First saw this bike in 2014...love at first sight! I bought the hard candy custom. I've been in lust with it ever since. All the power to you Matt for doing this video!!!
I have loved The Breakout ever since it came out in The CVO form. I remember seeing it at The International Motorcycle Show a few years back and I fell hard for this bike. In my opinion it is one of the best looking Harley's and if I didn't have my 07 Softail I would have a Breakout. Great Vlog Matt. Keep up the great work.
You stepped up your game Matt. I expected nothing less. A lot of info. Some back story on the Breakout really keeps the attention of the audience imho. Some info on what this bike was built for. And as usual your opinion on what type of rider would most likely enjoy this bike. Your audio / visual was on point. Very professional. Good job !
Great video Matt- never saw my (2016) FXSB here before. I agree somewhat with the handling- my first turn I immediately scraped the pegs. It’s rough on the highway, but I do 200 miles round trips to San Diego, Ventura, Santa Barbara. My wife picked it out because she said it was sexy- can’t discourage the wife when it comes to buying a bike!! She also picked out the FLHXS Dave sold us. If a softail isn’t working for your long trip, make sure you have garage space for that second touring bike!!
Hey Matt. Another great review. I own a 2014 Breakout with a tyre shredder kit. I recently upgraded the shocks to Shotgun's air rides. They're great. Fully height and rebound controllable. I'd be recommending them to anyone that wants to upgrade their shocks
I've always liked that chopper look, that's exactly why I bought a breakout, I did put some big radius pipes on and I'm thinking about getting some 14-in bars, just not very comfortable other than that I absolutely love it
Hey Matt, I know its been out a while, but seriously nice review, you get into the details! I have a 17 FXSB in Crushed Ice Denim, and I freaking love it!! I wanted to ask you an unrelated ? if you don't mind? What are you using to record your audio with the helmet cam, I have not found anything that clear. Thank you VERY much for your informative reviews and for your help!
When I was in the in the market for my new Harley I Was between the softail Slim S & the Break out.. but then the salesman told me that it was difficult to make turned with the fat tire. Being my first Harley I just decided to go with your Slim S and I don't regret it I love it!! Lol Thanks Matt for the video.. 👍🏻
Having been riding a Breakout since May '13, I'd have to disagree with your comments about the BO's handling. Once you can the original footpegs the BO leans nicely - so much so that I was scraping the edges of the Bassani turn-outs (I measured only 1" of tread at the edges that I don't use.). Also, like you said, replacing the front springs with Progressives makes a big difference, as does changing to a Shotgun shock for the rear. I think the drag bar was a stupid idea, and replaced mine with the 14" mini-ape HD sells. It completely changed the character of the bike and went from a clam position to a more "normal" laid-back Harley position.
hi guys, I'm 5,6 slim build and have this model HD in denim white and she fits perfectly for me and is quite the show stopper DownUnder. She is perfect for me in every way and I know the envy of lots of heavy duty guys who defiantly look twice. I use a air hawk for my pillion passengers including sissy bar and they seem very happy with that set up x
I have the 2014 breakout with Vance/ Hines 2 into 2 Big radius pipes. Arlen Ness Monster air sucker Filter. I am retired Army and this is my stress release. this and my drums. for some reason everyone wants to race me? even cars. I have no idea why. I just ride for myself and the enjoyment of the wind in my face. Killer bike.
Thanks Matt. Another excellent video. Appreciate it and keep them coming. Is it true that the 103 will be discontinued for the 2018 model year and replaced with the 107s?
I live in the West Palm Beach, Florida area and enjoy watching your detailed videos. When I head over to the Westcoast with my wife, I'm definitely checking yall out.
This is easily in my top 3 favorite Harley's. If I get one, I'll drive the thing to work when weather permits. Don't need to turn too sharp. Harley Speed Boat might be the better name :D. Anyways, wonderful review as always!
You've done a ton of bikes and I've learned at lot but you haven't done one on the fatbob. What your opinion on this bike. Or what's some crazy stuff that can be done with it.
As the owner of a 2015 Breakout, I have to disagree with some of the limitations you stated. I do long distance, twisties, all weather, etc... The rider would be the only real limitation on is bike. Would I prefer to do twisties on my Concours C14? Of course. Power is another story. My bike is mostly stock and I can peg the speedo on it! I laugh at people that think they need more power. For what? I am not bashing your video. At all. I just wanted to add my personal experience. I put a lot of miles on my bike and I do not hang out in bars. I got the bike partly due to the comfort and the sportiness. Looking cool is icing on the cake! Lastly, I solved my cornering issues by going to the Metzeler tires and doing power on turns. FYI
Most people when they turn a corner on a motorcycle, they tend to brake or coast. Since this bike is low to the ground, you have to roll on the throttle when you start your turn. This raises up the bike enough to get you around a turn without scraping. I slow down to the a speed a little less than I want to make the turn, then start throttling up slowly as I start the turn. It takes some practice to do it right. I rarely scrape the pegs anymore!
Thx Matt. another great review. The Breakout and Low Rider S are the two I keep coming back to. The Glides I think are out for me. I can manage a single trip a year on either of these bikes if reqd. IF you haven't done it yet a review of the Street Bob would be appreciated.
Great review as always right on point! If you like the break out styling but would prefer a better handling ride go with the C V O Pro Street. I could not and still find it hard to believe the handling differences between the two bikes. My 2013 Breakout could not begin to corner like my Pro Street! The only question I have for you Matt is why does Harley put a bias tire on the front rim and a radial in the rear and would putting a radial up front affect the handling in any way? Does anyone know?
I know this comment is 5 years old, but why does your pro street breakout handle different than you 2013 breakout? Don’t they have the same size rear tire and front?
@HURT 1 The front wheel on the Breakout is 21 inches, on the Pro Street it was 19. I have since purchased a FXDR which for my aggressive riding style nether of the other two can touch!
@@1Kenpoman you don’t have your breakout anymore? I’m wanting to buy a breakout since they don’t make them anymore. Would you get a pro street breakout or just a regular?
I almost pulled the trigger on a slightly used breakout when shopping for my new Harley. But I'm not an instinct buyer, and it didnt fit my needs the way my new Roadglide does. I test ride the breakout and if I could have two harleys, this would be in my stable.
Good review as always sir Don't know how you managed those bars with your height Matt. I can Barely stand the stock bars on my "14" CVO breakout. Swapping those out for 16 inch Burleigh bars. Can't stand rolling my shoulders forward anymore and I'm only 6'1lol.
Hey matt, you say its not a bike for beginners. Whats your definition of a beginner? Someone whos never ridden a bike or more like someone who doesnt have experience with cruisers?
Great video dude,You just put the icing on the cake,Going out to get this bike this weekend.Btw awesome helmet whats the name of it?Would love to purchase one of those also!
Question: So the ride & the handling issues you mentioned in this video, Is it worth paying the extra money to just go straight to the 2018 gen Breakout model instead? Thanks!
Get the twin cam. The m8s have the smaller ugly tank (less fue)l. I also believe the rake is different, I could be wrong. M8s sound similar to Japanese bikes with the scissor gear whine. Throw some cams, exhaust, air cleaner and a good tune and you'll not only sound better than the m8s but also quicker than a 117 m8. Edit 5-24. My 17' BreakOut is actually tuned to the numbers as a 131 build. 126hp, 141 tq. No reliability issues as of yet. I wouldn't want any quicker. If I did, I'd buy a Hayabusa.
Another great review Matt. That is an amazing bike, loved it since it came out and is the bike that really got me looking at Harleys. You said it right it just has a bad ass attitude. Thanks again for video and look forward to the next one.
Great video Matt! Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations on this. Looks like a great bike, definitely something I am leaning toward acquiring in the future. Is there a video that you have done that filters HD bikes into categories such as long distance, mountain/winding roads or the city? FYI I recently acquired an 01 Softail Heritage Classic and am looking to go to Sturgis from the East Coast and wanted to get some of your recommendations on how to prepare for that trek on the hog. Also, I was trying look for that helmet you have while doing this video. Where can I find that particular helmet? Much thanks and look forward to more of your videos!
Amon Zanpakuto They sell them all over. It's a Simpson outlaw bandit. I don't really have them categorized like that. Just 2017 reviews and everything else.
Mr MegaTruong it just depends what you're looking to get out of it. You'd be buying a different look and style. Similar performing bike. Both 103 inch. It's kind of a lateral trade. Different chassis.
I'm looking at both the wide glide and breakout. With the dyna chassis, is the wide glide going to handle better than the breakout even if it's got the racked out front end?
Great review, you really nailed the essences of the Breakout! Should the word essences even be used with HD's in the same sentence?? Ride cold, ride wet, ride WA State!!!
Matt Laidlaw appreciate it buddy , I was thinking maybe XL1200 Sportster for me , I'm gonna go test drive and all that good research plus I'm almost 6 ft. 3 in. tall and about 250 so i got to have a good size bike or I look weird , lol
wish you had a dealer near New York or Connecticut area I would do business with you and you only great sales man and business owner honest and I respect that I want to buy the new lowrider s but can't find a dealer that's respectful of my needs
One thing I really like about this one is the width of the front tire. I'm not so crazy about the ginormous rear tires, but I love the extra girth on that 21". Would love to see that tire size on the Wide Glide...or the rear wheel of the Wide Glide on this one.
The rear wheel alignment on the BO can cause it to want to go left or right. The BO has a mark on the right side for alignment, but no mark on the left side so it has to be eyeballed! If the right side rear axle is too far back, it will cause the bike to want to go left, inducing a slight right lean when ridden.
