This was me. I had never sat down to watch baseball but when I heard the cubs were in the World Series I made sure I watched this series. Not even a cubs fan or baseball fan, I just know the history of the cubs.
I grew up as a Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan. In 1998 I watched in horror as Reinsdorf and Krause disassembled the best basketball team on the planet. The Bears and Hawks have a history of trading away talent. And now, a mere 6 years after winning the World Series, pretty much all of that 2016 team is gone.
You missed the 2011 WS game 6. That game had 2 comebacks (both involving the home team being down to their last strike) plus a walk off homer. But this was the best game 7 ever. In my opinion anyway.
Watching Fowler hit that home run immediately in the 1st brought back memories of Hester running it back on the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl. I was scared shitless after that... but this one worked out....
Are you a Colts fan too? My teams are a bit weird. Im originally from Chicago (well, technically Aurora, IL. But its really close to Chicago). My whole family are Bears fans, Bulls fans, Blackhawks fans, and either White Sox or Cubs fans. I moved to North-East Indiana with my dad when I was 6 yo. Didnt really watch a whole lot of sports as a kid. I played damn near everything though. Still, I watched some, and the Colts quickly became my favorite NFL team. Especially with Peyton Manning being our QB. I played a lot of baseball, and my area had a lot of different fans. Being from close to Fort Wayne, we are a somewhat equal distance between Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Columbus, and Indianapolis. Due to this, we tend to have a lot of fans from a lot of different sports teams. I tended to go back to my roots though, so I quickly became a Cubs fan and a Blackhawks fan. Now, as far as college, my Aunt wound up going to Ohio State for geology. She would come home all the time and we would watch games together and she would bring me t-shirts, hoodies and hats, etc and I became an Ohio State fan. I started to get into basketball when I was about 13. I quickly became a huge Dwyane Wade fan. I loved watching him play, and it became even more exciting when Shaq joined the team. Then, they go on the win the NBA Finals in 2006, which was freaking awesome. Crazy thing is, they had a SOMEWHAT similar series like the Cubs here did. The Heat went down 0-2 to start the series, and were all but completely counted out, only to rally and win the next 4 games, mainly behind insane performances from D Wade, where he averaged almost 40 points per game for those last 4 games, while Shaq averaged like 12 rebounds per game. Then, not too long after that, the Colts are winning the Super Bowl lol. Its been a crazy time over the past 16ish years. A lot of winning, and a fair share of heart-breaking losses too.
That didn't cross my mind until just now, but I do remember Hester's TD return of opening kick off. Being a Cub fan always means being worried until game is finally over.
@@josephculver1585 Yep. Lifelong Cubs fan and huge Notre Dame Football (and other sports) fan. For both the Cubs and the Irish, I just feel like I'm waiting for everything to fall apart.
I was in Chicago for game 4 of this series, with a group of friends who flew in from as far as Switzerland. We didn't have tickets, just hung out in Wrigleyville and experienced the madness of 10 blocks of streets being blocked off in all directions with just throngs of people in the street just waiting to explode. That game was a heartbreaking loss, but a great time with great people. 3 days later sitting in a bar I'd never been to with another group of friends, we witnessed the most dramatic game 7 in the history of the series. The rain delay (not featured in this highlight footage) really increased the tension at the time. Being a Wednesday, everyone had to work the next day, and half the bar left early when the delay happened. The rest of us did as true Cubs fans do and drank our worries away. A memorable moment in baseball history, celebrated with good friends and total strangers.
I come back to watch this clip often, and now that my Pops has passed away it brings on more significance. He, fortunately, was able to attend the White Sox WS games in 2005 and he went to 2 Cubs WS games in 2016. He and I talked constantly while game 7 was going on, calling excited, nervous, never giving up hope because we just knew that the Cubbies were going to pull it off. I miss my Pops and our conversations but this video reminds me of him and our love for our hometown.
Came here after the massive fire sale- Nobody will ever take this WS away from us. It’ll always be in our minds and hearts until the end of time. Thank you Bryzzo, Javy, Schwarber, and all the rest of the legendary 2016 Cubs. -sincerely, all of Chicago
Thanks. Yeah that was one HELL of a year. Lead the league with 103 wins. Second in the league had 95. After being down 3-1 in the World Series and coming back. Holy fuck it felt so God damn good to get that win. I cant lie, watching that lead get blown in the 8th damn near gave me a heart attack. I remember thinking to myself "alright, 4 more outs and we win the WS". Then the Indians just start hitting the ball and scoring runs, then they tie the game. Holy shit I was SOO nervous. I still remember that last hit. At first I saw the hit and my heart sank. Then, the camera changed and I see it going straight to Bryant, and right then I knew. As soon as I saw the throw and knew it wasnt a crazy wild pitch or something, I jumped out my seat screaming. 108 freaking years. IDK if you remember the '08 season. A lot of Cubs fan were convinced that the Cubs were DEFINITELY winning the WS that year. It was exactly 100 years since the last WS, we had a great team with 97 wins under our belt (tied with 2nd in the league). That was a rather emotional end of a season for sure. Only had to wait another 8 freakin years though to finally get another win. Honestly, with the start we had LAST season I had my hopes up a little bit lmfao. Then we started to fall apart and those hopes were quickly dashed. Hopefully we dont have to wait 108 years again! lmfao
I cant tell you how emotional this game was. After the '08 season when everyone thought it was the Cubs' "destiny" to win the World Series after a 100 year drought, after the close games and shit that had happened in the postseason, after being down 3-1 and most people counting us out, after giving up that lead with 2 outs in the 8th inning like that. When I saw that ball get hit directly towards Bryant, and I saw him scoop it up and throw it over to Rizzo I jumped out of my seat and screamed one of the loudest screams I've ever screamed, lol. Holy LORD that was one HELL of a way to end a World Series. Im SO glad the Cubs were able to win, especially after so long. Whats insane is the Indians had the SECOND longest drought in the MLB too. So either way, an extremely long drought was going to end. Im just SO happy that it was my Cubs that got the W.
You said it brother. 03' we were up 3 games to 1 to boot when Bartman happened. He didn't lose that game. Alex Gonzalez did by bobbling a routine grounder that would have ended the inning up 2. Either way, we got our sweet redemption with this title and can die like most Cub fans couldn't... witnesses to a World Series championship.
Now the Indians (I still call them that) need to sign drought-killer Theo Epstein to a GM contract: he's ended a total of 194 years' worth of titleless futility (86 for the Red Sox and 108 for the Cubs). Cleveland's run without a WS title now spans 75 years and counting...
@@reedturner9574, just like the Buckner error in Game 6 of the 1986 WS against the Mets. That NY win merely tied the series. Plus, the Red Sox led 3-0 in Game 7, only to lose 8-5. Both Buckner and Bartman (and, by extension, their families) should never have gone through the hell their teams' fan bases caused them to endure. Shameful, to say the least...
As a die hard Cubs fan, I can watch this over and over again and never get tired and feel the same feeling I felt that very day my Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series
As a Royals fan I still get the same chills from watching this that I got from watching my guys win it all in 2015. Baseball was made for these moments :)
As a Mets fan that 2015 series against Kansas crushed me. But it is what it is. That team had bad defense and it ended up costing us the series. We havent won shi* since 1986, thats a long time.
I'll never forget this game. My mom stayed up with me and watched the entire thing. One of the best games I've ever watched and quite honored to have witnessed. We were pulling for the Cubs... we're Yankees fans.
I've been a Cubs fan since 1984 and what I remember best about this game was watching it while reading the facebook feed on MLB's website. What really shook me was the stories of so many fans who had been waiting for this a lot longer than I had as the game progressed. Fans who's parents had been lifelong fans who didn't live to see this, fans who lived to listen to WS losses in the 40s on the radio, fans who never attended a game at Wrigley. While so many were screaming and jumping for joy, I found myself just content to watch and take it all in as it became clear that the Cubs were NOT going to blow this one. When you've waited your whole life for this moment, you can wait a little more and just watch and enjoy it.
That was obviously very important on Chapman's part. I think the Cleveland hitters were overly anxious that inning, everyone wanting to be the hero. Chapman fell behind in the count, on at least two of the hitters. One of them flied out on a 3-1 pitch. One of the there hitters scared me to death. The ball took that all too familiar HR trajectory off of his bat, but it was easily a foul ball and lacked HR distance. He would subsequently strike out. Thankfully Chapman was not sent out to pitch bottom of 10th.
So many players on both teams contributing at HUGE moments. One of the best baseball games you will ever see. Gives me chills every time I watch this game.
It’s crazy that Cleveland was in 2 of them. I am from Cleveland area and love my Cleveland teams but this game was the craziest game I’ve ever seen in my life maybe. Even though we didn’t get the win.
“THIS IS GONNA BE A TOUGH PLAY… BRYANT… THE CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!” Still get chills and I tear up cause I was at the cubby bear watching game 7 and man the eruption outside of wrigely Field! So packed you couldn’t walk! What a great memory seeing everyone outside the bar go ballistic and everyone inside! What time it was to be alive and you just had to be there in wrigleyville during Game 7 a memory I’ll have to cherish for the rest of my life the anxiety I suffered that day was worth it!
I don't really think it matters who you root for. But as a fan of the game of baseball, this will arguably go down as one of the greatest games in the history of the sport.
My dad is a cubs fan I'm a Red Sox fan. Watching this game live even tho I had to be up early was worth every second. That 10th inning was special and that team was special. Such an emotional sports moment and I'm glad I saw it
I'm not saying this as a Cubs fan, but as a pure baseball fan: I think this was probably the greatest WS of all-time. It's hard to think of any others that top it. And, overall, the Cubs run to get there was pretty amazing, as well, but this WS was by far the best baseball had to offer in terms of entertainment value.Again, I am not speaking with any bias. I just so happen to be a Cubs fan.
I watched the game up until Chapman gave up the home run. I said the hell with this and laid down. A while later, my wife came into the bedroom and woke me up and said the Cubs were about to win the World Series. I jumped out of bed and watched the last two outs. As a guy in my 50s who lived near Wrigley growing up and attended many games in the early and mid 80s after paying $5 for a bleachers seat, this was one of the best moments of my life.
Ross getting a homer in the final game of his career which is game 7 of the WS to put the Cubs in position to get to extra innings and win thier first in 108 years…it’s why I love baseball.
Me too. Almost cried watching these highlights. Amazing and crazy moment. That game was so up and then down and back up again. By far the best game seven in the history of baseball.
Oh, man. This reel bypasses the smartest play in the Cubs' 10th inning rally. After Schwarber got on, pinch-runner Albert Almora tagged up at first on a deep fly to center and reached second base. That led to Rizzo's intentional walk (because managers always want the force-out at second). The Cubs won this with baserunning as much as with their bats.
Imagine coming up to bat, Game 7 of the World Series, bottom of extra innings in your home crowd, with 1 on and 2 outs and your team down by 1. A homer could make you an instant legend. Every kid who ever wanted to play baseball dreams of coming through in that moment. What pressure.
I've seen it a million times I just watched it again and found myself pounding my fist when Joe took Kyle out he was the ERA leader all year. Even when the Cubs came back to take the lead of the 10th I was still angry at the way we just let the Indians back into the game
Got a Sammy Sosa jersey at 10 yrs I'm from 91 .I cried my ass off in 04 when they got eliminated ..I cried my ass off on 2016 when they won it all!!the 2016 legends!
As a Yankees fan I love seeing Chapman blow the lead when it matters most for someone else’s team. Lmao… all jokes aside, though, what an epic game 7 that was.
Imho there's a clear-cut top 3 best MLB games in the 21st century to date: this game, Game 7 in 2001, and Game 6 in 2011. Personally I'd put 2001 on top, this game at #2, and 2011 at #3. You'd be hard-pressed to concoct a better ending than a bottom-of-the-ninth comeback against the greatest closer ever at the apex of his powers to end the Yankee dynasty. But all 3 of these games are so epic you could make an argument for all of them.
@@agentvdas5217 the indians don't have a very devoted fanbase in my opinion. Consistently have very poor attendance even when the team is doing really well
I remember thinking it was so cool that they were both the teams with the longest world series drought, game 7 made me teary eyed for some reason. I was 12, that was around the time I really became passionate about baseball.
I left my house in the 5th inning to stand in line at Dicks Sporting goods to get my kids, wife, dad, and brother hats. Watching the game from a live feed my wife had set up a lap top infant of the TV, had about 10 people crowding around me. It was a great memory, brought a ton of us strangers together. I still get emotional watching this!!! Go Cubs!!!!
As a Cub fan I can tell you that whole season felt special from the first day of spring camp. But I have to tell you Cleveland had a pretty special season. And they were truly the best team in the AL. They showed you that in the World Series. I wouldn't have had it any other way. The two best teams in the World Series battling it out to the last drop.
Honestly this was the most exciting game 7 of all time in my opinion... I'm a Phil's fan but what was at stake here for both teams wanting to end long droughts made it so much more intense... Great series.
I still watch yours over the MLB one. There is an add every 15 seconds on that one. I agree with everyone on commenting. Greatest game I've ever watched. I was crying like a baby in the middle of the bar and my ex was like... "What happened?"
Watched the game live on TV five years ago and I've always rooted for the Cubs. We, obviously, knew the outcome of this game but I was still on the edge of my seat like it just happened.
I think one of my favorite things about this game is how the entire stadium (Cubs and Indians fans both) both were on their feet for basically the entire game
I was in my last year of college and loosely following the game while doing homework, took a shower and came back to see that the Cubs had won. I yelled "the 108 year curse has been broken!" so loud I scared my roommate and probably woke up our neighbors but I didn't care. Rode that high for the next couple days and proudly wore my grandpa's Cubs jacket to class
Greatest WS game I’ve ever watched. I’m willing to argue greatest single WS game of all time... My mom and I are Red Sox fans, and we were obviously pulling for Chicago. We know what curses are like. We went nuts when they won…
november 3, 2016 at 12:47 a.m. IS A SPECIAL MOMENT IN CHIACGO CUBS HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes the cubs for the first time in 108 years won the world series against the cleveland indians !!!!!!!!!!!! THESE MOMENTS WILL NEVER GET OLD !!!!!!!!!!! oh by the way i would like to congratulate the atlanta braves as 2021 world series champions and to JORGE SOLER WHO WAS THE MVP OF THE SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!! ,,,,,hip ,,,hip...hooray or shall we say "HIP,,,HIP,,, JORGE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the cubs will be back in the future !!!!!!!!!!,,,TRUST ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes, it will take 3 years but nevertheless ALWAYS ENJOY NOVEMBER 2 AND NOVEMBER 3 ,2016 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never forget Chicago brought home the title, believe me when the cubbies won I sat outside and smoked a victory cigar a deer came up to me not more than a foot from me I said to the deer you know the cub just won the world series calmly the deer just walked away into the joyful night.
I can't believe this happened. I will never forget that day ever when my baseball team won the world series. This was the most special thing so far in my life. I hope I will get to see them when another world series in my lifetime
Still haven't seen a better on edge baseball game ever. Cleveland just won their NBA championship and Chicago hasn't tasted a pennant in over a 100 years. Can't make it up.
What a set of pitchers (I know they’re all at different stages I’m career) kluber, miller and Bauer 🤯. And what a hell of a play by lindor in the 8th or this may have not even went to extra innings. The dude was on the other side of 2nd base making the play like unbelievable man
This makes me want to cry. Especially now with the Indians changing their name, it pains me that we didn’t win this World Series when we led it 3-1. To add on, we were better in 2017 and blew it to the yanks in the ALDS. Its the curse of Rocky Colavito.
I am not by any stretch a Cubs fan, but when Chapman gave up that tying HR I was sick to my stomach! I went to bed, telling myself I couldn't possibly see the Cubs this close and lose again! Then I was shocked when I saw the score. I was convinced they would lose! I felt so bad at the time. I woke up in a good mood and was happy for them all day!
