Today I will be showing you a really nice aftermarket upgrade for your 5th generation Honda CRV. This especially applies to the LX model with the base radio, but will also work on the EX model. I am installing and going over the features of a Joying JY-HQ167N4G Android 10 Plug And Play Car Entertainment System for all 2017 and up Honda CRV's. Thanks for a great video as always! This new unit is outstanding! I see you got lucky and bought the last of the K-series 2.4l engine available only on the LX models of CRV. Sadly, since 2019 or 2020 they only come with their 1.5l turbo engines. I’m still enjoying the heck out of my 06 CRV!

Yes. The 2019 LX was the last year CRV I would ever buy until Honda gets it together. I have an 06 and 05 CRV now also.

Good to know there is an aftermarket replacement for the unit on my 2019 CRV that is so easy to install. The unit on my 2011 sonata was the first failure on the car and replacing that is not that easy without a lot of panel changes. So I am living with the permanent error indication on the screen. Does the Yoying unit com with a built in satnav program?

I’ve purchased and installed a brand new 9” from Joying in my 2018 CRV LX. I chose the 9” because of the volume knob and it also looks more stock. The installation was easy thanks to the video! All the features work ok and the unit looks great. The only problem I have is that the screen flickers intermittently. I don’t know if I did something wrong during the install or I got a defective unit. Anyone else have the same issue?

I haven't seen that issue. Check that the ribbon cable that attaches to the screen is plugged in securely with the locking tabs fully engaged. If that doesn't fix it I would reach out to Joying. I've never seen one do that.

Just wanted to update anyone else that may have the same issue. Worked with Joying to resolve, they provided a firmware upgrade which solved the problem. It took a while emailing back and forth but eventually it worked. Thank you Jack for a great video and your reply!

The stock unit comes with some Honda specific items. For example the Maintenance Minder which reminds you when to change the oil, brakes, tires... Does this replacement have a similar maintenance reminder system?

The stock unit in the LX has none of those features, so I do not know on any other model. It probably does, but you would have to ask the manufacturer.

Hello , since the last four-five days my head unit looses timezone / Date & Time and country settings!! every time i reboot the device, I switched to manual time setting and i turned off automatic dated time. It's just that when I don't use the car for three or four days, it loses the memory of the date and time. Every time I have to set it again..Does that happen to you?

I’m was looking to purchase a similar stereo for my Honda Fit LX, my original stereo looks just as yours. Does the clock in your aftermarket stereo updates the hour in your dashboard? In my LX I have to set the clock in my stereo and then it syncs with my dashboard, kind of a dealbreaker if I can’t set up the time once I replaced my stereo

Great video with lots of detail! Just have a couple of questions. I'm looking to buy either the 9 inch or 10 inch screen. Compared to the 9 inch model that you previously had, are they identical as far as features are concerned? Also, have you noticed if the heating or air conditioning coming out of the vents affect the larger 10 inch screen? Especially heat hitting the back of the screen? Thank you for your time.

Just installed it. Haven't had much time to evaluate the heat/ AC situation although I think it will be only a minor issue. Initially I like the 9 inch better just because I like the physical volume knob. It just depends on how you like that huge 10.1 inch display. Features are the same.

When you are connected to android auto with your phone, does the talk button trigger the google assistant on the android auto to your phone or does it go to the google assistant of the head unit itself?

Will it tell me the tire pressure in each of my tires like my $15,000 Hyundai Elantra does? I hate the factory system does not do this despite having a tpms sensor.

No it won't. The CRV has an indirect tpms system and does not have pressure sensors in the wheels. It uses the wheel speed sensor a to look for deflation and notify the operator via the dashboard.

It's all in your preference. The 10-in is obviously larger and still looks pretty good but the 9-in has a more factory look.

So the decision now comes down to which one to buy the 9 or 10 inch. The advantage of the 10” is the one wire connection was corrected, but you need to move the mounting brackets down. To the eye I’m leaning toward the 10" because the screen can never be to big!!

Two important questions if you don't mind. If the FM app isn't up (meaning you click the back button off of it), I noticed it stops the audio completely. Is there a way to keep the music playing while you are on the homescreen/looking at other things. My other question is can you upload your own wallpapers?

Instead of hitting back, which closes the app. Just tap the home button and that will keep it running and playing in the background and you can do other things. Yes, just like an Android phone you can use whatever pictures or live wallpapers you want.

All of the kits they sell for this vehicle use a single din. I've never tried to fit a double din. I'm not sure it would fit

I installed the 10.1 on my Honda Crv 2018-lx. Everything worked fine. Lately, the autolock has stopped working. I was instructed to change model to “rzc” from “xp”, 2017-2021 honda crv. I did. When i changed to rzc from xp, as instructed, I also changed autolock interval from 30 sec to 60 sec. Now, no matter neither does it activate autolock nor does it allow me to switch back interval time back to 30 sec. Any suggestions to fix will be appreciated.

@@kijsoon4682 No. After the latest android update, autolock stopped working. Their tech support solutions did not work. Now they are not even responding to my problem.

What about the TPMS reset function? How do you do that, since the setting is in the stock head unit, is it in the aftermarket unit as well?

On the LX model the TPMS reset button is on the dash, not in the stereo. I believe there is a setting for it in one of the menus though for an EX and above.

Overall I like the smaller one with the volume knob the best, just because I like having that volume control. Sound is similar, but the new Android 10 units seem to have a little bit more output power and volume.

Works good. No problem with vents. It only blocks them partially. System is fast. No wireless Android auto. Only wireless Apple carplay.

Thank you for the video. Does this unit and your other 9 inch Joying support the vehicle system settings such as TPMS calibration? Does it also support the factory bluetooth mic attached between the ceiling lights at the top? Does it also support my factory GPS antenna? I have a fully loaded 2020 CRV with factory GPS antenna.

I don't know. As I mentioned in the video I have only installed this in an LX model, which has none of those features. I have been told it does support all of the factory canbus functions like TPMS calibration. I doubt it supports the factory microphone or GPS antenna as this unit comes with its own antenna and microphone.

@@JackofAllMasterofNone Thank you so much for your reply. My 5.5 gen CRV has an indirect TPMS system in the stock head unit which measures the tire pressure through the ABS system. So, you've been told that the unit does support this feature? You've made me realize that I do not need to worry about the microphone as it already has a mic built in at the corner. I wish to use the factory GPS antenna but Joying told me that it's not possible so I would have to do exactly what you've done by installing it under the dash. I'm just trying to familiarize myself the some sacrifices I might have to make before finally deciding to make the purchase. Thank you.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by problem but the new Android 12 units do support more cellular bands in the USA so if that's what you are referring to it will work much better with an AT&t or T-Mobile SIM card

Install is the same basically. I prefer the 9 inch only because I like having the physical volume knob.

Either way. You can run online or offline gps programs on the head unit itself. Or can use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which uses yours phones GPS.

It does just a bit. Doesn't really cause an issue though. The little bit of coverage is unfortunately the price to pay for a huge screen.

I prefer the one with a physical volume knob. But Joying just released a new 10" updated version (link in the description) that has a physical volume knob and a large screen. It's the best of both worlds.

Great video!!! Ordered it after I watched your videos. Just installed this in my wife’s 2017. Apple CarPlay has to be synced every time she gets in the car. Am I missing a setting to make it connect automatically?

You have to open the app and then connect the phone. If you turn off car and then back on it should start automaticallly as long as the phone is still connected.

I have a 2017 EX and I tried every can bus option for a 2017+ CRV but I can't see where it tells you the oil life % anywhere. Also resetting maintenance reminders in XP mode doesn't do anything but it has a popup that asks if you want to reset in other can bus modes. There used to be a wrench icon in the info of the tachometer (shows oil life) but now it's missing and there's a blank icon that shows boost when selected which isn't an option on CRVs.

I found a workaround regarding the missing wrench icon in the gauge cluster. Go to Car Info -> Setup -> Vehicle Personalization -> Reset to initial values (when you click it the display in the gauge cluster will blink and the wrech and music icon will be displayed again. However it will disappear after a few seconds...kinda annoying 🤦‍♂️)

This model did not originally have wireless AA, but it is my understanding that the new Joying models do have wireless Android Auto.

Joying has updated the unit for 2022. It's the same basic hardware but even better because it now has the same size screen but also includes a physical volume button, which is something every has asked for.
