Tip: Start the engine and run it a few seconds, then shut it down, before checking the oil level. The oil filter is installed empty, once the engine runs and primes the filter, the level in the pan will drop a bit.

I never prefill filters, but youre welcome to, doesn't hurt at all. Just gives you oil pressure tiny bit faster. Just be sure not to overfill because sometimes the mounting location is at an angle. Sometimes you cant prefill at all when its mounted sideways 👍🏻

You do a good job. Like most mechanics, you misunderstand the idea for lubing the oil filter gasket. The gasket needs to slide against the mating surface. Otherwise, it may bind and bunch up while being installed leading to a large leak.

Taking the cover off might be a bit of a pain, but other than making your catalytic converter a sitting duck there isn't a HUGE reason to re-place it. I mean, road salt induced corrosion might be a good second reason to replace it, or maybe if you like to test the AWD... which I don't intend to. However despite the above reasons I'm gonna risk leaving it off for convenience sake... which if you do you can just scratch that first step for all future changes.

Filter on Left Drain on Right and do not DO NOT change any crush washers. Hand tighten both Filter & Drain. Again Do Not change any crush washers. 2015 Honda CRV has the original factory crush washer. I change my own oil and filter and my 2015 CRV never has leaked a drop of oil.

@JonnyDIY

Yes you can prefill this oil filter somewhat. To be honest on a regular vehicle with an oil filter like this it doesn't matter. Theres plenty of oil on parts and pressure builds so fast. Now on a big ole diesel yeah prefill. But oil changes are one of those things everyone does different 👍

Yes with this designed oil filter placement you could prime filter somewhat if you like. A lot of modern cars no longer allow you to due to filter placement being sideways

You MUST replace the crush washer every time you change the oil. Also very important to torque the drain plug to 30lbs MAX.

@@JonnyDIY Also something I just sat down for a few minutes to think through, if it isn't already something frequently covered that is, you can pretty readily estimate the conversion from imperial to metric sockets just recalling that 4mm=5/32" (roughly) it's closer to 1.26 thirty-seconds of an inch per millimeter but 1.25 isn't bad because 0.8 is a nice reciprocal to go from imperial to metric, and won't land you more than a millimeter or two off within an inch. Just a nice thing, started at the classical 2.54 cm/in and did conversions to find something practical.

@@carlovanrijk4039 yes it's a good idea to change every once and again at least. The soft aluminum ones do get compressed and require a little more torque each time which could theoretically lead to stripping of pan and or bolt 👍
