@@Vacublaster1 I know your comment is old but technically its the Aussies gov fault for making everything so expensive. GM was making no money in the end and that is the point of a company. By the time the wages and products were bought there would be no money left after sales which were low anyway. The cars were becoming way to expensive for the consumer and company was losing 100s of millions a year and would have been billions if it was left open for a few more years.

I love this review mate. I have a 2007 VE V8 CALAIS that went through the HSV workshop and is now a HSVi [HOLDEN SPECIAL VEHICLE INDIVIDUAL]. I've just posted a comment on DOUG DEMURO's review of a VF SS stating that he is so wrong in many of the assumption comments that he had made in relation to the VF COMMODORE. The HSV was [to my knowledge] not ever exported to the USA, they lost out! Thanks for taking the time to compile and post. I'm still very sad that HOLDEN are now no longer with us here in Australia. I've been saying this since 2006, that this fat, oversized shit box with an ass the size of an elephant is going to send the company broke and I was laughed all along, nobody believed me. And stupid people kept buying it. And when the Station Wagon was released shortly (a barge that looked more like a hearse than a car), I couldn't believe how anyone ever considered that to be a family car. But the Generals continued production for 10 years and no change in chassis design (a more family oriented car than a sporty bullshit, as if everyone is a racing driver), it finally led people to realised what an ugly car it was, especially when most of these cars came with expensive add-ons, e.g. sporty wheels and low profile tyres that did not cushion the impact enough when hitting the kerb or the raised edge of driveways, etc., you couldn't go fast in driveways for fear that the wheel rims would pinch the tyres and blow them or, worse still, crack the rims as well. I think John Cadogan made a video about these wheels, low profile tyres and cracked rims. Instead, GMH continued to push out not only an ugly large model but also an unroadworthy and unsafe model with illegal features, including illegal and dangerously unsafe, super bright, torch-like halogen headlights that later were fitted with increased light intensity of the new LEDs technology behind a magnifying glass that boosted enough lumens capable of releasing out a brightness responsible for causing eye halo and temporary blindness, as these had no anti-glare protection. You call that a safe car? You must be on drugs if you think this shit box is/was safe. As an ex motor mechanic/engineer of 43 years, having done roadworthy tests since '73, I would well and truly not have passed this car. We had better vehicle safety regulations back then. But, nowadays all the illegal shit is added to cars, including thin indicating lights that are hard to see in some cars during a sunny afternoon day (as if everyone wants to own a KITT, the car from the TV series, Knight Rider? @@mickcarson8504 what are you talking about? The Zeta platform was highly profitable for GM, and was sold around the world. Big estate cars are the ideal family crap-hauler, far better than any shitty CUV. The Holden wagon is a good-looking car. The fact that you could buy it with big V8s and suspension/brakes that worked on twisty roads just added to its appeal. The only thing about it that was a failure was GM's inability to market the damn thing properly in Europe and North America. It could and should have been a genuine mass volume seller in the mould of the BMW 5-series instead of being a niche thing that mostly sold in South Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Here in the UK, you could only have it with the big V8 - they didn't even try to sell the 3.6 V6 here, let alone anything smaller. GM did get the fifth-gen Chevrolet Camaro out of it, though, which is where the bulk of the Zeta platform's sales volume came from. As for your bizarre rant against effective headlights and DRLs, both of which are mandatory in most markets...

It’s a nice car but is it really worth ten times what a vxr8 Bathurst s would be to buy?? U could buy a mint Bathurst s with 560 bhp and get it tuned by monkfish to the same spec as The w1 for £50000 all in. That’s what I would do. And the Bathurst s is a nicer car.

Nothing wrong with the electric steering it is cheaper to fix than hydraulic steering I looked at prices for my Caprice the rack with the motor is cheaper brand new than a reconditioned change over hydraulic and if something goes wrong you still have conventional non power steering

There is no such thing as *insert name of a country* cars. All of them are made in all over the world. General motors have been all over the world as long as I can remember. Identity of Opel (Vauxhall in UK) and Holden have kept quite well, even though GM parts are all over in every brand cars they make. Parts and pieces for them have been designed god knows where and by who. What I can say is... there wouldn't been RWD four door saloon cars with powerful V8's in them without Aussies. The mighty V8 supercar series is the most aussie thing ever, and the cars have always been based on those cool v8 saloon production cars. Vauxhall VXR's, Pontiac GTO's (Holden brand in us) would not have been there without Aussie craze for these cars... and making them. If GM has a very good simple and powerful V8 engine... who cares what cars use it... let's just slap that under the hood of Holden. That's what I would do.
Mishbenz i’m 2 years late, but mate it’s got an LS9 motor in it which is a Chevy Motor and Chevy is American. So yes it factually does have one of them “American piece of shit motors” as you called it, powering it.

Youre all idiots. Holden designed the 5th gen camaro as well if you didnt know. Its a team effort. They made many great cars. GM is making money off their designs. I dont know who exactly contributed to the engine design but the L76 and L77 are 6.0 LS motors that are a better version than the LS2 and are in only Holdens. During the economic decline in America Holden was still kicking strong. GM was on their knees asking Holden to design the new camaro

I have a 2011 Camaro SS 6 sp manual ls3 24,000 orig miles. Lysholm Supercharged 610 BHP 660 torque all that with only 9 pnds of boost. Total cost to build $21,900 American. Car was $15,000 twin screw SC kit minus tune $5,500 dyno tune $500 give or take and the rest odds and ends AEM meth inj kit 160 thermostat, oil, coolant etc etc. Only REGRET is leaving factory clutch. Point is you can BUILD EXACTLY what you want for 1/10th cost of BUYING what they want to give you. And get the PRIDE of knowing that's YOUR creation. AS I CHUCK A ROD AND SCATTER THE INTERNALS OF MY BELOVED LS3 ALL OVER THE STREET AND MY WIFE SCREAMS I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO IN MY EAR. What's the bet it won't even dyno 350kw ATW, hsv always over ratting thier cars , ford on the other hand 355kw dynos at 330kw ATW LOL while the gts 430 is lucky to dyno at 320kw ATW, Watch wheels magazine do a test on them it's on RU-vid
you do realize the Gts has a bigger stronger 9.9" diff with bigger stronger driveshafts. that tends to sap power. And dyno numbers are for bragging at the pub at the track the standard Gts still belts every single falcon ever.
