@@GJJC13 It's a Prius, what kind of acceleration do you expect? Absolute fuel economy is the goal. It's 0.2s faster than the last generation 0 to 60, and has slightly better 0 to 30 ratings.
Outside air was high heat, low humidity with the sun shining strong. A/C was on the whole time. Sams location is high above sea level. He probably wasn't driving in a straight-line going 55 mph the whole time. Model to Model variation also can come into play.
The Eco 2 is designed for the city at lower speeds in stop and go traffic, that's why it gets more gas mileage in the city versus highway and not the other way around. I think you bought the wrong car for your area, judging by this video. You simply are not getting enough of the energy back out of the reactive braking. Do research.
Living in the snow belt, I did have to trade my 2006 Prius for a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid. If I didn't live in Minnesota, I'd certainly purchase another Prius! Four inches of ground clearance isn't enough for me. I do prefer a black interior. The 2016 Prius window sun guards do not offer an extension. The RAV4 Hybrid does. The 2016 Prius doesn't not offer i-AWD. The RAV4 Hybrid does. Many models of the Prius do not offer a spare tire. The RAV4 Hybrid does. The gas mileage of the Prius, you will not get with the RAV4 Hybrid. When gasoline goes back to $4.00 - $10.00 dollars a gallon, you'll be sorry that you didn't get a Prius. Even beyond this, I've always thought that we should treat our resources carefully. Maybe, we should think about another generation that will follow us. I'll give much credit to Toyota for making improvements to the Prius! Still, for me, I had to go with the new 2016 RAV4 Hybrid. The Lexus model, with the same drive train, goes for about $16,000.00 dollars more. So, I do have to suffer with a little decrease in the interior quality. So what, with that $16.000.00 dollars, I could purchase another accordion. I love the 7 inches of ground clearance and over 33-36mpg! After three months of ownership, I'm very happy with my decision.
So, you are getting 33036 mpg with the Rav4 Hybrid...? Is that measured by the computer or at the pump? I'm on the fence between the Prius Two and the Rav4 Hybrid...

Also it's over one hundred degrees Fahrenheit outside and it has a darker color paint job which takes away power from the powertrain due to parasitic loses form the A/C compressor
I watched it out of morbid curiosity and am forwarding to my hybrid-loving friend. Third world agricultural vehicle LOL That was a harsh assessment of the prior Prii.
Thanks for the really good review. I also don't like the looks. But, you don't buy this for looks. You buy it for economy, and saving gas, and hopefully minimizing your climate footprint.
In your tests of the Toyota Corolla LE and Corolla LE ECO, the cheaper Corolla LE got better gas mileage than the Corolla ECO. Toyota must have a quality control problem. Given the price of gasoline, I think a Corolla LE or a Honda Civic LX would be a much better long term value than the Prius in any trim. I think the new Prius is ugly, inside and out, but I consider the Corolla to be very tasteful and lovable, inside and out.
Agree it’s ugly, so who don’t need cargo will buy Corolla or Camry hybrid. I bot used 2010 Prius because it biggest hatch on market, almost wagon. Fuel economy wasn’t number one priority and I was scared of hybrids, so many electronics to brake down. 7 years later over 130000 mi still don’t know what is it mechanic and where’s located.
Depending on the season and weather conditions the mpg will vary. Hybrids get better mpgs during the warmer seasons. Right now in February with the temps averaging in the low 60s I'm getting getting mid around 54mpg 80% hwy.
Great review as always! Easily one of (or maybe the #1) the fugliest cars of 2016, but note that #1 Prius owners expect a unique-looking car to prove to the world they are saving the planet, and #2 improved aerodynamics must play into the horrendous taillights.
good review. This car is pretty ugly, but actually it may be a good thing, at least it doesnt look like a cookie cutter car that looks like everything else. If I were to get one I would have to have some exterior mods to play with its exotic look.
