My 2022 Lariat, I have OCR enabled on it and love it. My 2024 however won’t allow OCR to be enabled but it also is a better active system. At least when it does regen, it only fills the filter to 50% which takes about 8 miles to cook off. Also if in regen and power is shut off, it resumes the current regen cycle on next power up. My 2022 would not resume, it would just start refilling the filter until 100% full.

Nice. I haven’t dealt with anything other than my 2017 so I don’t know anything about how they work. It’s good that they have updated the systems some. And the way it won’t resume on a restart like that is why I try to do them as static when I can. Like to make sure it’s always fully cleaned when it needs it. Thanks for the comment!!

When I put the Banks 5 inch cat back on. The OCR only takes 18 minutes. The 82 percent increase of flow helps for power and regen.

That's some crazy stuff right there! Just got myself a 2019 6.7L and have been reading up on this DPF business. Coming from a 7.3L I didn't know anything about this system. I believe the manual says that driver input is not necessary and that the regens are automatic...is that not the case? So 4 days after buying the truck I get a damn CEL with a DTC of P2002, which as you know is the DPF system. Guess I'm off to the dealer...just glad I'm still under warranty!
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 11 месяцев назад
Congrats on the new 6.7. Great engines. The regens are automatic if you drive a lot on the interstate. They need non-stop travel for it fully clean the DPF. If you stop the truck the regen ends and it doesn't get to fully clean the filter. At the very least you should turn on the DPF percentage so you know the level of "fullness" that it is currently at. I setup OCR on my truck because there is sometimes that I'm only doing short drives and it is nice to be able to do a manual DPF clean. Knowing that the filter is back to zero percent when its done. Keeps those P2002's from surprising you. Warranty or not, truck still has to go to the shop which means downtime for you. The OBD2 reader is like 30 bucks, Forscan is free, and that is 100% worth the piece of mind that my truck is going to be doing what it should be when I need it to rather than it being laid up at the dealer getting fixed.. ;) Thanks for comments and good luck!

@@rigobeltran9649 You can download a copy of Forscan at forscan.org/ . Make sure you do your research and understand how it works and what is needed before you start trying to change things. It is pretty straightforward once you understand but you can mess things up pretty bad if you just go at it all willy nilly. Again, fully research what you need to do BEFORE you start doing things to the truck. There are spreadsheets out there with all the codes and such you need to know. As well, there are thousands of youtube videos out there explaining what needs to happen. Good luck.

Hey man, thanks for the video. I’m considering to buy a 6.7 power stroke, but I don’t drive on highway daily. If you had to guess, what percentage of your miles has to be highway miles in order to keep the system “clean”? Thanks!
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 7 месяцев назад
Normally it will take about 20 to 30 mile nonstop to get the DPF fully cleaned. I don't drive on the interstates too much myself these days which is why I enabled the OCR stuff. With it enabled (like I show in the video) you don't really need to drive it to clean it. Just pull off some where safe and manually run it when it's full. Works like a champ. Let me know if you have other questions and I'll do my best to help if I can. Thanks for the question and comment!! Good luck!

That should not be the case.. Pretty much any 2017+ Ford Super Duty with the 6.7 diesel in it can do this. You have to use Forscan to enable everything or a dealer may (or may not) do it for you. But other than that, they all should support it. Thanks for the comment.

Thomas, I have a 2019 F450 that has an engine light and I plugged in a code reader and says the DPF is damaged or needs to be cleaned. Only have 11,000 miles on it so Im thinking Im not driving it enough. I just went out to the truck and can't access any of the items you show in your video. Its like my truck is dumbed down. Do I need to Code reader with he usb cable you showed to plug into a laptop to tell the truck to regen? Thanks in advance. Great video
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 2 года назад
Hey JS, yes, you need to have an USB OBD2 reader. The one I showed is the recommended one from Forscan. Forscan is a software that will allow you to change settings in the trucks onboard computers to make different things happen. One of which is the ability to turn on the OCR features that I show in the video. I would suggest searching RU-vid for Forscan tutorials. As well there are spread sheets with all of the codes and such to make the changes to turn on all of the OCR stuff on the internet. It's actually pretty straight forward once you take the time to understand it. Based on my experience with my truck, the DPF filter will need to be cleaned once about every one to one and half tanks of fuel. If you drive for longer (20-30 miles) distances (non-stop) the truck should clean the filter all on it's own. If you are only driving short distances the truck will not be able to get the filter fully cleaned and you start to run into issues. That's why I turned on OCR myself. You can get a free demo license for Forscan at forscan.org. You need the full version of Forscan for windows as well, the lite version won't do what you need. Hope this helps and feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 2 года назад
After re-reading you comment, I'm going to say that you might need to go the dealer and have them do a manual clean for you. Once the filter reaches 120% the OCR stuff won't work and it has to be forced by some special tool that the dealer techs have. Being your engine light is on you might be over the limits and Forscan won't be able to help solve this current issue. Still worth doing so you know the status going forward though. Good luck.

Hey, it is something that has to be enabled after the fact. It is not turned on by default. If you search on RU-vid for something like "enabling Ford OCR" you should find the method for enabling it. You need an OBD2 reader like I showed in my video as well as a copy of Forscan (which you can download for free at forscan.org) on a windows laptop. You could also try a Ford dealer service center and see if they will enable it for you as well. They may or may not do it for you. But it's actually a pretty straight forward process once you understand how it all works. Hope this helps some and thanks for the comment. Good luck.

I just performed this OCR in my driveway. After it was complete and the engine idled down. I tried taking it for a drive and upon take off and braking to a stop the engine acted as if it were going to cut out and die but it would always stay alive. Drives fine but idles at 500rpm. What’s wrong?
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy Год назад
Hey, I've never had that issue before with mine. After the DPF clean completes, I will always drive it around a little bit to help things cool off some as it gets pretty hot during the cleaning process. Did it fully clean the DPF back down to zero percent in the read out? And other than the low idle does everything else seem like it's working as it should be? I'm not really sure what the issue could be as I am not a diesel mechanic. I just know how mine behaves and I've never had any issues what so ever. A little bit of white smoke when it starts which goes away pretty quick, it does its thing and I drive off like normal. What model/miles and year is your truck? Has it thrown any codes or anything? Do you notice anything out of place like high engine oil temps or anything? Was that the first time you've done one of the static cleans like that? I would suggest that you post about it on one of the Super Duty forums on Facebook to see if anyone else has had this type of issue. I'd be interested in knowing what (if anything) you find out. Good luck.

@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 2 года назад
Hey, from what I've read, some white smoke is normal. Mine does it as well. Not massive amounts but it does smoke. Usually only happens right when I start it off, after about 3-5 minutes the smoke stops. As for the smell in the cab, I always keep my windows up and it's never been a problem. Are you doing a manual regen when it smokes like that? And does it complete the regen, meaning your exhaust percentage goes back to 0%? Keep in mind, I am not a super duty mechanic or anything.
@natehawkins2910
@natehawkins2910 Год назад
@@dahoodieguy the “white smoke” is merely DEF vapor. During regen, the DEF system is pumping nearly 100% of capacity to the DEF injector to reduce nox because EGR is cut off during regen due to fuel dumping and the elevated EGTs. So, once it gets thoroughly hot in the DOC (located after the DPF/downstream) those vapors aren’t visible anymore since EGTs are then near 1100 inside the DOC.

@dahoodieguy 2 месяца назад
Yes, There is two parts to it.. Sounds like you got the second one done. The first one is to add the percentage screen to the display. That is where you actually start the manual regen process from. Don't know where you are getting your settings from but on my sheet there is one called "Add DPF Filter % to screen" which is under IPC 720-07-02 and another for "Enable Auto-Regen Checkbox" which is on the plain english side.
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 2 месяца назад
Here is now I see it on my sheet. Don't know how this is going to come through but here it is... Add DPF Filter % to screen IPC 720-07-02 x7xx xxxx xFxx xxxx This adds the DPF % screen to the Truck Information screen. Some trucks will report a camera error after making this modification. To avoid this, update according to the following: If original default value is 0, change to 8; if 1, change to 9; if 2 then A; if 3 then B; if 4 then C; if 5 then D; if 6 then E, if 7 then F.

Does it have to be at a certain percentage? Because I just downloaded for scan and I added the features but I cannot unselect the auto regen after I’ve added it.
@dahoodieguy
@dahoodieguy 2 года назад
Yes, it has to show FULL in the DPF filter screen to start a regen. Once you are in park with the parking brake set (and the engine is upto temp), it will show the option to hold down "OK" to start the cleaning process. It will then ask you to make sure everything is clear around you and to hold "OK" again. After that it starts. If you touch the brake pedal it will stop it. As for the auto regen button, there are two steps to that if I remember correctly. One is to make the option show up on the screen and the other is to actually enable it so you can turn it off and on. One is in the IPC and the other is in PCM. Both are the plain english sections, not all the hex code stuff. Here is how they say it in the code sheet I have.. "Enable auto regen in IPC and select option 3 under "DPF manual regeneration" in PCM (not as built)." Hope this helps!!

I'm not 100% sure. My truck does not do that. I've read that one of the latest recalls (20E07 I think it is) that reflashes the PCM will cause this and I will not let them do that one on my truck just yet. I believe it does have something to do with the exhaust system (NOx levels or something) but again, I'm not 100% sure. But I am 100% sure that a DPF regen will not start automatically (keyword) while the truck is in park. If you have the DPF percentage setup in your truck, watch it while it's idling at 1k and see if the percentage decreases or not. I'm willing to bet that it won't. Thought I'd post you an update. I was reading some posts on the FB Super Duty forms this morning and happened to run across a good explanation for what you are seeing with the idle up. Figured I'd post it for you. "The exhaust aftertreatment does not work properly when cold. The DOC cannot convert HC and the SCR cannot convert NOx. These constituents accumulate in the exhaust or slip through and cause pollution. The elevated idle will result in a proper working aftertreatment and burn off of accumulated constituents." Hopes this helps explain better why it's doing that.

Because I was only driving for a short distance. I was actually parked right around the corner from the place I was staying at. And doing a automatic regen requires me to be driving non-stop for like 20 to 40 miles. If you stop during that time the regen will end.
