If you are having an issue where the vents on one side or the other are not changing temperature, then it is likely you have a failed blend door actuator. This video will show you where to locate and how to replace the driver side actuator. I am also providing a link that will give you a guide on how to inspect and replacement both the driver and passenger actuators.

Dude, I am always grateful people like you make these videos. As a very handy but non car guy this definitely helped. I for sure would have broke something tonight trying to remove the panels. 45 minutes and now a happy wife. Thank you. Now to troubleshoot no blinker noise in the cabin...

@@DiamondStarWerks Yes. When I grabbed the actuator I picked up a speaker. I swapped it last night afterwards and I couldn't believe that would be it but did fix the blinker noise.

Did this repair today using this video. Easy squeezy. Video is presented a little in backwards order, but covered all the steps. Just watch it twice and you should get the idea. Thanks so much for making this! Saved a ton of money. Our sportage needs constant repairs - sucks.

Thank you for posting this! Like one of the other commenters I was able to to do this without removing all of those panels. One screw is obstructed by the black plastic piece. If you take the panel loose in front of it you are able to angle a long phillips head and remove the screw that holds it in place. Then the black piece can be wiggled out. But your video was of immense help! Thank you!

Hey Jacob, Thanks for this video. My car was full hot on the driver side and full cold on the passenger side. It took me about 30 min to replace the blend door after watching your video. Problem solved, coffee bought.

Our first actuator failed at about 18 months from new. Of course it was while going through the mountains at 20 degrees in snow, but fortunately heading to Fl. Got it replaced. That one just failed a few weeks ago and we just got back from a 13 hour round trip. I’ll be replacing mine Tuesday as the local dealer is out 2 weeks to look at it - I was going to try for a “comp” replacement as they had done it once, but at $50 for the part, it’s not worth the effort. Thanks for the video, it’s less time to replace than it would for most to drive back and forth to a dealer. A Neighbor has a Sorento, theirs failed and the dealer “repaired the actuator” instead of my recommendation ( when they told me the symptom) to have the actuator replaced ( I said you can’t repair them ) two more trips to the dealer they finally got it actually replaced. These things are very poorly designed on Kias.

Yeah it seems to be a very common failure, fortunately it is an easy and cheap fix.

Great video! Works to help me to change the actuator in a Sorento 2016. Same steps but access to the actuator bolts is harder due to a piece obstructing it. But using a ratchet is simple.

Hi ! What was the problem that made you change it ? I’m asking because i have a ‘13 Sorento EX and i love my car but man… driver side blows warm air while the passenger and 3rd row AC blows cold. Is that what you experienced?

@@canavarRo69 my problem was that driver side only blow cold air no matter the settings of the center console while passenger side worked fine. Your problem seems to be one that can be solved by actuator change

I've got a similar issue on my 2019 Sorento. Driver side remains hot and Warm and only passenger side works like charm.

Don't see why everything has to be plastic. This is common in many cars. Should make the gears out of metal. What is it gonna wiegh, a fraction of an ounce more. I miss the old sliders with cables in 70's cars.

The actuator on my 2009 came out with a large white piece still attached. Two tabs stuck out still on the car that will fit back into the white piece that came off with the actuator. Is there an issue with where the two tabs came out and fit back into the white piece?

First off, good vid, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. Second, like several others that have commented, the passenger side BDA may be suspect (Heat on the drivers side none on the passenger). Do you have any idea how difficult it is to replace the passenger side BDA? 2017 Kia Sportage SX Turbo w/dual climate control. And have you had to replace the windshield fluid pump motor? If it is too involved to work the passenger side BDA, might as well support the local Kia deal and pay the $700 to $1000 (parts & labor) to have it done. Although, I'd love to do it myself. Again, thanks.

Thanks! I was able to turn the blend door easily with my fingers but if the fan is running running It wont turn. The actuator works fine while removed. Any ideas? Maybe a weak actuator? I'm going to replace it and see I guess but for now I just set the door to full cold and left the actuator connector unplugged as its getting hot already here in El Paso.

Actuator is likely weak or bad. Possibly has a bad spot in one of the gears inside. New actuator should fix that

No it's just because they have dual temp zones, so there is an actuator for each side

There is an actuator on the driver side for driver temperature and one on the passenger side to change passenger vent temperature.

Did anyone have any DTCs code to know if their actuator was bad? My vehicle currently is blowing cold air only and does not heat at all no matter how much I turn the heater off and on. I have a pretty good hunch this may be the problem but tried running the Code reader at an auto parts store and no code was pulled up, Check engine light is not on.

I have a problem with my Kia Sportage 2017 where it gets stuck on heat and it just pushes out extreme heat! You can’t even adjust the temperature of the heat. It’s just extremely hot. Then when I play around with the temperature control panel for a bit (turning the dial from cold to hot, turning the defrost on and off, changing the mode of air circulation, etc.), it eventually switches back over to cool. Do you think this would fix the problem?

We got it from worldpac I believe who is a wholsale only but it's owned by advance auto so you could get it from them. It's a temperature blend door actuator

I've got my blend door actuator where it needs to be to replace the old one, but it won't orient correctly to get the screws in place. It's on the relief cut, and will turn the blend door but can't reach the position it needs to. Any ideas?

Got it. Just had to turn it to heat first. Do you know if there is another blend door actuator that controls the passenger side? It's not outputting the correct temp now.

Yes there should be one for each side if you have dual zone controls

You have to change the actual blend door or find a way to keep it from turning inside it.

Can you tell me where the relay is for the hvac or i guess the AC!! I watched another video that said you need to pull the relay out for one minute and put it back and let it calibrate again because that could be the problem!

Just got my wife's 2017bkia sportage back from autobody shop. Rear bumper . They had it awhile waiting on parts. They ran a scan and it read a b2406-77 air mix motor-driver. Drove it home and yep no heat on driver side. Could disconnecting the battery for a bit possibly fix this issue?

Scan read a/c code b22406-77. Air mix motor- driver. Would that explain why only cold on driver side? Wifes suv and i never drive it. Its getting colder and i noticed this morning😔 Pos plastic junk

Yes it is. If it's not cold on both sides and you have dual temp control then your AC may have a leak

Look at the center of the AC compressor while AC is running, it should be spinning. If not then the compressor is not turning on. This could be due to low pressure from Freon loss(you have a leak) or a failed compressor clutch. If it is spinning and the low side line(the larger one) is getting cold but the vent temperature is not cold then this may beyour issue. Turn the blower on high and switch the temperature from hot to cold or cold to hot, listen for a change in the noise of the airflow from the temperature door swinging back and forth. If you do not hear a change then again this could be your issue.
