Meanwhile every Ford dealership is sold out of their Raptors for 5k over sticker. It looks like the people that can actually afford these aren't spending their time in RU-vid's comment section.
@k3v015Mk
@k3v015Mk 7 лет назад
I was thinking the same thing. All the negativity in these comment sections towards the new Raptor, and yet every Ford dealer I've been to seems like they sell them as quick as they get them in. That's also with the crazy markups over msrp.

Which is weird because the fast lane truck just traded their raptor in because they couldn't sell it
@SawBlood45

nowadays you can get a gen 1 raptor at like half retail when it passes 100k miles. Even better, the people that could afford these just needed it to get from the office to the house, some have never seen dirt. Kinda reminds me of the Hummer fad. But these are much better than those of course.

Damn lots of ecoboost haters! I have been getting a new Raptor every 2 years since they came out. If you ignore the sticker shock you might realize the resale value is CRAZY on these trucks. More than ANY other truck. Difference from trade value to a new one has been between $4500-$9000 on mine after 2 years! What other new truck of this caliber cost you only between $200-$375/month to own? NOTHING. Plus the 3.5 ecoboost is really fast stock and especially with a tune :) I like it. My old V8s sounded better and if i kept the trucks longer than 3-4 years i'd rather have something less complicated than the ecoboost but there is no other truck as fun to drive as the Raptor. They are an absolute blast. The new Ram is nicer than any 1/2 ton truck by far. Almost bought one this time but could not get past how much fun the Raptor is to drive. It turns heads too. Everyone loves the Raptor. Never had one single issue with any of mine.

I've not driven one yet. I know they have good resale, but that's AWESOME. Thank you for this info. It's very helpful. I presently have an F350 and tow a 40 ft 18k toyhauler. I'm looking to downsize, but have a hard time thinking about getting a half ton. I'm a solid axle man my whole life. I still have my previous overbuilt F250 that can haul anything needed.

@@brada1997 Update: My 2019 had 3 transmissions break before the first oil change. I traded it in for a ROUSH F250 diesel. I LOVED driving the Raptors. They were super fun but terrible for towing. Suspension is too soft and i can no longer trust that 10 speed after it shifted into 1st gear on its own at 70mph multiple times and shot oil all over the highway.

Just went and picked up a 6x12 enclosed trailer today with my 2015 2WD V8 F150, got 19.8mpg on the interstate (70mph) on the way to the guy's house, and 10 on the way back. Empty trailer. Truck was even shifting down to 4th gear in some cases to maintain 70. And this is minimal hills in northern Florida. It's insane how much difference towing a shed makes on your fuel economy. I once towed my friend's car on a car dolly (~4,000# vs this trailer's 1200#), and I averaged ~16mpg on that same interstate.

@RWT2777 7 лет назад
Our trailer is a small 16' Jayco travel trailer. It weighs about 2900 lbs. loaded with 30 gallons of water and supplies. I have the SuperCrew cab 2017 raptor and it pulls it like it's not even attached. Love it. Pulling my trailer in "SPORT" mode and still blowing away the average car on acceleration is funny as hell. Driving conservatively on completely flat roads I average about 11.5 mpg towing what equates to a flat brick wall in the wind. Of course terrain and how windy it is affect the MPG, but that's what we've averaged each time we've gone on vacation with it. Also, as for MPG... I could really care less. That's not why I bought a Raptor. It's SPG all day (Smiles Per Gallon)!!! My license plate reads: CARNVR :D

Did they reveal the CAT scale weight? Curious to see how close they were to GCWR. I'm thinking with two of them in Raptor on scales they should be about 1300-1500lbs under GCWR. Also I've read the GCWR for the SuperCrew Raptor was 14,250lbs on tfltruck site and on fords site. Yet the video says 14,080 lbs? What did it say in the door jamb?

@Fordguy1997
@Fordguy1997 7 лет назад
Well, I'm actually wondering about that too. I agree with you about it being convenient to leave the keys in the car, but it would seem that anyone could unlock the vehicle with smart key access since the key is in proximity. However, the main reason they still have the keypad is so you can go out to your car without the keys and still get something in it. I'll have to look into it more, to see if the car realizes the fob is inside the doors and stays locked.
@lmychajluk
@lmychajluk 7 лет назад
Not a Raptor, but I have an F150 w/ the SmartKey. it knows the difference between the key being in proximity vs. in the truck, so you can lock the key in the truck w/ the keypad. If you have the key with you, the doors unlock when you touch the door handle. If the key is in the truck, you can only unlock it with the code on the keypad.

It's the parasitic drag not the weight that kills towing fuel economy. The flat plate drag on an enclosed trailer is worse than an open trailer with a load of the same weight.

My fob is always in my zip close cargo pocket and therefore practically zero chance of losing it, getting wet, etc. I've also used Forscan to disable the stupid panic alarm button so it doesn't accidentally get pressed in my pocket, as well as enabled "secure idle" so the truck cannot be put into gear if it's left running but the fob isn't in the cab. Getting into your badass truck and never having to touch a key, is just awesome.

@TFLtruck

+mike matthews Andre meant - about 2 inches of squat was the best we could do with Raptor. It's not great, but it was the best we could do after adjusting the hitch.
@brada1997
@brada1997 3 года назад
Don't fluff your skirt too much. The Tundra pales in every regard to any American half ton. The Raptor has supple suspension to soak up bumps, giving it lower capacity, so I think 2 inches is respectable. My F250 squats maybe 1-1.5 inches with 9k, depending on load placement....so does that make your Tundra a weakling? No. Different trucks for different uses.
@mathews0618
@mathews0618 3 года назад
Brad A I understand that. Squatting 2" for a 9,000 lb trailer is fine. The tundra rear is designed for ride control. So its not really a stretch to say the raptor and tundra squat would be similar. I am not saying its better, i am saying that they are a little biased against the toyota.

What i'm saying is that is that the test isn't needed. People who already have Raptors know that it has crap fuel economy to begin with, so they should already know that hooking a 7,000 lb trailer is just going to make it worse, so why bother seeing what kind of MPG it gets with a trailer.

It’s a raptor, meant for the dunes and hitting jumps, its not the standard F-150 that’s built for this, and its not a 2500.....its a light duty 🤦‍♂️

I think they should of stuck with the 6.2 v8. Having that small v6 with turbos just makes it have more that can go wrong with it. V8 had plenty of HP and was just a basic motor with a lot less done to it than the ecoboost.
@ponygt6629
@ponygt6629 7 лет назад
wrong,. Fords DOHC V8s have 2 big issues 1. Top heavy design 2. high CG 3. 11% more weight than a downsized turbo motor
@txrebelredneck3961
@txrebelredneck3961 7 лет назад
Still not a big fan of a turbo charged v6 vs a normally aspirated v8 for an offroad truck. Maybe a modified 5.3 a proven good engine. I think it would be better having a basic v8 vs having a souped up v6 that could have more things go wrong. Really not trying to pick a fight just stating an opinion and I'm open to others opinions.

I don't think there any thing to be worried about. The engine was designed for the ground up to be turbochaged. It has forged internal and the block is very strong. The turbos do add some complexity and will wear out eventually ( around 200,000 miles) but its designed well. They do have a valve carbon build up issue but its a simple fix

If you buy this, you are not concerned with fuel economy. No other truck on the market can offroad like this while being able to hit 0-60 in 5 seconds putting sports cars to shame in a straight line.
@Webcrawler45

the fuel economy does not hurt though...
@junehhan

You are correct, but I have owned many performance vehicles over the years and it always amazes me how a few get upset about the fuel economy. On this Raptor, it is doing what one might expect of a vehicle with an off road suspension, upgraded driveline, and huge tires. I suspect the 2018's with the 3.0 litre Powerstroke will champion those who need better towing fuel economy than off road prowess.

You exceeded the payload capacity of that truck
@jakeschmidt7977
@jakeschmidt7977 7 лет назад
No they didnt. There's 1200lbs of payload on the raptor supercrew. That SAE approved rating allows 150lbs+150lbs for driver and passenger and a full tank of gas. These two guys are prob 450 lbs together. So you take the allowed 300lbs and subtract 450, the weight of those two guys together only subtracts 150 lbs from the payload. WDH subtracts 75lbs, and at 10% tongue weight which mr. truck is famous for, that's 700 lbs. So the math is 1200-150-75-700= 275 lbs of payload capacity left.
@leje-zj4dr
@leje-zj4dr 7 лет назад
Jake Schmidt there are a lot of optimistic assumptions here. Also, I thought SAE only allows 150 lbs for the driver. Finally, both of these guys passed 150 lbs long ago.
@jakeschmidt7977
@jakeschmidt7977 7 лет назад
Yeah exactly, they are 450 lbs together in my calculations. BUT - Looking at Fords Truck Payload PDF, you're right, the Curb weight of a F-150 includes a full tank of gas but does not include passengers. So you do subtract 450 lbs for driver and pass from 1200 payload leaving you with 750 lbs. Then subtract the tongue weight on the hitch, 700 lbs, and then the WDH 50 lbs, and yeah basically they used all their payload up. But they're still under allowed GVWR. And under GCWR.

@chesterbland6551

No one is really going to tow 7,000 pounds with a truck every day or weekend. I'd like to see regular every day things being towed on the towing test like a boat or maybe a double axle trailer with 1 or 2 atvs on. Most people will not own a trailer that size or will even tow that much
@Saki630
@Saki630 7 лет назад
wtf? You just saw it did ~8.4 mpg. If you tow less weight, it will be greater than 8.4 mpg. If you have less drag and lower weight it will be even greater. If the weight is more and the drag is higher, it will be even less!

A lot of people say "oh no one tows with their raptor" yes they do. They tow their SxS, their camp trailers, their boats, their crawlers. ALOT. Drive out to Moab or to any lake out west and count up the raptors with trailers. SOOO many raptors with trailers. It doesn't even take a 7000 lb trailer to make the mpg tank. Jalopnik recently used a raptor to tow a flat fender Jeep on a trailer from Moab to Michigan (maybe 4000 lbs) and it averaged 9.4 mpg. Not that im complaining, cause then you have a raptors and toys, but to say that towing isn't part of the raptor experience is kinda silly. Not to single you out, more generally speaking.

That fuel mileage computer isn't off by anymore than your unscientific method. In fact, the computer is measuring every single injection of fuel into the engine. I would believe the computer over your method. How do you think they calculated remaining fuel in Apollo 13? Computer measurements. And, another thing 8.8 is bad. My 2004 Titan got 11 with 7500lbs of boat and trailer.
@npsit1
@npsit1 7 лет назад
Umm, Ford can modify the computer to say whatever they want. The speedometer could also be wrong. Do you really think that Ford designed a system for the truck to weigh the fuel tank? Gonna have to say no on that. The amount of fuel used is typically a calculation based on the RPM because the computer is programmed with the flow rate of the injectors. It has the fuel pressure sensor and the amount of time each injector is open so it can extrapolate the amount of fuel flowing through the injectors are any given speed. Besides, you can't change the actual distance they drove - which the computer may say is 97.5 or 98.5 and not 98 - or change the actual amount of fuel put back into the tank when you always fill it up at the same pump using the same method. Sure it's not 100% precise, but it's less fallible than the computer system.

Did your Titan have 450 hp and 510 lb-ft tq with offroad tires,I think not,8.8 is damn good Also this Raptor weighs almost 6,000 lbs
@boss123400

npsit1 If they want a lawsuit of gigantic proportions, they can modify the software if it's even written by them. Some vehicles weigh the tanks others calculate volumetric fuel injections. Here's an article by Wards Auto explaining what would happen if they modified the software. And, in no way, is the way they put fuel into the tank accurate. It's within the derivation that should be expected.

2016 Shelbygt350R No. But the raptor only weighs about 250lbs more than my Titan and my boat and trailer weighs 500lbs more than their trailer. So, you're blaming it on off-road tires and higher hp? It doesn't need to make full power all the time right? It was a pretty flat run. Some thing's are going backwards here.
