With a strong combination of value, technology, and sleek looks, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra sure is a strong player on paper against stalwart players like the redesigned Honda Civic. Only it's rather noisy engine and lack of power may send you checking out its more powerful competitors.

I have the 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE. and I’m in love with it. I don’t really care if it’s “base model” or not. It’s a very zippy car and it’s great on gas. Mine has 75k miles, rides like a dream, transmission shifts smoothly, has eco and sport mode. It’s a fun car! I watch a lot of car review videos and you really put together a great package from the external shots, inside and content. I always learn a lot in your vids and count myself on the enthusiast side so appreciate your specific point of view. As for this segment, these "small" cars have grown so much and are priced much higher and closer to some of the mid-sized ones, I'd have a tough time passing on an Mazda 6 touring with manual over a little more tech-laden, smaller car just to save a few mpgs.

I rented this car a few weeks ago. The engine is pretty peppy under 4,000 rpm, but quickly loses power above 4k rpm. The car looks nice and is quite comfortable. As a daily driver, it is a good car. Think of it as an improved Toyota Corolla...nothing wrong with that... It returned 5.1 L/100 km (rented the car in Canada)....roughly equal to about 45 mpg.... that was impressive....

I just rented one of these for a weekend and the acceleration was just fine, and the engine was not noisy. If you do nothing but floor it as you do in every damn video you do then yeah you're going to hear it. Try doing a review driving the vehicles like a normal person. A single 0-60 test is fine, but flooring it at a stoplight all the time is just ridiculous.

I own a 2017 Elantra, value edition, and I used to sell Honda's for 4 and a half years and I have to say the Hyundai brand is really coming up in the automotive world. Yes while Honda does have some better features, Honda has always been known for more performance and interior looks. Sadly now a days the cars are looking more and more...well let's just say they don't look Good to me (other than the civic hatch) Hyundai gives out a lot of technology for the price but does lack on the excitement aspect. But dollar for dollar the Hyundai is catching up to Honda's and Toyota's very quickly and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hyundai one day running with the big dogs.

Nice little car, had one for a week as a rental SE model 2017. Gas miles was great, I drive a SUV daily so I was loving this. Very easy handling. It just did it's job. Next rental, i'm trying to get a ford focus to compare to the Elantra. In the near future we are looking into getting a second car. This will mostly be driven by my wife. If I had to buy it on the spot, I would but I will like the bluetooth option for our phone connectivity. All the other tech options that it comes with on higher trims is nice but keeping cost down is a focus for us.

I have a 2015 Jetta 1.8T. My previous car was a 2006 Mazda 3 5 door with the 2.3 engine. My Mazda is much more refined and more solid of a car. My big complaint with my Jetta is that the whole interior is hard plastic everywhere and the drivers seat is not as supportive or as well bolstered as my Mazda. I should have bought another Mazda even though it rusted pretty bad around year seven or eight which really depressed me. I have never owned a car that rusted like that around the wheel wells and the bottom of the doors The current models are more aerodynamic and back seat room has decreased to the point of being only for kids or shorter people. My Jetta has a 12yr/120000 mile rust proof warranty, where Mazda has I think 3/36 on everything now. My 2006 came with a 4/50 warranty which was a bit better than everyone else. I want to take the Elantra Sprot for a ride with that 200hp turbo motor. I want that zoom zoom that Mazda provides back in my driving life. I miss my Mazda more than my last girlfriend. Sorry baby.

While I do like some of the updated features of the 2017 redesign, I like the styling and looks of my 2013 Elantra Coupe much better, and the updated features and more lackluster looks are not enticing me to upgrade. The gen5 Elantra was a much better looking car, has all the features I want/need, and in my opinion is very comfortable to drive even on long trips. Sure it can be "skittish" in corners, but I don't try to drive it like a race car. If I wanted sports car performance, I would have bought a sports car! I'll stick with my 2013 coupe. When it is time to upgrade (probably not till around 2020-2023, if not longer), chances are it will be another Hyundai. Besides, who can beat Hyundai's class leading 10yr warranty!

Sofyan is young and likes fast cars that handle well. This is why he drives recklessly in state parks where the speed limit is 15mph. This is also why he whines about a car designed as a general use vehicle because it doesn't perform like a Camaro SS. If you see cars through "Hot Wheels" eyes then his reviews make sense.

Sofyan is 27, he's actually two years older than me. also he doesn't get into muscle cars like the Camero, but most people like the engine.

If you think this is whining try savagegeese. Sofyan is a great reviewer imho

Savagegeese reviewed this car. He pushed it hard thru part of his review to test its limits, but specifically to test the limits. That's what he does in every review. He understood the intent and purpose of the car. It's not a sports car. Its tuned more toward comfort, which the average adult driver appreciates.

Can anyone tell me which is better(sporty) there are 2 types of Elantra engine here in Croatia 1.6 MPi (Petrol) 128BHP and 1.6 CRDi U2 Engine (Diesel) 136 BHP which of those two would accelerate and be faster ive read that diesel engines accelerate slower but can't decide yet

I have a 2013 Elantra and several things let it down: 1. Lack of engine power, 2. Road noise inside 3. Not a smooth ride. They have addressed several of those but engine power seems to be still not great...although as regards value for money it's good. Standard models have heated front seat, air con, cruise control...so pretty good features. Regarding ride and noise, I don't expect a luxury car for the price of an elantra

I believe the engine in this car is an Atkinson Cycle design, which is far from ordinary for a non-hybrid design. The Mazda 3 never gets the advertised MPG in test reviews I have seen, but the new Elantra hits the EPA marks or better. It certainly does as well as the Corolla LE. I think it looks way better than the Honda or Mazda 3. I heard a sport model is coming with an independent rear suspension and better brakes.

With the limited you have to drive it in sport with the auto stick to get any acceleration or just regular mood will work.

Need you to do a review of the VW Jetta 1.4 and 1.8 for comparison. They should have a lot more low end torque.

The 1.4 T engine is amazing. Wish they offered that engine in the higher trims of the Jetta; it's one of the few German made engines VW has!

I have a big complaint about this review and most reviews on youtube. Most of the reviews are for the higher trims, even though the majority of sales are the lower trims. Almost all your reviews, I would rather see on a lower trim version of the car - because that's probably what I would be buying. Other than that I want to say, I really enjoy them How about you do your reviews of 2019 autos on the lowest trim versions so they will be useful? Thanks.

I've been driving this car for the past two weeks and just completed a 6 hr road trip and I have to say you didn't give it enough credit. It's actually pretty fast, the 60 to 90 acceleration is really good, the take off is slightly slow but no problem when changing lanes or from a roll. I think you have a poor driving style as well because I have a lead foot and still got 36-38city and 39-42highway. It actually got the best gas mileage at around 80mph. Also I quickly switch driving modes when I need to avoid a box or stick situation and it had no problem sling shooting to 95mph when I needed to pass an asshat who stayed in the fast lane and decides to speed up when I had to pass. Overall this vehicle has a 26-30k feel for only 17-19k, that's really impressive.

I think Honda Civic wins in terms of safety technology and features. You have to buy the Limited Elantra in order to get the adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and Automatic Breaking. These safety features are available in all civic trims including the based LX. If you care about these safety features, you should consider the Civic. It is a pitty that such important safety features are not available in the lower trim Elantra
@theredline
@theredline 8 лет назад
You are correct with that, we like the fact that Honda offers those safety features on lower trims, but the Elantra also has some features that are unavailable on the new Civic, such as the memory seats, adaptive swiveling headlights, and the smart-access trunk opener. At the same time, Honda offers full-LED headlights, more power, and a sportier driving feel. It really comes down to what you prefer most, there is not right or wrong answer.
