I think dodge is right that they will sell more v6 awd challengers however I think they are wrong about an awd v8 or hellcat not selling well. After a car has so much HP awd is almost a must!

I understand why this video exist and such, but this is just silly. Anybody who has a rwd car, and snow, and isn't an idiot will put snow tires on it. I'd much rather have a rwd challenger with good snow tires, than an awd challenger with all seasons, all day any day.

Thanks for the review. This car was a long shot for me to buy this year anyway, but it just left my shopping list. The whole point of these cars performance-wise is acceleration, and 305hp sounds like a lot, but I didn't see it in the review - seemed no faster than my current AWD (Passat w/275hp) and the exhaust note certainly sounded a lot worse than my car's W8 with its flat-plane crankshaft.

Are most RWD sports car owners driving in winter with all season tires? The demo set up by Dodge seems strange to me. All three cars would have the same winter tires in their sizes imho of an ideal demo.

A 305hp/268lb-ft tq AWD Grand Tourer. I think it's a great idea, the Pentastar v6's react well(for a newer engine) to basic bolt ons and a tune for those who want more power than stock, but still want decent fuel mileage and need the extra grip. It will never be an R/T or SRT, but I think it's a great alternative to the people who are on the fence between a an optioned out SXT or a base R/T.

When I bought my Challenger R/T 6 speed new in 09, the first thing I thought was, 'Man, this car NEEDS AWD!' It's a frigg'n handful even in the rain! Of course the newer models have redesigned suspension and better brakes, but still, I don't understand why the AWD Hemi cars didn't catch on. Maybe it's because of that gutless 5 speed AOD it was coupled to.. Imagine how fun this car would be, how usable it would be yr round, with a 6 speed manual, and AWD and 1 of the Hemi's? As food for thought, my 09 beats those V6 AWD mileage figures, btw... not by a lot, but it still does.

I'd like to see you guys do your own test of an AWD vehicle with all terrain tires versus a RWD with snow tires.

I've never been a big fan of the Challenger (I'd consider myself more of a Mustang guy), but with the AWD option and that shade of Jeep TJ yellow, I gotta say, it's pretty appealing.

The Hellcat doesn't need AWD, it needs slightly wider, stickier tires. Also, a few years ago, AWD was an option on the Charger R/T -- yes, with the 5.7 HEMI. I never understood why they stopped selling that package.

A better choice might be to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi. I'm glad to hear everyone is ok after that accident.

I'd really like to see all three with the same size wheels/tires and of the same brand model of tire - of course the AWD would still be better but would certainly be interesting to see if the other RWD two would be just a useless or just not as good as the Challenger.

Starts at 40,000 CAD here up north. I know it's AWD but still. A GT mustang is about the same price, however, so it depends what a buyer would value more.

you do not need awd you need snow tires. My old rwd Olds 98 with snows never got stuck and was the best car I ever driven in winter. I drive a snow plow in the winter so i have to drive to my plow before the roads are bladed. just get snow tires I live in Alberta Canada so i know snow and ice.

I'd like to learn more about the differences between this Dodge AWD system vs. a dedicated awd sportscar like the Nissan GTR. My dream video in the future will be Tesla vs. Challenger GT vs. Cayenne (maybe GTR)... in the snow, on the road and on the track.

First off none of these things are Sports cars. Two are pony cars the other a Muscle car.

I wondered what happened to this review. You had it up a day ago and took it down. Now it's back with a slightly different title.

You can find an SXT pretty loaded for $27-28,000. This car was almost $38,000 MSRP, pretty loaded also. So basically the GT emblem and AWD is costing you 10,000 dollars. Depends on what you want I guess.

I'm curious Roman. There's no snow in Colorado nor similarly equipped vehicles to conduct this test in your own backyard? Portland Maine seems a long way to go to find the same cars and climate conditions you have in the Rockies.

It's not the awd that matters in determining if it's a muscle car. It's the lack of a V8

I think an AWD Hellcat or V8 challenger should still be offered because you never know if that becomes more popular with the costumers than the V6 challenger.

This is a great promotional video for the new Challenger but I see no point in comparing an AWD car vs Rear wheel drive sports car. I think the better point is that the Mustang and Camaro did get going and were driveable in that snow. Not sure anyone would have died either... good video though.

The comparison is the GT Challenger AWD is a lot more expensive than the normal RWD v6 competition and competes with the competitions v8 RWD lineup.

A perfect car for my wife. Her old 2006 Mustang V-6 ( With winter Bilizzaks). Could not get up our drive way with only 4 inches of snow on it. Her 2017 GT Awd with all season tires. Had problems with over 14" inches of Mn snow. Great fun at stop lights taken off fast. On snow and ice. And the looks on 4x4 SUVs and pick truck owners faces. You can see they are thinking, how the hell. Is that Challenger taken off so fast on ice.

what about a convertible challenger? probably too heavy.

I am guessing that the all wheel drive option is not available on the v8 models because of warranty and durability issues. Same reason that dodge refuses to put a cummins in a Powerwagon.

i saw one of these the other day with a couple debadged guilican'tspellitalianwords Camaro's probably going to follow suit quickly. the ATS and CTS have AWD setups available.

I feel FCA missed the mark on this one. I really like the idea of an awd muscle car, but there are a couple of problems for me. I can live with the v6, but I need a manual transmission and the ability to turn off drive to the front wheels when I want to. Without that I just can't get excited about the car.

The question is can you throw out the v6, throw in a v8, and still keep the awd system?

shitbox. the unibody structure is almost 20 years old in that car. stop being cheap and redesign the damn thing already . a two wheel drive version of this car with a hemi , weighs as much as a 3 row crossover with AWD. ridiculous.

Why would they send three cars without snow tires to a snowy place? I was in Germany a few months ago and rented a 118i 5 door hatchback that is RWD and it had snow tires on it and handled well in the snow/wet.

I think the AWD chally will do pretty good in winter weather when driving normal. Obviously driving it like a race car in this weather like here its not going to do well. And when it comes to ice even a AWD tractor trailer wouldn't have much traction. Regardless AWD anything is better than rear wheel drive in winter weather. Just be a smart driver!

Dodge picked the wrong sized car to expand their AWD option. They also made a mistake IMO by dropping the Dart instead of developing an AWD version with enough HP to compete with the likes of the WRX, Focus ST, RS, and others. The Dart filled a nice niche as far as size, but FCA didn't seem to massage that model beyond the various "blacktop" and other cosmetics, and that probably contributed to its failure. The highest HP engine barely put out 180 horses, and the car in its segment was the doggiest in terms of performance. I personally think the time was right to bring out their rumored SRT version with AWD, 280hp, price it at--or less than this Challenger GT--and it would have been a home run or, at least far more of a hit than adding AWD to an already tired model.

Since when did a windshield become a "windscreen"? I've been hearing that more and more lately. Thought that was a British term.

This v6 model is simply an easy way for Dodge to test the market, reliability of there AWD chassis system and see how many of there customers will want a GT-R killer.

I'd be interested in seeing the power limits of the AWD as I believe it's the real reason they aren't offered for v8/hellcat powerplants. being a Subaru guy myself I tell you as a fact the 5speed WRX is a glass compared to its STI 6speed brother... the STI 6speed swaps start at $4k for used parts but you can see stock sti transmission cars clicking off 8s in the 1/4 mile on RU-vid. Mopar could be a world beater if they get a lightweight stripped out challenger hellcat mated with AWD that holds power and can launch. maybe take notes from gwrc 600awhp teams or Ken Blocks hoonacorn 65mustang v1 845awhp or v2 1400 crank

Its nice for the FCA Rep to say that the v6 is the biggest seller, but if FCA is concern about AWD not selling, then do as I had to do. I built my Challenger SRT on line and waited 8 weeks for it. Sell to only the people that want to buy a SRT, Hellcat or Demon in an AWD. FCA problem is transferring the power through the converter for anything more then a v6. I have driven this car and it does ok on dry mountain roads. If you take a Camaro, Mustang and Challenger GT and they are all v6, the Challenger out handles all of them. Its not just a snow car. Where I live, the Troopers have Chargers V8 AWD and they are good, about 80hp more. The Grand Jeep Cherokee SRT AWD has many problems with its converter, imagine a Hellcat or Demon.

I have a 2014 300C JVL AWD 5.7 Hemi and I love it here in WI . V8 power and torque with AWD !

I don't see a point in sticking a v6 with less power than some i4 engines into this and giving it AWD. Rear bias sounds great - but this is not a charger. People buy this car as a muscle car and using that v6 completely defeats the purpose imho. I assume the pricing of this car will be higher than the standard v6 - so why not increase the price a bit more and get the power too.

I love how all traction controls are turned off on each car.
