Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe you’re not supposed to use a torque wrench to loosen bolts?

You are correct 100 correct my friend, I couldn’t find my breaker bar so just used that

You can do it technically but it can throw off the calibration. I have a snap on digital torque wrench and it re calibrates itself every time I use it anyways so I use it to loosen bolts sometimes. I how ever would NOT use it with a mechanical style torque wrench.

A couple of things, new rotors typically have a coating to prevent rust while stored, I noticed you did not use any Brake Cleaner to degrease the rotors to remove this film as well as the grease from touching them during install. This would be recommended. Secondly, I noticed you didn’t apply any brake pad grease to the back of the new pads. This is usually a black or silver grease designed to help prevent the pads from sticking to the guides or have noise from the contact between the pistons and the backs of the pads. And lastly, it is normally recommended to mate the pads to the rotors by several quick steady hard braking applications from around 30mph then 40 then 50ish. Feel free to disregard this advise but only trying to help. Good video though!

this is the way to seat them correctly or else they will warp prematurely.

I appreciate your comment comments like this help people learn so no worries my friend, and I did ask Benz tech about this he stated - Not all rotors come with it. But yes we did clean the rotors befor. Not all brake need grease. Never had to do it befor. Never had a problem. And stoping that hard on brand new brkaes can mess them up. Break in period is fine

@@JesseRizo in this truck, you should grease the contact surface for the pads it will keep them quiet and the pins should be greased so the pads can slide to prevent pad dragging.

The grease is optional and is not really needed. Also definitely a good idea to clean after done because otherwise they smell and make noise a bit sometimes, but I think never do it lol. Doing my brakes today and definitely doing all this

I really like the video guys. My friend and I are about to do our first brake changes on our Tacomas. The only thing I would add if you could edit and add notes would be the size of the hex bolt to use to remove the rotors, to lube or not to lube the caliper pins and I'd recommend adding the lithium based anti seize lube on the inside of the rotors. But thank you for posting and for the link.

I did mine on my 2016 a couple months ago. It went pretty much by the numbers EXCEPT, when time to reinstall the new pads, the pistons had creeped out a bit so I needed to re-compress them. This proved to be a bit of a headache as there always seemed to be one of the four that creeped back out. I'd done this on my previous Fords, and it was easy to re-compress with a "C" clamp and a small piece of 1/2" plywood. Not the case with my Taco, and we struggled with it for a while before we could get the pads in place. Do you know why this was? I'm thinking of getting one of those Lisle compression tools for next time. What do you think?

@nelliott500 2 года назад
9 months late but I figured it would be nice to have a response. There's no need to bleed any air out of the lines because the lines haven't been removed so there's no air introduced into the system. You only need to bleed the brakes if you've disconnected a brake line or you had a leak that resulted in depleting the brake fluid reservoir too far.

Just watched this video to help me out. To remove the rotor I used the 12 mm bolt from one of the horns. It worked perfectly at pulling the rotor off.

Buddy....I think you've installed the pads the wrong way around. The scraper goes on the inside??? Just like the one that was removed at the beginning of the video. Cheers.

Cool demonstration that was easy. A little trick put a little WD40 on the threads makes it easy to get the lug nuts off the next time.

Your squealer was on the bottom inside when you took it out, but you said to install it on the outside!
