Good review I bought one a few months ago a DCT version which is awesome don't miss changing gears....just remember never blip the throttle ...I have the black one which I prefer

Great review, Farmers get away with murder in England , I live near Goole on the A161 and it is a danger zone, farmers don't give a fig! I've contacted the Police on three occasions and now't is done! About time we deducted our council taxes in loo of the terrible Police services we get in England.

Nice bikes in your stable G-Man ! I have a 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000LT for adventure and a 2017 Kawasaki ZX10R for track and twistes, so I'm a little like you, with having two bikes for different types of riding !

Spokes! Seen lots of negatives about this, when I mentioned it to the Honda dealer in Swindon, they will exchange the spokes. Honda didn't do a recall, but will changes spokes out.

If you ever come to mount up a set of metzeler tourance you will probably never run anything else ...they go about 8000 to 10000 miles on my friends triumph 955i tiger ..they are rated 80/20 as you just said you probably will not got off road ..have you ever been cruising along only to see a detour and be forced to go off road on temperary dirt, gravel , and large chunks of white rock that is a mud pit on rainy days. That is when you will appreciate the metzeler tourance and any obsical in the road ..lose sand on pavement in a blind turn will wake you up ....it's nice to have tires built for everything at a split second

Comfort is far better than GS I’ve had a few beemers AT is the least of compromises I’ve had on any bike. There really isn’t much to complain about . Luggage is rubbish but I got mine free so can’t really complain. Good Video Buddy.👍🏻

Just got a 2017 AT had a 690KTM prior. Very happy with AT. Does annoy me when I see comparisons of AT to KTM 1090 and similar...There is no such bike that will do everything so suggest readers stop complaining and get 2 bikes...My second bike will be the KTM 790 adv when it comes out in 2019...Keep ridding troops...

I have a 2017 AT same colour too :) Had mine for 5 months and my spokes are fine. 18:00 I don't think there is much more to see. I have added a lot of extras onto my AT and I do take it on forest roads in British Columbia, Canada.

+G-MAN'S Bikes & Bits You mentioned that there is no quick shifter on the bike. I'm peaty sure that there is original Honda quick shifter available for AT and ATAS (2018). I have been asked in the dealership whether I would like to fit it or not. It is about 600-700€ from what i remember.

Hi John, yes spokes can get sorted under warranty, some dealers are saying they will replace just the spokes whilst some say they will replace the wheel too! You have to put a claim in to the dealer as it’s not a recall as just cosmetic 🙄

The 2018 version's supposed to have stainless steel spokes. Hope that's true, getting my 2018 AT Adventure Sport soon, hopefully this week. I tried sitting on the Adventure Sport version a couple days ago, and it was fine with both the 900 and 920 mm seat height. I'm not freakish tall either; 180 cm (5 of your feet and 11 of your inches..). But I'm used to my second bike, which has a seat height of 935 mm (Suzuki DR-Z 400S). Pretty excited to get the bike. I will be using mine for offroading, for sure.

Aye, if not they can be swapped later, like you said in the video. Not particularly worried, just don't like weak points on a relatively expensive vehicle. Like the stock tires - but seems they always skimp on the stock tires. The bike I'm swapping out, a 2017 Z1000SX, had shitty stock tires too. I'm thinking of fitting some 50/50 tires on the AT, like the Heidenau K60 or something similar.

True mate, tyres are a definite thing to change first, I guess as you said you will be going off road then 50/50 ones will be best bet, I’m getting my Scorpion trail 2 Tyres fitted in a few weeks 👍

Yeah some offroading but also longer trips. Will have to find some tires that last a long time. I see those Trail 2's have gotten excellent reviews; probably far better than the stock ones for sure.

Hi G-man, been watching your videos for a while now currently on a cb500x but looking to upgrade in the near future trying to decide between Xsr700/900 or Africa twin just a big decision to make ! Any advice ?

Hey buddy, Great you want to upgrade your bike, I love my Africa Twin and use it everyday and is spot on for commuting and long journeys, my Brothers XSR900 was superb too and he loved that and only sold it as wasn’t riding it much as always took out the Super Duke, I did find the seat a little firm on the XSR but apart from that I loved it! Guess it all depends what you will be using the bike for, happy choosing 😜, cheers, GMAN

I have an XSR 900 and it's great ... but I don't ride hard enough to warrant what is essentially a " hooligan bike" and I'm seriously jumping on an AT instead... mainly due to Gman 😂 both great bikes in their own way but I think AT is an all rounder and when I test rode was surprised how much fun you can have on the twin...

Adventure bike shop in Sussex have Altrider tubeless wheels for the AT. I am due for a replacement and will go straight to that. Otherwise spot on review. Though I hv had a few more corrosion issues on mine. Also sold off the Honda OEM panniers as I couldn't stand those. Ugly as hell. Went with Givi bags instead.

Maybe a good move on those wheels mate, seems pretty well made apart from spokes, I’ll just be chuffed when I get the new tyres fitted so I can actually ride it properly in bad weather 😜

Have driven the dct but still prefer the out right control of the manual version, although if you drive in town loads maybe the DCT makes sense 👍

Hi mate, I’ve left the baffles in as seems Loud enough for me, the rivet that holds the baffle in has been squashed so makes removing it very difficult 😬

Hey buddy. I’m 5’7 tall and the smaller screen is way better than the standard one for me but still have minor problems with wind buffering, it’s very personal as everyone’s a different height and shape 😬

It is probably your climate, but my 10 year old Harley Davidson has spokes still unblemished by rust.

It was the fact the spokes weren’t stainless steel, they started corroding from just being ridden in the rain then got worse from the salt on the icy roads, now I have new stainless spoke wheels let’s see how they fair over the winter 😬

@@GMANS_BIKES_CARS The salt is probably the biggest factor. Because I live in Canada there is normally snow on the ground when they put the salt down. My bikes have never been exposed to the salt. Thanks again for this video. I am very interested in the Africa Twin, I never bought one because the height and the weight always made me apprehensive. To tell you the truth, I felt the same way about the Road King, but after I got the hang of it, I found it very easy to ride. There is a reason there is so many old guys on Harleys.

Actually mate, first off I’ve lived in the countryside all my life and worked on farms too, mud on the road in the countryside is a fact of life but farmers should take a bit more responsibility to clear up sometimes! Also my bike is normally filthy as use it everyday and I’ve taken it off road too so I only cleaned it for the video, anyway thanks for watching my vid, cheers, GMAN 👍

Thanks mate, my buddy has a 2019 AT SPORT and used it a few times over the winter and already has corrosion around the base of the spokes, not a happy chap!! Has put a complaint into Honda 😬

Have taken it off road but unless you change the tyres it is crap! I use my KTM300 TPI for all my off roading needs which only weights 105 kilos to the 3 tonnes the AT weighs 😜

Also, the first sentence should start with a capital A an end with a question mark. “Rubbish only tolerated 4 minutes” is not a sentence, and if only 4 minutes was viewed, you can’t judge the whole lot as rubish. Sorry , I mean rubbish.
