From what I was told, older models had the fan behind the dash (behind radio/climate controls) which would require a complete disassembly and also removal of the gas pedal just to get to the unit (all YT videos show this on older Mazda 3's..not sure when its location was changed). Dealerships would charge about $1k for labor and a $50 part. One funny note my local dealer wanted to replace my fan for the same price(stealerships) even though it is a way easier procedure for this model year.
