In this special edition of MC Commute, Zack rides BMW’s new-for-2017 RnineT Scrambler from Brooklyn’s ultra-hip Williamsburg neighborhood across to midtown Manhattan to see how it stacks up against the standard nineT and one of the most famous cities in the world.
--
It's no secret we're always trying to get our staff to work a little harder. Especially the ones that always seem to have too much to say. "Write it down!" the boss yells, exasperated. Senior Editor Zack Courts is a classic case, always arriving to office after his commute with a bunch of opinions about the bike he's riding. Too much this, not enough that, and occasionally has some decent insights that we thought might help consumers or entertain enthusiasts.
In this special edition of MC Commute, Zack rides BMW's new-for-2017 RnineT Scrambler from Brooklyn's ultra-hip Williamsburg neighborhood across to midtown Manhattan to see how it stacks up against the standard nineT and one of the most famous cities in the world.

Coolchris158 Not having a fuel gauge is for fucking plebs. Like, somehow certain bike designers get the bright idea that we have advanced beyond the need for knowing how much fuel we have in our tanks. Fuck those guys.

@janschkeuditz6065 3 года назад
I don't know about looking in the tank , I always had a fuel tap that you put to reserve ,so then you knew you needed fuel without running out. Not so good if your crossing a desert or stuck in the wilds in winter ...... Pointless to buy such an expensive and heavy bike to go scrambling . A 125 cc can do those speeds . This is the equivalent of a teenager buying Nike trainers ....

I own a 2022 r9t scrambler. And they aren't the best offroad, but I will tell you what it is super good at. I live in a very rural part of Alabama. The rough roads, and roads that turn to gravel, occasional dirt trails to get to where I need to go, and then still be able to hop on the highway and cruise comfortably at 80+mph. If you live in a similar place with variable road conditions and you dont want the typical adv bike and would like something different, then this, or the Triumph Scrambler handles these sorts of roads extremely well, while also looking amazing after you get to where you are going. I have zero regrets about my purchase and now find myself spending all my money just putting cool custom parts and accessories on it.

As someone who lives and works in NYC I see plenty of people on motorcycles and scooters lane split w/o getting a ticket. Hell I've nearly gotten hit riding my bike in the city by someone lane splitting on a motorcycle. So yes, you can - and will - get away with it. The streets are way too packed for cops to care. As long as you didn't hit a pedestrian or hurt yourself doing it they won't mess with you.

Back in 1997 my wife and I made a sojourn from NE Missouri to the southern coast of Maine. I know what you are thinking. That was a long way to go for a authentic bowl of clam chowder and a plate of fresh seafood. You my friend are very correct. Was it worth it? Most definitely. Yes, but I don't think that I will ever do it again. On the way we visited Gettysburg and totally avoided New York City. Coming back we saw some of the best scenery central Massachusetts has to offer. We noticed every church in Massachusetts sells maple syrup by the gallon. Back then the going price was $8 to $10 a gallon for home made maple syrup. I might go back for a few gallons of that liquid gold. Can you say yeehaa? I knew you could. We saw some relatives in Ohio while we were there. My family settled in the Cincinnati area after they arrived from Germany in the 1870's. My wife's family that we saw settled in the Columbus area. Had a good time meeting some of her family. All and all it was a good trip. Loved the show and the test drive. Take care. Vaughn

Great video Zack. Rhetorical question... How much did BMW "save" with that single clock? You still have to pay 13K for the bike. On a balance, I like the GS spoke wheels better than the standard R NineT spoke wheels. I don't care about the tank, steel is fine. I like the 19 inch front wheel, I don't like that it slowed down the front end. The seat... I don't know, I like the appearance of the scrambler better than the standard overall and the seat and the matte gray color on the tank, and the GS spoke wheels help. But at the end of the day, that's a personal taste issue. Now, they keep talking about another clock (with the tach) for the scrambler, but I've never seen it on photos or as options available. The air/oil cooled motor is fine, I don't like the smell of "cooked" motor oil you get from those motors every now and then. Interesting bike, I would like to have one in my garage.
