I own a newer Duramax (not the newest version) and the location of the DEF fill is not an issue under the hood. I have been getting +5000miles per tank and it's so simple to pop the hood and fill up that I just don't get the complaint from these guys. On average it's gonna need filled up 2-3 times per year and can be topped off with each oil change while the hood is already up. Other than this non issue complaint great review TFLtruck
Surely the engines Torque output is restricted in the lower gears not to reduce wheel spin but to protect the transmission and drive components as low gearing increases torque. If the engine produces 900 lbs ft at 1700 rpm and the wheels are revolving 170 rpm the torque will be 9000 lbs ft applied to the wheels divided by the number of driven wheels.
With all the added tech, egr def large incinerator styled exhaust systems lol. it would be cool if y'all got with some different 3rd party mechanics or engineers to do a break down and explain which of the big 3 have the best system for longevity without clogging up or breaking down with an explanation to why.
To the guy that says GM got its knowledge from Saab regarding turbos, you might need to check your facts. GM messed w turbos 25 years or so before ford. 1962 for Chevy/Buick and I think 84 or so for the SVO mustang. Then GM came back with the Buick and Typhoon/syclone pickup. They trounced anything Ford had, and the trucks were only 6 cylinders.
Amen Jason! I believe it was Olds and Chevy in 1962. Ford is still pretending they reinvented the wheel. Ironically, the Grand National never had near the issues that Ford's Ecobust has...and those are 30 years old now!
Ya know. It always worries me when a new engine comes out on the market or when a engine is beefed up, because I know there is durability issues with engine at higher mileage over 200,000 miles. Personally it would be nice to here these manufactures put a durable test figure to make me feel better about the new or beefed up engines. My thinking is these new massive torque engines is that they may have break down issues in the near future. I love to watch these new trucks get down and dirty with engine torque. Great videos YFL team
Good point what you do is detune the motor and destress it. My 6.0 psd is over 420000 no engine issues original head bolts. I use the superchips tuner.
I hate the def location and it boggles my mind why it's still there. It always gives me pause when driving around the worksite in my LML. So its an automatic negative for customer experience when I'm always worried about a stick pokeing a hole in it.. At least they offer a factory skid plate now. I really hope an Aftermarket solution will come out, easy enough to move the tank location. The fill spout I can deal with but the tank being where it is, is just stupid. The wax frame is a major downside, so when I buy them I just take it straight from the dealer to be undercoated.
Darien Seminoff I agree I hate the DEF tank in that spot. I traded my 2011 for a Ram 2014 3500. Just because of that damn DEF location. Also I don't like when you drive A lot like I do you never know how low your DEF is. In the Ram it has a gauge which is convenient for me. But still that Denali is a good looking rig.
"This truck is viewed as a luxury truck" nowadays, I still prefer a truck that has power, can tow, has weight, and can kick the ass end out when you need it to without assistance of a slippery surface. Work trucks that I've seen and drove are bone basic and has power, and they weren't 80k brand new. and besides 80k for a brand new truck that is a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton who the hell is going to pay for that?!?! better off going with an older truck with a diesel in it.
Do you save any money by going with the less capable HD truck? Admittedly I like the looks of this truck and doubt I would need anymore capability than it offers, but if I can get more for the same money, why not?
GM went in with International Harvester for a truck to compete with the Ford F650 & F750. You should have asked this GM engineer how that project is coming along and when will the truck be shown.
I have nothing against GM trucks and actually kind of like them, but as they pretty much admitted, Ford and Ram are designed for extreme work towing while GM trucks are designed more towards luxury with decent towing capabilities. I use trucks for work so if I had $70,000 to spend on a truck I would get a less than top of the line Powerstroke. I still like the Duramax though.
see to all the haters that will argue nobody is towing 30,000 pounds and gm is still going to take this like always cause they put there powertrain down correctly like always and will take ike gauntlet
If you are asking as far as the capabilities they can do the exact same thing. As far as looks thats a matter of opinion, but most like the look of the Denali better. The denali is quite a bit more expensive compared to the colorado though.
The ford has more torque, better DEF tank location, e-coated frame and in my opinion looks better and has a higher quality interior also ford did not have to get bailed out by the government
The purchase price isn't the only cost to consider, insurance will drain any cash left over and you're wallet will be empty for many years. That's an issue regardless of manufacturer. .
Militaries vehicles | the lowest traction 0.7g, extreme tail flick, extreme slide, 20-100 l/100km, over 100 l/100km with maximum test by wider rear track than front track chassises. From databass
The diesel truck was much slower, but got better gas mpg under full load than the gas engine. However if you put both trucks on the test with identical weight trailers, and had the gas truck following the diesel, the results would be interesting. I have a feeling the gas truck would get better mpg then it did if all it had to do was keep up with the diesel truck. Considering the increase in diesel cost, I bet the cost per mile loaded isn't much at all.
I can’t stand how similar the interior of the suburban/Yukon XL is to the Silverados/Denali’s. Exact same. Come on. Mix it up a little bit.. very lazy and uncreative and I have a 87 Chevy.
It's a nice looking truck, I don't think it's $70,000 nice. It's kinda hard to justify that for a farm truck to beat on. And that DEF tank is in a bad location when it sits below the frame a touch. I'd probably have that ripped off the first time across the field. That's my biggest gripe with the new Duramax.
callofdutyguy9 You could buy a couple of older semis for that price. Even a couple of decent older Petes or KWs. Older semis are gonna take a bit to maintain, insure, be subject to DOT regulations... some of which you could get around with a pickup, but in my area, I could by a really nice house or 15 acres of good farm ground. So many other things that won't take the depreciation hit that truck will when you sign on the dotted line.
I know they just made this trucks for that big part of the segment but come on gm u used to build trucks that could handle more than they supposed to I love GM BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY want to take the backseat when it comes to they trucks especially with all the competition
I'm a big fan of the GM's interiors. My buddy has a 2015 Silverado and I would much rather have his interior than my 2016 F150's. The cab size is the only reason I went with the Ford.
No 6.6l but 3.0 in 2021 model year. Yes GM being stupid not to drop one in the 2500 series burbs in the early 2000s but Ford drop in the 7.3 6.0 strokers in their excursions.
wow. what an answer! gm not following claim pulling capacities. Roman, I bet you, compare suspension components between ford and garbage motors. You will find gm components are weak. that is why they cant compete vs ford and dodge.
2017 $70k truck and no push to start. Something small that should be standard on a Denali. And it still looks outdated compared to the 1500 series. Not impressed.
Dang it, Ronin (spelling?) - stop saying the duramax is class leading or most powerful. That's annoying the begeezus outta me. It's close, but definitely not leading the class in power. That said, I definitely dream of the Silverado Midnight edition with the Duramax.
Well, I watched this to see what's new. GM y'all failed again, keep your Frito big scoop hood. Why run it on the ike gauntlet? 24k pounds, wtf is that?
A full 5 more horsepower is mere an advertising number, power stroke beats torque. Its sad how much GMC has to advertise and come up with advertising numbers such as the 5 extra horsepower. Notice you see few Ford or Ram ads, they don't have to advertise to sell trucks, there just good enough as they are. Also GM's independent front suspension is not very tough in my opinion. Coil spring is a much better system. (for a truck) Ford also now has an aluminum body, which has allowed many needed upgrades to be done to the truck while not adding a lot of weight. Lets talk frames, ford and ram have e coated, paint sticks better, less rust, holds up fine. GM, not so much. Fully boxed yeah, but the 2017 ford super duty has that covered. Id drive a ford xl over the truck featured in this video.
I'm not sure where you have been, but it seems like before every RU-vid video is a Ford ad about "Are you considering the Silverado/Ram? What you should actually get is a F150. IMO these ads are almost as bad as the GM 'real people, not actors' ads.
Y'all arestupid if you think I'm talking about horsepower numbers and torque numbers really? Duramax has been the number one diesel now for the last f****** 10 years. As a matter fact they're now using on the end of next Generation Hummer. Duramax has and always will be the most reliable engine if you're basing your data off numbers on a piece of paper than your the fool and once they do the ike gauntlet competition and it's Ford versus GM..? Duramax will rise again mark my words.. They always do. The sad part is how many upgrades did it take for that piece of s*** Powerstroke to finally catch up to the LML Duramax? I don't know I lost count
It's funny how you forward f****** always come to a GM page to bash their trucks why don't you still there with your piece of s*** Fords.. Oh, because y'all are scared about what the competition is bringing right.
That air intake sucks. A thousand miles traveling on dirt roads and the air filter serves more. Totally ridiculous. A friend is already living that nightmare. Gmc 👎🏼
larry Spiller What services does gmc recommend every 1000 miles? That air intake pointing forward sucks 10 times more shit. stupid. Only gmc comes up with such a silly thing. Buy yourself that shit ...
Harry Maier this air intake location is higher then any of the other manufacturers. Dust is heavier then air thus there is more closer to the ground. There is no way it could be any worse then regular location.
