Without seeing it in person I personally think a standard GTS in better looking but what they've changed doesn't offend me. The alcantara interior is interesting and that exhaust note sounds particularly angry. Pity more are available but that's the way it goes I guess, nice though for those who've managed to secure one.

It still runs 12s on the 1/4 though? Surely with that much power it would be in the 11s. If more money was invested in the chassis i.e. weight saving and maybe traction issues resolved it would be a much better, more refined car. ZR1 has really good traction & take off and retains its FR layout.

Just imagine getting lingerfinger get there hands on it to tune it and make it better, you would have a bulletproof engine and running gear and at least 600Kw at the flywheel running all day everyday without missing a beat at all, Or Calloway to do the upgrades, making a new 240 miles per hours beast with the right speedo and other dash requirements as well, having the extra gauges on the EDI system to match it as well ? Basically a new version of the hammerhead, but with the VF/ Zeta platform etc. :) All internals done in the engine, auto and diff, engineered right the first time, so that you could race it everyday, as long as you change the oils and filters, that way no matter what ford brings out like the mustang and even the shelby GT300 could not keep up with it, due to the gearing and other aspects of hte way the engines puts the power down to the ground, its not worth having 650KW at the engine if the power just goes to the rear wheels, basically even better why not use a AWD system made by the current HD GMC trucks and do that up with better stronger internals and then it would be a beast, if your going too go all out and make the last Holden / HSV, why not make tow version Rear wheel drive and AWD versions, so clients hav the choice, after all its about the clients and making cars to suit those clients which is to say if they are going to spend around 200K, it needs to be as good as say a pource or a Tesla as far as the speeds etc. :)

Also the seats, what the hell, you would think they would be 16 way adjustable, heating.cooling both front and rear, blue ray players in the back headrests, just like most euopean sports cars / luxury cars etc. :) yet cost so much less and get the W1 a run for its money as well. :) No change to the seats other then what its covered with ?

As far as the breaks, its still squeals like a cat and the noise drives people mad, especially when cold days and just before you stop at lights it sounds like you have a cat that is stuck under the guards, lol :) thats the price you pay for performance brakes, but theres a quicks fix as well, just rubber sticky shims which gets put onto the rear of the pads stops all that squeaking noises, lol :) so a 25.00 part which is enough to do all the rotors and pads basically for one car, heres the link which if people want to stop the noise, cheers :) www.empoweredautoparts.com.au/ebc-anti-squeal-shims-for-disc-brake-rotors-large Which applys to all cars with performance rotors pads, like the redlines, GTS/R and HSV models etc. :) Basically all it is is the vibration of the pad when it makes contact with the disc, which is why if you drive a normal car with no performance brakes and you dog knows your home yet you dont drive a V8 at all, rumbling as you pull up in the driveway, just the frequency of the nosies which DOGs can hear thus they know your home, but you cant hear anything at all?. :)

I'm not a Holden man (tho definitely appreciate them & any car) but it is a huge shame that they're stopping production as well as Ford putting the halt on Aussie manufacturing. The biggest let down with this car is they didn't make it look like limited edition. Think of the VL Walkinshaw and more importantly the original GTS-R with its bright yellow paintwork and black wheels.... yes it was panned for its out there colour combination at the time, but if you see one out on the road or parked somewhere there's no mistaking it for a cooking model Commodore! This last model should of had a defining visual feature.

what is the point of spending approximately 37% more than a GTS on having that extra 66kw more power for no noticeable change in acceleration? It cant put it to the ground

andrew mccluskey - I agree. LS9 is awesome but so 2013. LT4 would be keeping up with the times, but as mentioned I guess it's the cost

andrew mccluskey there simply wasn't enough time to develop the car for it. The Zeta platform is dead now the VF is the last car carrying it forth and no zeta platform cars use GM's gen 5 engines. Though no Zeta platform cars use the ls9 up until now it was easier to adapt the ls9 to said platform as it falls into the same gen iv family along side the LSA and LS3 which came factory in these cars.

or just cam, pulley, e85 tune, rolled rear guards and bigger tyres. be running 10's for less than $10K and slaying it on the circuit. On top of the $170K and on roads of course lol.

GRPABT1 you'd wanna hope so I spent about that on my FG and last time I ran it on e85 it did 10.12 @ 142ish from memory. 255 street radials. My car definitely couldn't track like this beast though. Completely different league from a 65 grand ford to a 170 grand performance orientated road/circuit weapon.

16 the roll on acceleration in the Barra turbo had to be it's strongest point. Midrange punch is huge

Even better the new corvette supercharged engine with around 750 HP, now that would be better or the LT4, which then at least you dont have to run around to get parts,as they are building them in the stats as normal sport cars so spares are not a problem, with the LS9, its what ever spares they have, so in 10 years HSV will have to make sure that the parts are there to make a complete car for at least 300 units or at least 100 units, but as we all know HSV is not like that if they dont have it, they have to order it from the states and thats if they have the part, especially the right hand stuff, lol :) but then again the camaro ss and now the ZL1, again the engines / running gear is there ,so your right why not just start with the running gear in the ZL1 ? Its that old saying to bad so sad, especially for those people who own one and just want spres, lol :) But there never on the roads and if so its at least 10 to 20KM drive just to warm up things, then back into the vault ?

So 4.5 sec quicker, which is unreal when you think of what the GTS represents, it's supposed to be HSV'S top of the range sport model, yet all they needed to do is put the right suspension and the right tyre /rim combo and you have a quick track car, but most people who have a GTS, do not take it to the track to race at all, i have not seen one stock GTS at a test track at all never, other than owners driving that car to a track day ? also that they did not let the general public know about the car before all of them were sold is showing that those in the know brought one, way before anyone had the chance to know about it? Which is a monopoly, i cant wait till someone puts a ACCC complaint about the range and the fact that the average Australian did not get the chance to buy one, they were all sold and then the said that holden/HSV were going to release the GTSR W1 ?

I would'nt waste my money on this car, holden will be of the market soon here in australia and it will be hard to argue with the customer service when something does go wrong with this car. Holden is one of the company lacking in this department. Don't get me wrong they are good cars, fast, good design, and an aussie icon but reliability is the issue here.

LA Studio74 Australian manufacturing laws state that all local manufacturers have to supply parts for 10yrs after production, which is better than any overseas manufacturers, and i think ppl who have already owned o/seas cars are seeing how difficult that is, had a friend with a s class, crack in windscreen, had to wait 6 weeks to get it shipped to australia, thats what the future holds....

I used to work at HSV building them.When you see them close up and underneath the quality is laughable. Chassis welds like birdpoo,100's of zipties and as you say terrible paint finish You have to remember its based on an economy commuter car/taxi basically

Can I ask where and when you worked for HSV?, give us some more details, bear in mind the build quality of other cars such as GTR, do a launch control and nissan won't honour your warranty.

For roughly 4 years including VE and VE2 models at Clayton. Suspension,brakes,headers/exhaust,wiring 98% of the mechanical and assembly work is done by casual labour from Skilled Australia. Not qualifed mechanics

I would buy one, well tried to, and when it comes to fuel economy, its not something that is relevant when buying these sorts of cars, have a look at Bentley continental L/100klm, or a Maserati 4 door, these HSVs, LSAs etc, really seem to stack up
