You know, I was on the fence about the Ridgeline. After your review, I grew a soft spot for the Ridgeline.

Although this review is 3+ years old, Jason did a great job featuring the great utility and featuers of the 2017 Ridgeline. I owned a 2006 for 6 years (loved it) and then waited for the new body style to buy my second (2017 Ridgeline Black Edition). Folks that need the utility of a truck that can fit in a normal garage, the Ridgeline is to you. Honda quality, great ride and great features.

Great review and info. I was on the fence with this truck having owned a Tacoma and a Frontier. The Ridgline will meet my needs perfectly as a hunter, homeowner, and regular ol’ working dad. I just traded in my 2012 Frontier for a 2019 Ridgline Black Edition and I couldn’t be happier. These things are amazing. I used to be in the “this is not a real truck” crowd... not any more.

+You Tube - would you say that the base model GM twins are trucks? They carry less payload and tow less, but nobody says that they aren't "trucks". Or maybe the F150 isn't a truck because it is made of aluminum instead of steel. If this isn't a truck, what are its nearest competitors?
@JOHNch4.v.v.7to10
@JOHNch4.v.v.7to10 8 лет назад
Anyone can do better than TFL, those guys are L-A-M-E. Good job, HPJ!! I actually like the fact that you are so Honda-biased. My first car was a used 1978 Accord 3-door hatch with HondaMatic tranny!! (I bought it in 1982 after I got out of Army Basic Training!!) I've also owned a '76 3-door Civic manual; a '96 Civic EX Sedan 5 speed manual; a '01 CR-V EX; a 2002 Civic EX (the worst Civic EVER!!); and currently have an '06 Pilot EX. Great company that has had a few hiccups, but I think that they are back on track.

Roman says, Prey tell what new technology do you mean? Stability control? Independent Suspension? Navigation? Direct Injection? Perhaps a power sliding rear window? GM, Toyota, Ford, Ram, Nissan been there done that. What about cylinder deactivation? Diesel Engines? Air Suspension? Factory Trailer Brake Controller? Back up Trailer Assist? Turbo Charging? Off-Road PKGs with underbody protection? Aluminum Body Construction? This is the "new technology" that the competitors bring to the market. Perhaps this is why they outsell the Ridgeline 100 to 1. And Roman adds...."Oh Yeah and Get off my lawn" ;-)
@terranborn56

the most thorough review yet. The beefed up suspension is a big plus. Hope someone comes out with a 1' or 2" lift kit for it. Wish they had an AC outlet in the cab, but other than that, really cool stuff.

I like the advantage of having a truck bed, but prefer the driving dynamics of an suv. This seems like the compromise we need... Decent fuel mileage, nice ride, love the hidden trunk in the bed... Often when we are out and about we make several stops, being able to put bags of chicken feed, in the trunk, then run to the grocery store, without moving things from the bed to the inside to keep from someone stealing things is great

really enjoyed your review- just bought an RTL-E 2 days ago and was looking for tips and tricks on the truck and came across you video- lots of good information! For all the haters out there- this truck is just perfect for us. We live in the city, but do lots of home gardening and woodworking projects and this truck is perfect. In addition its comfortable to drive, super easy to park (used to have a Ford 150 with 6 foot bed...ugh to park), and super easy to do everyday things like get groceries and use the in bed trunk (again, ugh to put groceries in the back seat or bed of the 150). if I needed to haul a "horse trailer", I wouldn't buy this, so stop saying what it can't do. Its like saying don't get a speed boat because you can't haul shipping crates from China on it. It does what it is designed to do.

I PURCHASE A RTL-E RIDGELINE AND AM VERY HAPPY. HOWEVER, I HAD THE DEALER INSTALL THE FOLDING TONNEAU COVER WHICH LOCKS BUT THE TAILGATE DOES NOT. ALL IS DEFEATED AS ANYONE CAN OPEN THE TAILGATE AND GAIN ENTRY INTO THE ITEM STORED IN THE BED. ALSO, THE BACKUP CAMERA IS WHERE THE TAILGATE HANDLE LOCK SHOULD BE AND IF YOU DRIVE WITH THE TAILGATE DOWN THE CAMERA ONLY WILL SHOW THE FLOOR.

Awesome look at the Ridgeline. Been seeing all the first drive reviews! This truck is growing on me and I'm starting to love it and it makes complete sense how they made it and how it's 50% it's own. Definitely a truck I would use for personal..now Honda just needs to keep going to have a half ton I can use for Business so I can be all Honda! :) great as alaways HPJ

I think you need to take a look at the older Honda ridgeline! The trunk is larger and wider in the older model! The 3 things Honda needs to do are to bring back older trunk, increase the towing capacity, put a 120 volt outlet back into the cab and increase the amperage of the outlet in the bed of the truck! If you are going to have a 120 volt outlet in the bed of a truck you should be able to run a miter saw. You need an outlet inside the cab of a vehicle for your laptop. Otherwise the Honda ridgeline is an awesome truck I currently have a 2012 Honda ridgeline RTL. The only thing I hate about it is the lack of towing power!

about to hit 90,000 on my 2014, no issues, just replaced AC/Seat heat relays/fuses and a inside light...reliable....never got stuck in the snow, driving up hills etc. only thing i would say i dont like is the low speed turning radius for parking lots and the power (if i keep the car long enough ill probably supercharge it lol). It would be cool to switch to 2wd or 4wd or fwd anytime you want. for the new ridgeline i dont like the front its like a mini-van vibe. the old one looks good to me, if you mod it and black out some details to make it aggressive looking. The GPS feels retro but works, wish there was more display options in the dash like performance details, maintenance records, front camera for when you used the wheel lock (cant go over 18mph, so i might want to see what im running over slowly).. Towing in my old ridgeline works for my project car, i had no problems. oh yeah my center arm rest thingy is bubbling, ima take it apart and get it swede. 97/100. ill check this one out one day lol

The Ridgeline is beautifully engineered. However, it is not different. It was a result of limited resources that gave birth to a Pilot/Odyessey based truck. Beautiful Truck, very great to own, but not different. Toyota can do the same thing doing a Highlander based Truck. However, Toyota does height the Engineering and the resources to do two different version of their midsize truck for different parts of the world. I consider the Ridgeline a beautifully built Pilot with a bed, with reinforcements needed to have a trouble free long life. Great job by Honda, but made this way because of their limited resources.

I believe Jason is a salesman for a HONDA dealership in Illinois. He's always been great with answering customers' questions so he started doing videos to address many of the common questions, on his own time. He loves the Honda brand, the innovation, the culture, and he's loved and appreciated the world over by both, customers and corporate. He would have been shut down long ago if they didn't think he was doing a good thing. You want to see Hollywood style flashy water splashing and exaggerated camera angles showcasing "off-road" capabilities, dust flying and horse trailer towing, go watch a domestic truck commercial - the other 97% of us here are happy to see what trucks are actually used for: Hauling earth or building supplies, grocery shopping, and taking the truck camping.

@HPJ or anyone else for that matter: Almost all of the news, their Superbowl commercial, and indeed a big portion of this video focuses around the 8 inch infotainment screen, Honda Sensing, and in-bed audio, but those features only available on the VERY top trims, $12000 over the base price. On the Pilot however, the 8 in screen comes standard on all but the base model and the EX w/ Honda Sensing can be had for about $3500 over the base price. Honda has even said that they expect the biggest seller to be the AWD RTL. So my question is what was the thinking behind pricing those features outside of the reach of the mass market and apparently not even offering them as options?

Thanks Jason - Haters Hint: unless you are paying for my truck - I don't care if you don't like it and yes it's not the style I prefer but it's not a Pilot or an El Camino... Sure it's not an F350 had one - there's no diesel, it's not my Tundra or Allison Diesel either but I love my Ridgeline E and have seen up to 30 mpg at 55 mph. I am enamoured by all of the safety equipment that will stop the car for you and keep it in your lane - literally in a curve it will correct your line. Absolutely love mine ... it's an amazing truck and I had a 2017 Tundra Platinum 4x4 before. Give it a try. PS - Anyone have a Ridgeline tent?
