Nice review. I have a 2016 Corolla L and it is a great car and gets excellent highway MPG. Mine has a 4 speed automatic and it easily gets 38 mpg on long highway trips. I bought it new and now it has almost 60,000 miles on it. I have not had any problems with the car at all.

Hi nice preview... i got the 2018 corolla in Beirut Lebanon... 1,8 Litters equipped with a CVT transmission... on an average cruising speed in highways of 80-100 km/hr, my car fuel consumption is 4,7 Litters/100 Km without the air conditioning. With the air condition i am averaging 5,5 L/100 KM

I just bought one 2 weeks ago. At first I think I made a big mistake of choosing the sedan over the IM but I learned that the IM isn't that much practical over the sedan because it's much shorter in length than the sedan and the IM has only the TSS-C while my Corolla sedan has the TSS-P which is superior than the C.

I enjoy your reviews! The reason why the cvt raises the rpms when going downhill is to allow engine braking to slow down the car.

I have a 2017 corolla SE and drove over 180 miles one way to visit family and then back home. . The MPG was topping out at 42.7 MPG. If you ask me, very good car for gas eco. I love my car. The SE trim give you the sport mode. Makes it a little more sporty and more RPM's. Over all its a great car. Thanks for the video. Thought I would share my gas mileage.

@MrCliffda3rd 6 лет назад
The L and LE also have Sport mode, labeled S next to D instead of (M)anual off the SE. It (SE) just have a separate sport mode button.

I love my car tons. I had a 2007 ford focus manual before I got my Toyota. I would get about 322 mpg. And this one takes the cake. Best record so far is 386 mpg. I think all models of the Corolla are great. Its a great car over all. Again, love my car. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

great review! As a new owner your descriptions are awesome thanks!! I went through a tank fairly fast only about 24mpg and I was trying to be easy on the gas.. I have found that this car I have the base model LE definitely is a green light car in that if you barely touch the gas the car seems to know the speed to travel and I have rarely had to stop at a red light.. It is comfortable as well in that my low back is not tired after sitting for a while so far.. Again great review!! I will try to get 41!

The answer as to why your engine revs when going downhill (on cruise or not): When going downhill, gravity accelerates your car, driving the wheels faster, which in turn drives the engine faster. This is independent of the throttle, as you can have your foot all the way off the pedal. When doing this, you are essentially cycling air through the motor, with little to no fuel burning. It won't increase your fuel consumption in that sense. Second, it is a myth that driving on cruise results in better fuel economy. Yes, when the highway is completely "flat". driving on cruise is a good thing, but even with a slight hill, take it off the cruise if you want to improve fuel economy. Third, EPA gives lower fuel economy figures indeed. It doesn't surprise me that you get 40 mpg with sensible (!!) driving. On highways I can get close to 40 in my 2016 Camry. I scored on average over 43 mpg with my 2018 Avalon after 21 months of ownership, and with my current Lexus LS500H (that's hybrid) I am in the mid 32's, which is high for a 350 hp car. In all cases, I am beating EPA figures by quite a margin. This is normal/conservative driving with only a quick acceleration in case of need (like merging on a highway if a sucker doesn't want to let me in). Standing start acceleration (0-60) I never do as I find that irrelevant. So with conservative and smart driving, the regular Corolla makes the new Corolla hybrid complete unnecessary. The Corolla is a bargain commuter!

Its reving so high because you have transmission in S and not D. Many people think S is for sport mode but its not on this model of Corolla.

"S" stand for sequential mode,I learned that on my tundra. Fun to drive still but not close to manual.

i rented a 2016 le. i swear it goes quicker than my base 2.2 Cobalt with 155hp and they both weigh the same. i guess cvt can outdo the ancient 4 speed auto. lol

It's not too shabby .. but the exhaust I have to sadly say sounds like juggling a bucket of bolts. Great review and angles for the engine sounds and 0-60 though!

Engine braking to maintain speed...
@CJ-wc6lf

Terrible break in. For the first around 500 or more miles is break in to where you don't want to go over around 3,500 RPM
@IntoTheLightAstrology
@IntoTheLightAstrology 6 лет назад
For modern cars it doesn't seem so cut-and-dry about the break-in period as it was once upon a time. The dealers will tell you it isn't necessary, not that they should be trusted, but still... I worry less about that knowing that most cars have been test driven, and most people tend to check out 'what she can do' on a test drive.
@gschaaf713
@gschaaf713 6 лет назад
Christopher Jones doesnt know what hes talking about. The dealer will specifically tell you that its not necessary to break in the engine on this vehicle. I purchased one new. Also, when breaking in a vehicle 3500 rpm is perfectly fine. You do however need to break in the tires and brakes.

you should never accelerate a car like that right after starting it.

The corolla road noise is completely out of hand. If you buy one, get it dampened, otherwise you will lose your hearing over time. I already had to set up an appointment with my hearing doctor.

SHANE SWEENEY, sorry... but you are funny though, you really made me laugh because I can relate to you with my 2017 nissan altima SR. I think I'm loosing my hearing too!😂

While quieter than the previous generations of Corolla, and quieter than my last 3 cars before it (Nissan Cube, Toyota Yaris, Honda CRV) I found the factory tires were a big part of the problem. The first thing I did was sell those and bought a Yokohama tire highly rated for roll resistance and ride (which would seem to be contradictory qualities). It quieted some. Unlike my other cars, rather than wind noise this one is mostly road noise (hence change in tires) but I really like the idea of whatever it is you are referring to. Is dampening an insulation underneath? What does it cost?

This car cannot come close to my 2017 Honda Civic EX hatchback. No wayyyyyy!
@IntoTheLightAstrology
@IntoTheLightAstrology 6 лет назад
Not sure in what measure you mean. They are fully incomparable cars! The EX is virtually a sports car. Two very different driving experiences, different price points, different comfort levels, and especially important for many of us, big difference in build quality. My mechanic neighbor has one, which of course he loves. But he is pissed at at the build. Its been in the shop a number of times in the first few months (not saying everybody has had this luck) in part because he knows enough to know that Honda was giving him a run-around, not wanting to do the correct repairs for what he claims is a manufacturing flaw in the... I can't recall. Anyway, it has awesome styling and performance, a distinct class from the Corolla...

Hi, I just purchased a 2017 toyota corolla 5/27/2017, with 7 miles. and I notice the revel in the engine also when i have the cruse set and I'm going down a hill. Like Clayton Hoskinson stated The Engine braking to maintain speed. Scared me at first, but I guess that's what it does. But I love the car, just hated to go in dept for another one, but had to get rid of the bemmer
@IntoTheLightAstrology

Good call on the change of car. I bought a low mileage 2016 (was a lease car) as a CPO. I got the ECO upgrade for $14,967. I thought that was a smokin deal for a call that still looks and *smells* new. :-) Regarding the engine braking, I prefer to take advantage of some of those hills (if conditions permits) and so I pause the cruise control and allow it speed up, lower the revs. Sometimes I even put it in neutral on a downhill: overdrive!

You don't measure mpg with 2.5 gallon added!

Driving 70 is not going to gain good MPGs. 38 is pretty great for driving so fast. I wonder what 55-60 would mean? Hopefully around 42 Plus? IS this the LE, or LE Eco?
@IntoTheLightAstrology
@IntoTheLightAstrology 6 лет назад
This was an Eco (which I have) and driving 55-60 will do around 45 mpg. On the flip side, in town stop-and-go is a killer. I got 28 on one tank when I did only shorter distance stop-and-go driving.

Are you sure you calculated your MPG correctly? I have the SE and the info system on the dash is color and shows the average mpg and can be reset by pressing a button on the steering wheel. Unlike the LE, there is no button on the dash. The SE has a few upgraded features not on the LE

The ECU computed MPG is usually very wrong. Use Fuelly with 10 data points.

I have an ECO model, which is not the same, but nearly so. Compared to prior Corollas it is quieter and smoother riding, and while handling is just OK, it is still an improvement over past models. And once you get up above 10mph it accelerates better than most cars getting that kind of fuel economy. An exception is the very competitive Kia Forte.

Hi , thnx for the video , i would like some information about the same car , i purchased a corolla Le 2017 and it is terrible for fuel consumption , although it is only 33,000 miles , i need 18 liters for a 100 km (CITY) , I NOTICED that the ECO pilot does't go on at the dash board before ignition , normally like other pilots when they appear and after 3 seconds all switches off , any idea if anything is uninstalled !!!

Using cruise control to test the miles was kinda bad for a review. Cruise control keeps the car at a contest stage that uses less gas, rather than manually pressing on the acceleration and having you adjust because we all do t drive perfectly. It's always one mile or more from what speed you want.
