Mazda cx5 best value in this segment with quality materials thats long lasting. An amazing car with class, economy, power & ride quality. Best investment 👌
In Australia, the packaging is quite different. The Tucson reviewed in this video is like the second-lowest spec available here, not the highest spec as the local packaging in South Africa. AWD, Power Tailgate, and other features absent from the Tucson in this video are available in the two higher spec levels out of the 4 in Australia. They are labeled Active, Active-X, Elite and Highlander from base to top spec. The Tucson out-performs the CX-5 in all equipment levels and handling (by a lot due to Australian suspension tuning division here), refinement is noticeably higher on the road, and it's a little cheaper. The personal preference of buyers toward brand and design/styling may appeal more to Mazda owners in our market, but value, quality, refinement, equipment and handling all fall in the Tucson's favour over here, hence why Tucson is outselling CX-5 by an increasing margin each month... This is all relative - I closely reviewed/drove/shopped these two against each over for a month before purchasing the Tucson. Oh, and my other car is a Mazda ;) I still love them. Hope this helps any Aussie buyers!
Hey mate! Fellow Aussie here. How is your opinion aging on this after 5 years? I’m currently looking at buying a second hand SUV (2015-2018) and am guilty of leaning heavily towards Mazda. Seems like I could get a lot more value for money with a Tucson though.. What do you think?
@@Michael-gq9cd Sorry I’m not much help on this now. We sold the Tucson because we wanted to tow and go off-road. We have been in a Pajero Sport and find it’s awesome. 👍 For the time we had the Tucson we couldn’t really fault it. No issues with it. Dealer servicing wasn’t a great customer experience each time, but that’s not a fault of the car. During the peak Covid demand cycle, we sold it with just over 60,000kms on the clock for about $6k less than we paid for it new 4 years earlier. It was a 2017 Active-X. 🙂
The coolest thing about the Top Trim CX-5 is the Head Up Display. Although, the Tucson does have a panoramic sunroof/moonroof, but if you've ever used/seen a HUD...it's really nice and convenient. Not to mention...it keeps your eyes on the road
ahhh guys i just have to point out some facts here. 1st of all i own both these cars since i have a car rental business. 2nd my tucson has electric tail gate and it is automatic so BS is what the dude said , it has massaging seats, HUD , ambiente lights , 7 speed dual clutch transmission , heated and cooled steering wheel , automatic wipers and lights control , lane keep assist , blind spot sensors , emergency brake and e-hand break and auto parking and it is a lot more comfortable ( maybe the dude is talking about 2015 model) and on the mazda , the quality of interior matterials is conciderably better , cabin is a bit more quiet , seats are softer and wider and the a/c is colder. oh in my opinion the tuson rides better since its lighter. btw the tucson is awd.
Before watching the video I'm gonna give my guess as to which wins and also which I will choose. I think it will be the Mazda and that's what I would choose
I also choose the Mazda.... I also discovered that by lowering the Mazda CX-5 springs a bit & installin the 2021 BMW X5M competition rims on the Mazda CX-5 makes it look more sportier than a 2018 VW Tiguan R-LINE 🔥🔥🔥
Mazda CX-5 is better choices more reliable comes with more options and you don't have to get top-of-the-line model to get navigation and backup camera and all that other stuff because mazda's come standard with that
Thanks for the great and non-bias review. BRAND NEW Mazda CX-5.....3 MONTHS MORE to go, A Great Birthday Present for myself. A New and happy subscriber here!
In the UK the Tucson top of the range called Premium SE has sooo much more standard tech than the CX5. Including self parking, lane keep assist and a power rear door. Don't know why the SA one is less specc'd.
must be the region and country, but damn this feels like a top tear cx-5 vs a mid tear Tucson. This Tucson in the video has no AWD, no autolift gate, no inlane keep assist, 19 inch stock rims, shark pin antenna???? My tucson has ALL OF THAT, and bending headlights, blind side detection, auto pedestrian breaking, trajectory when in reverse and parking.
In Croatia also the Tucson has all features of high tec and even more as cx5 shown here.I dont know how tha f... he said in this video that this tucson is top trim level?!
I'm definitely not a car guy, but I'd do my homework before doing a review. The Tucson - at top trim level like the shown Mazda - features every bit of technology available today. Add to that the AWD which really puts the hammer down in terms of torque, and a price far more competitive than the Mazdas, and you're looking at the best SUV in its class. It did beat every test done in Germany, always putting the CX-5 in second place. Rightfully so.
Mazda is more expensive but it is clearly superior. But I'm happy with my Hyundai Tucson may not have all the bells and whistles of the Mazda but it does its job nonetheless
The Mazda is the better car but lets not forget we are comparing it with the Tucson which was launched 2 and half years ago and absolutely belted the CX 5 of that era, its all relative and in a few years when the new Tucson comes out the roles will be reversed again but lol about people saying Hyundai loosing styling edge, when this Tucson was released in 2015 it was so far better looking than the competitors it was a gag! Mazda now does look very smart .
😂😂 To all the haters who believe this, this is the actual spec of the Hyundai Tucson 2017 I'm ordering, this car is definitely up to date on it's specs he's just not up to date on the car. 19" Alloy Wheels with 2.0 CRD (17" on 1.7 CRDi Premium) Body Coloured Bumpers Chrome Effect Beltline Moulding Chrome Effect Door Handles with Front Handle Illumination Metallic / Pearl Paint Radiator Grille - Chrome Effect Rear Spoiler with Integrated LED Brake Light Roof Rails Side Body Moulding - Silver Skid Plate - Front Silver Skid Plate Rear - Silver Solid Paint Twin Exhaust Finisher Interior Door Handles - Chrome Effect Interior Light - Luggage Compartment Leather Effect Driver's Knee Bolster Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel and Gear Knob Soft Touch Door Top & Centre Trim Driver's and Passenger's Seat Electric Adjustment Driver's Seat Electric Lumbar Support Driver's Seat Height Adjustment Head Restraints - Vertical and Horizontal Adjustment Heated Front Seats Heated Rear Seats (outer rear seats only) Leather Seat Trim (seat facings only) Passenger Seat Height Adjustment Reclining Rear Seats Split Folding Rear Seats (60/40)Ventilated Front Seats Adjustable Intermittent Front Windscreen Wipers with Aero Wiper Blade Automatic De-fog System for Front Windscreen Automatic Dimming Rear View Mirror with Compass Automatic Headlights with Dusk Sensor Automatic Windscreen Wipers with Rain Sensor Climate Control - Dual Zone Fog Lights - Front Fog Light - Rear Front Windscreen Wiper De-icer Headlights - LED (Low Beam) with Automatic Levelling and Washer LED Daytime Running Lights LED Positioning Lights LED Rear Lights Privacy Glass Projection Headlights with Static Cornering Lights Solar Glass with Windscreen Shade Band Sunroof - Panoramic Glass Electric Tilt & Slide Tinted Glass with Windscreen Shade Band Windscreen Washer Fluid Sensor and Warning Indicator 12V Power Outlet in Front Console and Luggage Compartment Arm Rest - Front with Storage Arm Rest - Rear with Cup Holders Bottle Holders - Front Centre Console, Front Door Courtesy Light- Front Door Cruise Control with Speed Limiter Door Mirrors - Electric Adjustment and Heated Door Mirrors - Electric Adjustment and Heated with Power Folding Function Door Mirrors - Electric Adjustment and Heated with Power Folding Function and Puddle Lamps Electric Windows - Front and Rear with Driver's Anti-Trap Mechanism and One Touch Control Follow-me-home Headlight Function Front Seat Back Pockets- Driver and Passenger Seat Full Size Alloy Spare Wheel Tyre Repair Kit Glove Compartment - Illuminated with Cooling Function Heated Steering Wheel Interior Personal LED Light Luggage Hooks Luggage Net Retractable Load Cover Smart Electric Tailgate Steering Column - Height and Reach Adjustable Sun Visors - with Vanity Mirrors and Driver Ticket Holder Sun Visors - with Vanity Mirrors and Driver Ticket Holder and Illumination Sunglasses Holder 6 Speakers - 2 Tweeters, 2 Front Door, 2 Rear Door 8" Touchscreen Satellite Navigation with, TMC, Reversing Camera, MapCare and Tom Tom Live Services*Bluetooth® Connectivity Digital Clock Drive Mode Select (DCT Transmission only) Flex Steer (Manual Transmission only) Parking Sensors - Front and Rear Parking Sensors - Rear Parking System - Smart Park Assist (Automatic and DCT Transmission only) Steering Wheel Audio and Phone Controls Stereo RDS DAB Digital Radio with MP3 Compatibility Supervision Instrument Cluster Trip Computer USB and Aux Connections 6 Airbags - Front, Front Seat Side & Curtain Airbags Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) Active Bonnet System Auto Hold Function (Automatic and DCT Transmission only) Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) Blind Spot Detection System Brake Assist System (BAS) Childproof Rear Door Locks Curtain Airbag Rollover Sensor Deadlocks Downhill Brake Control (DBC) Electric Parking Brake (Automatic and DCT Transmission only) Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) Front Passenger Airbag De-activation Switch Height Adjustable Front Seatbelts Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) Immobiliser ISOfix Child Seat Anchorage Points - Rear (outer seats only) Keyless Smart Entry doors including automatic boot entry system with key in pocket stood next to the car boot and Engine Start/Stop Button (for those shopping days when your hands are to full) Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist Locking Wheel Nuts Perimeter Alarm Rear Cross Traffic Alert Remote Central Locking Seatbelt Anchor Pre-tensioners - Front Seatbelt Reminder - Front & Rear Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF) Speed Sensitive Automatic Door Locking Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with Individual Tyre Display Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
You don't have to manually open the boot at all it's completely touch free sensors so don't know what model he's looking at but this info I've added is for the Tucson 2017
Here in Aussie Mazda got a good reviews but the Tucson is much better in terms of value for money. That’s why there’s a lot of them on the road right now. And it’s a good looking car. It’s ride quality is perfect and tuned in Aussie conditions. We got 5yrs unlimited warranty etc. Mazda maybe better in reviews but the Tucson is dominating the road.
I'm not sure where they are but where I'm at you only get two options with the Hyundai 2.0 NA gas engine and 1.6 turbo engine and the No Diesel option on the Mazda either. But you are right, almost all trim models come with the powered gate on the Hyundai here (US)
Mazda wins by far. Hyundai has a nerve to think they can charge so much for their cars when the interiors still look dated and their tech and drivetrain technogy isn't up to scratch yet
I have an older version of the tucson, while the ride is confy coz of the seats, some parts deteriorated quickly. The shock absorbers were replaced, the springs, the door handles are broke, the muffler has a hole under so it’s a bit noisy, interior materials are now in bad condition it react to sweat, to many to mention. I also have a mazda cx5 but with just minor issue.
I bought a 4wd Tucson because Hyundai actually has some rust proofing underbody and Mazda are atrocious for their lack of it. I am an MOT tester in the UK for 30 years and have seen the state of all Mazda's after 4 years
Can you pull out anything to prove it your statement? I'm willing to buy an SUV and I'm really stuck between these two. I can't decide. Honda CR-V somehow I don't like, VOLVO XC40 maybe if I get a good deal, but average too expensive, and forget the other german SUVs for 40-50k euro.
andytnr I had a 2013 Mazda 3 and it has an option for if you want to get it rust proof. I had it for 4 years and not once did it rust and now I own the 2017 CX5 and it’s hands down amazing. I wouldn’t really speak on a car that you don’t own. Remember, not all people take care of their car
Great comparison! Thanks. Both of these are on my shortlist. I would choose the Mazda if they release the diesel in the US, otherwise I've got a few more to check out and compare.
I think in the real world the Mazda will actually perform well and give good fuel economy. Hyundai overrates their engines because they always seem to be underpowered for the stated kw and nm and always use a lot more fuel. Their engineering isn't up there with the rest yet.
Great cars but for that money I would rather buy a demo Toyota Fortuner or Ford Everest that is less than 1 year old and has spent most of its life in a showroom
A used E90 BMW 330i. Still looks good, powefull engine and won't put you into massive debt at about 150k to 180k depending on the year, it is a good choice.
I owned a new top of range Tuscon and sold it as quickly as possible (12mths) because of the poor quality of plastic materials & too many gearbox faults.
I wish the Mazda had a similar 19" wheel design as the 2016 Akera... I'm not too keen on the look of these wheels and btw the Tucson top tier model here in Oz has quite a bit more features than the SA version (sad).
mazda boot is 506 not 440 liters, just sayin, it's a pity u didnt show, how wide the sunroofs really open...the mazda seems to be more expensive but offers more equip for you money, if u configure them, u will see, they are priced similarly.
I drive a Kia, which is, in a nutshell, a Hyundai. What I have noticed is that, although the Kia/Hyundai group has come a long way, they just feel a bit last generation compared to some rivals. Small things like automatic windscreen wipers are always left out. It's 2017 Hyundai! Wakeup!
Euhm the automatic windscreen wipers come as standard on the base model of the Tucson which was released in 2015. I'm afraid, that it's your information that's feels a bit outdated...
ya they forgot it b/c hyundai is the faster car. this review was made to make the cx-5 great and the tucson inferior. the review speaks for itself as they use a top trim cx-5 vs a entry level tucson.
I have a base Tucson that's 2 year old, and it has an electronic tailgate. But I'm in Australia. Perhaps your country is different in terms of the models you get. The cx-5 is too small and impractical . The fact that it doesn't have a full size spare wheel, kills it for me. My experience is that latte sipping, chardonnay swilling, trendies buy and drive the cx_5 , around the suburbs. You hardly see them in the real world of SUV driving, in the country, dirt roads, beach, etc. I wouldn't hazard those places with a space saver wheel.
Trust me. Vehicle Dependability Report from J.D Power's database shows that Hyundai Tucson is actually made better quality and higher residual value if compared to Mazda. By the way, Mazda's infotainment system quite old...No Apple Carplay and No Android Auto
doogieAfro ya ok there buddy I am a technician and I know my mechanics and I can tell you that your full of BS , Hyundai’s have big problems with there transmissions and engines heck I got a friend that works for Hyundai and he has done at least a hand full of transmissions on there SUV line and out of the past 4 years I might have done maybe one or two and I even seen some blown engines from your so called bulletproof Hyundai as well . Naaa while your stuck on the side of the road I will be passing you with flying colours 👍🏻
Such strange spec differences - a top spec Tucson in South Africa is still front-wheel drive? And no electric tailgate, LED headlights, auto wipers, nor bigger wheels? All of those are available overseas. CX-5 absolutely smashes the Tucson.
JFCW cause they think people are dumb and they will not know the other features. I hate it when car companies do that. Mazda does it in the Philippines.
Yup - I watch reviews, rush off to the dealers - only to discover some features are not available - special orders only (Volvo, Audi, Lexus). Quite disappointing.
The Mazda has a special designed hidden space in the trunk to put the cover. You don't need to leave it in the garage. And yes, you missed many things. It has 19 not 18 wheels, high res/contrast touch screen, digital radio, HUD, full LED Lights, auto high beam with indipendent leds shut down, torque vectoring, motorized heated seats with 2 drivers memory and radar cruise control down to 0 km! At least my EU version is like this
