Just finished installing a 2.9 Whipple on my buddy's Chevy Silverado and after he had a chance to daily drive it for a day or two we took it out for some datalogging and some fun Sequel video • You won't believe how ...
Nice work. I recently got the same put on my 2017 with some stainless longtubes and she absolutely screams lol got a couple videos of it running and the dynograpgh at 528hp
I dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my login password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Valentino Anderson i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Wanting to do the same to my truck with the whipple but I’m a little worried about the capabilities of the stock rods and rings. Is that truck still running stock components on that much boost and how has it handled it? Thanks in advance
At 15psi it's still going strong a 100% stock motor other then exhaust. Doing good although it's in the shop due to something with the intake pump. Waiting for the owner of the truck to update me cause we are supposed to try and make a few passes down the track with it this week
The whipple tune is pretty refined. Since this video was made, the boost has been turned up to 15psi without changing the tune. Still runs perfect, datalogs show afr is dead on the money
@@turbojeremy13 I see. So you don’t think you’ll outflow the heads on this 5.3? I have a 2011 5.3 LMG 1500 with a TVS 2300 pushing about 8-9 lbs atm and wondering how high I can go. Mines an iron block with 799 heads….pretty stout machine
No. Still running the stock fuel system. The track has since had a meth kit installed but the nozzle is super small. When we go to a 3" pulley the meth kit will get a bigger nozzle. The stock fuel system is supposed to be good for 500 to 550rwhp
@Elementis Regamus Proelium I need to make a new video nothing truck. It now has a smooth boost, boost controller. With the turn of a nob, boost can be set anywhere from 0psi to 15psi. So if gas prices are a concern, you can turn the blower off
@@turbojeremy13 that's a nice feature. If gas does hit five plus dollars a gallon here in Texas then I think I'll be looking into a Tesla LOL. I appreciate your response in feedback
@@turbojeremy13 hey can you provide the turbo boost controller. I'm looking to purchase the Whipple but not sure how to go about tuning. Newbie I would love to have the controller option
I have a 14 and I’m also in Las Vegas. I want to do this as well but I wanna hear the whistle if I do is it the audio or just the exhaust the reason you can hear it scream?
It's the exhaust. Since this video was made we have done multiple changes, one of which is long tube headers and a quieter catback. The beginning of the video has been filmed, just need to finish it up. With the exhaust quieter, the blower screams
How much hp differences between 5.3 n 6.2 both cam if it’s big difference the lt1 block is like 2 k I got a 2015 crew cab 5.3 plan on cam just saying because if it’s only like 20 whp not worth the 2k but I don’t know how much different?
This is stock tranny stock converter? My stock settings shift like 💩 right now. Just have Borla full exhaust and CAI but want to do the same as you. 16’ Silverado 5.3 6 speed
Get that trans built. GM used junk torque converters and a dumbass converter lock up schedule in them. The converter will fail and ruin everything. My bone stock 2015 has 40,000 miles on it and torque converter started its shit. I parked the truck immediately and it’s going in 2 weeks for a new billet converter and stage1 rebuild that will handle 550HP+ in case I ever want to add power. 3 of us in my area have had the same transmission trouble with these trucks. It’s a known issue and GM has a bulletin out on it.
Technically if you just cruise around and stay out of boost, the stock tune will be safe to get you to the tuner. But if you plan to have any fun with it, you need a tune first. If you buy the kit from whipple itll come with a very conservative tune
@@noahsheehan6295 its a bolt on kit that anyone with even basic mechanical skills can install. The tune is written for you, just need to load it into the trucks computer. There are very detailed instructions included. Plus whipple has good technical support if needed
How many miles was on the truck when the supercharger was added? I'd love to do this to my 2016 but I've racked up some miles up to 140k now. And can this add on be a daily driver? I like to go out of town I'm in NC and go to Atlanta, Orlando and VA Beach on a regular
It had about 30k at time of install. Has about 65k now. It had been a daily driver the entire time. As long as your motor has had regular maintenance, there is no reason you can't put a blower on it. If it's not smoking or making weird noises, go for it
@@turbojeremy13 I've had the maintenance done over and over and it runs great I've had it for a while now. Thanks for the response I'll definitely subscribe.
@@darrenwarren2162 just for the record, this video is old. The truck now runs 15psi of boost as well as water/methanol injection and is running better than ever
WoW hey you know any places around Illinois ill buy a root or twin scre super charger made out of alloy or stainless steel to last longer ill probably get a roots for cheaper mines a oversized v6 with turbo on it i want to supercharge it and put a switch to activate it and put a boost gaidge to see if its workin on my dash you know where in lillionois please?
I dont know any direct bolt on kits. I know people use a blower that's sold on ebay for cheap. It's an oem part, I think made for v6 Cadillacs but it would require a manifold to bolt to
@@turbojeremy13 oh thats cool ill probably put a root or forge a twin supercharger blower on it i might need to cut a hole in my hood and put a pully on the crankshaft and and weld a cap on the crankshaft pully to keep the pullies from falling off even the pully on the supercharger cause the'll fall off if you don't weld a cap on to the two pullies thats on crankshaft conected to the boost belt that assembles on the pully of the supercharger ill put a filter on the valve to don't suck dirt or rain in the blower and ill used senthetic 10w30 bfg6 B oil that works good in my engine hopefully for the blower there easy to forge if you know what your doing thanks ill be sure to keep that in mind.
So what happened with this truck? How was it running after a final tune? The owner sounded like he was expecting more. At that altitude, I'd be looking into methanol and pulley down.
The holidays and his job kinda set us back. In this video it had a 4.5" pulley. We have since switched to a 3.8" pulley. We have also added a snow methanol kit but currently only running a 250 nozzle. Currently planning to change the exhaust (it has no muffler currently), smaller blower pulley, bigger meth nozzle and a wide band o2. He also has a smooth boost that has been ordered but not installed so plenty to do ok this truck, just need to find time
@@turbojeremy13 I got mine installed and am absolutely loving it. The first thing I noticed was that 1st gear is useless if I floor it. Driving with a whipple has a learning curve. I definitely have to drive differently now. The transmission definitely needs a tune. When I'm on it it feels powerful, but the shifts are so sloppy. The stock calibration runs incredibly rich. I mean fat rich! My exhaust tips have become permanently black lol. There is unquestionably a lot of power left on the table. At the end of the month I'm going in for a dyno session to see what exactly the engine and blower is doing and also to get some numbers. I'm completely satisfied with the power output as is...but I still want to pulley down from the 4.5 the kit came with, add a larger throttle body, and customize the tune. Was there a noticeable increase after swapping the pulley? Were any changes required in the tune for it?
@@snooka2484 we did not retune for the smaller pulley because the "canned" tune from whipple was so rich it had plenty of fuel. Its still rich even with the smaller pulley. there was definitely a noticable power gain when going with the smaller pulley. Keep me updated on how much power you gain going to a custom tune. I keep telling my buddy who owns the truck he needs a custom tune by he doesnt want to spend the money.
@@palmer110983 it's making about 9psi on the 3.8" but we are also at about 200pft elevation. Would probably be a little more at sea level. Just finished putting on a smooth boost, boost controller so there will be a video coming soon. But basically allows you to turn the blower off with a switch in the cab or turn it to full boost or anywhere in between
My buddy who helped with the install dropped some plugs. One was cracked and quickly found and replaced. This video is old, it now has a 3ish inch pulley and runs 15psi and water/meth. I need to make a new video but the owner of the truck works all the time and we can't seem to sink up
I’m the owner of the truck. No the transmission is fine. We went down to a griptec 3.275 pulley and the largest meth nozzle. According to the data logs were around 650-700 at the crank. For now lol. I go to the car show at Ed Bozarth the first Sunday of every month if you want to check out the truck.
You’ve been lucky brother. GM put shitty torque converters and a dumbass lock up schedule in them and they’re known for failing. Get it built before it costs you double to replace everything.
I was actually talking about traction bars this morning with the owner of the truck. He plans to get some but first he is going to order a smaller supercharger pulley, a bigger methanol nozzle and a wideband o2 sensor
Don't have that info yet. Since this video was made we changed the pulley twice and currently making 15psi. The owner now wants a bigger throttle body and Cai.
In this video it's only making 4.5psi. Since this video was made the blower pulley has been changed a couple times and is now making 15psi and it also has a water/meth kit. Been trying to get with the owner of the truck so I can make a new video
Yea bra me too. I’m in Nawlins and the sea level is about 10,000 above sea level. Whipple ran like sht since day one. Now about the Whipple supplied Bib. Full restriction and vacuum lookingnp for a weak point. Found one! Rear main seal. Whipple says “Nothing To see here. No more Whipple trash for me
Driving style has a lot to do with it. I'm getting 15mpg in town and 19mpg highway in my lifted superduty. My wife gets 21-23mpg driving her kia. When I drive it, I get 24-28mpg. She has a heavy foot, I don't
No. Video just makes it seem that way. The torque convert is going out though but that's apparently a common issue with these trucks. A new one from a ctsv will be going in soon
is there anything else i would need to do to install this supercharger? ecu? exhaust? anything other than the kit that i would "need" to do, im hoping with the kit i can install it with nothing else. i already have flowmaster 10 installed on my 2016 LTZ 4x4 and cold air intake but thats it, so im hoping i can install this supercharger without needing anything else and still have it as my DD
From what I've seen the whipples don't whine anywhere near what an eaton or KB does. I know there are companies that make mods to increase the whine of a whipple but I don't believe there are any performance benefits. Also in this video the truck is only running 5psi of boost. It now has a smooth boost electric boost controller and runs 15psi. At 15psi the blower is louder but it's still not crazy. Been trying to get the owner of the truck to come back so I can do a new video
@sergiocamarena1681 I honestly don't know what he spent total on all the parts but I wanna say he paid around $8k for the supercharger, meth kit and smooth boost controller
The exhaust kind of drowns it out. Since this video was made, we have added long tubes, a slightly quieter catback, a much smaller blower pulley and water/meth injection. I have plans to make a follow up video but scheduling conflicts between me and the truck's owner has been a nightmare. Half the video is filmed, just need a little more content to finish it
Since this video was made, the truck has received 2 pulley swaps (running 15psi boost), smooth-boost boost controller, meth injections and a new catback exhaust. Been trying to get the owner to let me make a new video but he says he's too busy.
@@olveramelinda he wasn't. At this altitude and poor air quality it was only making about 5psi on the pulley that came with it. In this video I think the pulley is 4.5" and it's now running a 3.25" pulley and he loves it. Beats the hell out of it and races anyone and anything.
It was misfiring horribly in this video. Datalogs showed it but no CEL. Thanks to Datalogs, we were able to see the front cylinder, driver side was missing. Pulled the plug and it had 2 huge cracks in the side. Changed the plug and it was a whole new motor. Definitely need to make an update video since the truck is now on 15psi of boost and has a water meth kit
