy mostly Toyota and some Honda owning friends because they can drive them "200-300k with no major issues", get decent gas mileage and will hold their value really well. Those three factors alone outweigh any others for them i.e. driving dynamics. My few Hyundai owning friends love the 5yr, 60k bumper to bumper and 100k on drivetrain and the discounts you can get from the dealership. I choose the Mazda6 to hopefully have my cake and eat it too - reliability of 2.5L naturally aspirated with manual transmission, gas mileage and some fun (again manual) in a mid-size. If I didn't need the back seat and trunk space, the Mazda3 Grand Touring with manual is an awesome choice in a slightly smaller and lighter package.
MG-70 I think a big reason why Mazda doesn’t sell as many cars as some of the other brands is because their dealer network is pretty sparse. Mazda dealers tend to only be in major metropolitan areas and large cities. If you live in a rural area you could be hours away from a Mazda dealer. Also, even in large cities there might only be 2 or 3 Mazda dealers whereas there are probably 5-10 Honda, Toyota, Ford, and GM dealers apiece, maybe even more.
Nice work. In previous reviews so many individuals even complain about the position of the cup holders and the radio control knob. The reason that Mazda lags so far behind the other Japanese leaders is because Mazda just doesn't have the kind of money it takes to advertise their products sufficiently. I cannot recall when I viewed the last Mazda commercial. Although I believe Mazda makes a very good quality product, they do want a lot of money for them. I am currently looking at a slightly used 2016.5 Mazda Mazda6 and I believe that is the one I want to purchase. I have been doing a lot of homework in regards to issues related to Honda and Toyota and find it very disturbing that these two leaders have been cutting corners drastically and often refuse to effect repairs that are under warranty. So Mazda seems to be the smart choice in this ever evolving auto market. Thanks very much for a comprehensive and encouraging review. Regards, Tony
Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear you found the review helpful. I think Mazda is making more of a name for themselves in the market but I tend to look at it from a narrow view. In the broad spectrum of things many people do probably gravitate to the Honda's and Toyota's of the world while Mazda gets overlooked but I certainly hope they can change that. Enjoy your 6 if you go that route!
I know this was posted a long time ago, but: to use the touch screen you have to look there. To use physical controls you can use them by touch after a while. It's actually super annoying as more and more manufacturers place basically tablets in their car and get rid of physical controls. I understand that it's cheaper for them but it actually increases the possibility of an accident... Interesting review otherwise, I am looking to buy a used mazda 6 so I just read both pro and amateur reviews from various sources. Apparently if you prevent the rust in time these are relatively low cost reliable cars and I also like the looks...
Chris Potter Incredibly well. I clean them every once in a while with some all purpose interior cleaner and that’s it. The driver seat looks as good as it did when I bought it.
Kamadev888 It’s comfortable but not luxurious. It doesn’t have Volvo like seats and it could stand to be a touch quieter with regards to road noise but a 5 hour drive is easy enough. Surprisingly the ride over rough roads is better than average even with the 19” wheels but not Lexus quality. Fuel tank release is on the lower part of the dashboard, far left, under the small change try.
@@grandtouringnation1709 Feel Faster. I just bought a 6spd '16 Touring model. Its not the fastest and a second slower than the turbo midsize sedan I am replacing but very fun to drive
Not sure if you can call a car rock solid after only driving 22,000 miles. I have driven my 06 eclipse 175K miles and still on original engine and transmission. I would call that rock solid.
I think it’s a fair description based on my experience. Congrats on your mileage, that’s awesome, but there are plenty of people with vehicles that have over half a million miles on their cars so I guess they would say that your eclipse can’t be described as rock solid. It varies for each person.
I had a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix with 270,000 miles that I gave an oil change to once every 2 years. Started up in -30 degree weather and only had to get rid of it because someone crashed into it. 😂
Most people, usually say that the car is good early on, because it's early on before the 100,000 mile mark. Some, may also feel guilty that they spent so much money on the car, and don't want to look bad by saying that the car, they bought is trash. For example, my cousin, bought a 2016 GMC terrain, and although it's a nice SUV, it's ALWAYS breaking down. everybody admitted to him that the car was trashed but he wouldn't believe it. It wasn't until his wife got fed up and told him the truth. He then sold it and bought a 2019 Toyota rav4. So yes I do agree with you on that!
I have 2016 Camry 168 k miles on it within 2 and half year had to change ball bearings and water pump , drive belt , lower control arm replaced and I think I might have a fuel pump issue too so I can say Toyota not that reliable any more so iam looking for more options
MrTransdental first of all thx for taking your time to explain well as for the fuel pump I got my car checked again by a different mechanic and he diagnosed that the throttle had some kind of blockage so he cleaned it and now the car drives like new and my alternator gave up yesterday had that replaced and I live in NYC and the road here are horrible lots of pot hole. Now my car has 172k on it.
@@TAK1991 It's lifecycle cost Jay: reaching 300000 km. Run-up to 550k km. My Prius+ i2015 has 167k km. Have to replace ball bearings for comfort elements, maybe sth next year. The car is fine, it cost a bit with original service.
Ch Nasir DI yeah I did realized that and now my car got 202 k miles and the car is still pretty good I have heard that Prius battery replacement is quite expensive
I hope Mazda CEO sees this comment. Mazda you try to copy the big players but don't want to exceed your competitors best. Always lacking in engine options and always behind in leadership. Get rid of the lame RX8 or put a decent reliable Sky- Active gas V6 or V8 in it. As for the rotary engines it's wasting your company $$$$$$$$$$$$ and manpower. Build a urban mini pickup by using the 3's engines and keep the price down to earth for all Janes and Joes. Made that user friendly for folks of all ages and health conditions. Lower the heights of the cargo loading areas. Build it simple not just the full dressed pricey models. Don't follow F-150, Ram, or the Trundra or its smaller sibling.(Too Big) Don't follow GM= Gross Management tries to build costly corporate butt hurt limited collectors vehicles that cause that giant to bankruptcy. Put a premium V6 in that 6 would bring more buyers. Put a simple light weight cheap to manufacture full time hard top on that Miata. Come on, there are many parts of the world couldn't get warm sunny days all the time. Not everyone likes bird droppings, dust, and cold wet weathers Put at least another 75 - 150 HP into the Miata would help. Stop just listen to your past loyal customers. They are too small for your company to expansion. You need to build up your products and brand name to all buyers not just the wannabe premium brand. Too scare to step out of your comfort zones MAZDA ? Then stay small and keep shrinking in the global market.
Have you heard of saab? Go read that story. If mazda did what you asked. Thats what would be the outcome.. now i do agree they need to figure something out to really revive their brand in the states. I feel they make their $$$ elsewhere
