2017 Dodge Durango R/T: Test Drive

That's true on the rotary I was ok with it never had a problem and really had a feel for gears after 3years of owning an RT but once I got a SRT with the hand shifted totally changed my mind on comfort and ease of mind.

Looks amazing.

Not sure on a few things he said in the review. I have a Durango RT and it's great. One thing is he really didn't mention or use the paddle shifters. They work quite well and help you get up to the Peak HP RPM which is around 4000. Second, if he has not figured out that rotary shifter, then he shouldn't be testing cars. I have 90,000 on my Durango and it has never rolled, not hard to hit the P with the dial and use the park break. Also the battery is not in the back, it is under the passenger seat. I have the Alpine system and the sound system is in the back under the panel along with the wheel jack tools. The only other color an RT interior comes in is Black. Mine does full voice to text through Siri and and I tell Siri through the car to play a list or song and it does it through the blue tooth. I am a user experience designer and the general consensus on the info system on Chrysler cars is that its better then most as far as usability. I also raced cars for 16 years so I am a car buff. I would much rather drive my Durango then my wifes Mercedes. A cold air intake from K&N or Mopar helps too! Believe me :)

Great review as always. In regards to the MPG of your reviews, do you use the car's computer or do you manually calculate it using how many miles driven divided by how many gallons you filled? In my experience the car's computer is always overly optimistic in terms of the MPGs.

I'm glad to see a reviewer who acknowledges the shifter, I'm still wondering why Dodge did that. And the battery is under the front passenger seat.

Great review. I'm not a big fan of the red leather, maybe if it were Black leather with red contrast stitching would be nicer!

Throwback Thursday

Took a ride in one. Not overly impressed. Made a lot of noise accelerating, but I didn't really feel the urgency. Seats were hard and slippery, will beat you up over a long drive. Curious, since it's an SUV, why didn't you take it on the desert washboard road?

The battery is under the RF seat , not in the rear .

I have a 2014 RT. You feel everyone bump on the road. I love that it comes with decent-looking rims and a decent sound system, but I don't like that you can't open the 2nd row bench seat to get out if you're sitting in the 3rd row. The people in the 3rd row should be able to put down the 2nd row seat themselves instead of being at the mercy of other passengers. Also, the seats look good but are crap when it comes to comfort. Our kids aren't very comfortable in it so long trips get complaints. When going downhill (not a steep hill) my car feels like it's braking on it's own even though I'm not pressing on the brakes and then to get it out of that, I have to tap the gas to take back control. It's easy to handle on the road and the rear camera is cool. I love the space it provides when I lower the seats for shopping or moving furniture, recyclables, etc I don't like the 2 back doors being so wide so when u open it, you can easily hit cars next to you so you have to squeeze out even if you're skinny. Overall it's a really nice car, but the things that matter a lot to me personally are lacking. My husband however, loves this car. Me..I'm ready to trade it in for a safer and more comfortable SUV. Also fyi if your key fob gets wet and no longer works you have to pay $300 for a new one.

It's perfect other then the gear shifter . That's a deal breaker for me . I hate not having a shifter . DO THEY HAVE OPTION FOR REGULAR SHIFTER ?

While Dodge has gotten rid of the rotary shifter, Ford seems to be bringing it back. The 2018 Expedition has one as well as the 2017 Fusion.

You can pick anything apart if you're looking for it. The things people complain about these days. You're short,, and keep your seat low, so you cant see the hood. Maybe raise the seat some? I have a Durango R/T, I can see the hood just fine.
