I'll sum up 11:33 minutes of vid into a few sentences. It pays ( paid) to wait. The old adage from legacy manufacturer days of never buying a first year vehicle still holds true today. Seals, roofs, gaps, paint , seats have all gotten much better than initial Model 3 production. Early adopters always beware. I went from a LR RWD to a AWD DMP and the differences over two years are dramatic.
savagecub no, I paid $15 k less than what the original Model 3 Dual Motor Performance sold for ($82k) in fall 2018. My LR RWD was more than my Model 3 DMP.

@@vidar9778 My father bought it new in 2013, then I bought it from him in early 2019. The Model 3 feels way newer and nimbler. I prefer a harder and more exciting ride. Also, the sound system and seats are much better in my opinion
I‘m also a fan of Tesla, but that a car that expensive after 50k miles still drives like a new one shouldn’t be worth mentioning 🤔 My parents got a fiat panda with 120k miles, no problems at all...
Almost every day there was a subtle change with the Model 3. I remember seeing the changelog. From literally screws to foglights, headlights, even (takeway of) floor panels. Almost everything has changed from the car. Most for the better.
You totally missed the step up in build quality between the 2019 and the 2020 models. There were also "downgrades" in terms of no grocery hooks and no frunk mats anymore ...
For what it's worth. I visited the Stockport, UK Tesla outlet the other day. just to look around. I strolled around the new cars waiting for delivery and even though i used to be a car salesman so have the "eye" for these things, i couldn't spot a blemish, dust spot or any panel misalignment on any of the 5 M3s sat there. The lady inside says she reckons about 2 in every 50 cars need any form of aftersales attention at all now. Almost all of which is a while you wait quick buff or 5 minute fiddle by the technician. Noticably better quality than even late last year. They cetainly all looked perfect from what I could see. Several transporters were coming and going, and they all seemed to have older model x cars on. not sure if they are being collected for service, end of lease or whatever.
Seen the local Facebook groups with Model 3, I've seen a lot of people complain about the quality, not a day goes by.... the paint, the gaps and lots of other stuff that Tesla refuses to fix "since its inside their normal measurements"..... I'm still holding my money.
8:31 For my 2018 LR RWD, I purchased "Enhanced Autopilot". This is no longer available and includes Summon, Autopark, Navigate on Autopilot. Additional cost for FSD obviously.
@@luludvega well yeah, but I guess they were not active or in the bundle I bought so now I can get them turned on for 300$. The car is like software. The code is there but people have to license each part to enjoy it all. Or buy the entire package up front.
@@derkaderkamohamadallaackbarnut the SR+ version always had the rear seat heaters installed, but they where not activated (1 of the differentiators) with the "premium" interior of the LR versions, now they let you buy the software upgrade to activate those heaters
For what it's worth--significant improvement in your speech delivery recently. I used to cringe slightly at the blatant forced 'clarity' or slowed pace in your voice, now you come off as much more natural which makes for better listening experience.
So the one pedal driving option is available on the Model 3? I heard about it in a Model Y video and wasn't sure if it was unique to that model or not.
John Vanderbeck it was an over-the-air update for Model 3. Called “Hold Mode”. Got the update soon after my car was delivered in 2019 and haven’t used the brakes at all since. :)
@harry camper I'm not sure they've done anything really. I know Elon tweeted that they were looking into it late last year but not seen anything about an improvement.
It's an admirable package of technology, but by your own words of *BUILT*, you need to stop gagging on Elon there bud. Their build QC is in the malaise GM range. It is unacceptable, for the $50,000+ you pay them, for Tesla to regularly deliver cars with body panel gaps in excess of 1/4", with body panels whose paint obviously doesn't perfectly match, and with fit and finish that would make a 1981 UAW worker blush. Yet they do. Worshiping them as if they can do no wrong doesn't incentivize them to improve.
Interior sound level: Chinese complained about the interior road noise and have stated that they made some improvements to remedy this issue. Did this improvement transfer to US Tesla Model 3?
When you say "basic auto pilot is now standard with all model 3s" that is indeed true. However the visual you show is Navigate on AutoPilot which is part of the FSD package, and not part of the AP that comes with every car
This video didn’t mention two of the major 2017 and 2018 Model 3 complaints: the overly stiff ride and the high amount of road and wind noise coming into the interior. Consumer Reports complained about these issues in their review of the Model 3 and Elon conference called with them and promised that it would be improved . But was it really?

It’s possible to get a standard range rear wheel drive model 3 in 2020. You order the standard range plus and before you pay you call Tesla give them the vin and they can order the standard range for you!
Do you know if that stereo is the same as the standard range plus? I don’t mind 210 of range because sometimes my Honda at full tank shows 210-300 depends. I’m never taking the standard range on a long road trip just for work and commuting around local cities.

Martin Berntsen same for me. When I ordered, they were there, when I received my M3 they were gone! This way of doing business is very bad. Tesla can do better.
New rim options, New door handle mechanisms, faster MCUs, changed the seats slightly, new autopilot computers, different roof tinting process, added batches and eliminated the silver color option.
I don't think anyone has brought up that the fabric-covered hole in the trunk deck has been eliminated. Recommended tire pressure changed. There's no longer a "dead pedal" up front, just carpeting. Also, the alignment of the headlamp enclosures is different (slight more flush). Plus, the trim on the dash right abover the steering column is different. The big thing is they are going to make their own cells. They bought Maxwell, and Hibar, and now they are hiring cell engineers. Elon said he wants to increase battery production 30x. I would not be surprised if they made more than one type of chemistry, and more than one kind of format, at least in their labs. We'll see what makes it into vehicles and powerwalls/powerpacks/megapacks.
I've heard the build and paint quality has improved for 2020 as well as reduced cabin noise. I hope this is the case, I just ordered a Standard Range Plus 2 days ago and looking out for the confirmation emails. I'm really excited about this car, the test drive I took of one was great. I hope that holding out a few years was a wise move.
Had to get my rear window replaced on my 2018 m3 yesterday due to a stress fracture. Was replaced with the dark grey glass. Made me v sad lol. Still have the reflective red on the front though,
The only One actually, they don't. You won't see it if you're not in a cold weather environment. I see it daily in winter and it dramatically reduces regen braking.
I think their pricing and ordering on line is very misleading. I wanted a model 3 and went on line. The price shows $35,960 for the SR+. With an *. When you go to the the * they are showing a price with "potential incentives and gas savings". They show gas savings as $4300. The actual price of the car is $39,990. They do this same trickery with the monthly payment as well, showing the monthly payment with built-in savings due to estimated gas savings. Am I missing something or is this totally deceitful? They should just show the price of the car and the correct payment.
Well, since you figured it out and the savings were clearly stated, and with a click of the mouse you are seeing the actual price I wouldn't call it deceitful. It's a sales tool that allows you to calculate your cost to own.
Pretty sure it was the first functional prototype. They didn't bother making everything as the final form, just wanted it functional in order to test the core parts of the car. I always assumed it was wrapped with matte black vinyl so they didn't even have to paint it before testing. This is just the ramblings of some random dude on the internet and not guaranteed fact.
Everything at Tesla improves dramatically. All the time. Every day. Look at the history of the car industry. They are facing something they are not used to doing.
Got my P3D in 2018, and it's still my favorite car in the world. I just got the AP3 hardware upgrade, which is amazing. The display is way more accurate, and Autopilot feels tighter. It's been several weeks since we got an update, and they keep talking about the first release version of Nav on Street. I'm very curious to see what it will be able to handle, and not handle. Also, if they drop a massive battery improvement in ~April I hope we can pay for an upgrade... if it's a game changing battery.
I reserved a model 3 when they first were introduced on April 1, 2016 and took delivery in June 2018. It is a great car and I agree it has many more features now that have been added through regular software updates by wifi. My only regret is not having the four wheel drive as they weren't making them then. Nicest car I have ever owned! I have reserved a cybertruck lol.
One thing that your video does not make clear. Many of these changes were software fixes and were rolled out to current owners. I own a 2018 Model 3, and obviously, I don't have the Gen 2 seats, but the navigate on autopilot, advanced summon, increase in range and even one update to increase power were all free upgrades rolled out over the air.
One thing i’d note is you actually can’t buy a standard range tesla anymore. The base model available is the standard range plus. Overall good video though! Very thorough.
Over the air updates is such a game changing ownership feature for Teslas, I'd be shocked if this isn't something traditional car makers strive for in the future.
at least in Europe they removed the HomeLink Feature since 2019. As far as I know, this cannot be added as an option but has to be installed after the purchase.
JohnnyZenith why on earth are you expecting matrix LEDs? The only car that has them is Audi. It isn’t necessary. The car is a balance between family and sports and does not need a HUD. And the styling is slick, not boring.. you ask for too much.
Ateeb a hud would be nice for people who don’t want to look over at the screen for their speed. They don’t cost much and add a level of safety to not have to take your eyes off the road for that bit. Also stop being such a Tesla fanboy... styling is boring and beaten out by many other cars in the last few years.
@@jamieplays3552 I've driven a Model 3 for 2 years now. Looking at the screen in the middle is exactly zero issue. It takes the same amount of time to glance at a binnacle behind the wheel. The benefit of having AC blow at you through the steering wheel is an advantage that outweighs the negatives of the center screen. Nobody talks about that.
I wish Tesla would change the piano black finish on the centre console, it shows finger prints and tiny scratches - a black carbon fibre effect finish would look far better, modern, and be much more practical. Here in Europe a hatchback version of the M3 would be welcome - call it the M3H! and perhaps a station wagon / estate version - call it the M3S? They don't need to do this of course - they can sell every car they make, but in the future I would love a station wagon M3
Hmm. You missed a lot more unfortunately. Tesla has discontinued the silver color, and the rims on the red car shown at introduction are nowhere to be found unfortunately.
Still happy I had the patience to wait for the LR RWD to come back. Was so close to getting the LE MR and ended up getting the LR for $43k. Then just about a month later the price went up a couple thousand. Pulled the trigger at the right time. Coming up on one year on the 16th of March and 19k miles later with no issues other than the A/C smell, fixed that myself.
now if only they would decrease the rims and increase the tire lengths....i feel like i will break those on a daily drive, also some buttons on the steering wheel would be fucking great
you made an error- standard autopilot isn't free now, they just bundle it into the base price of the model 3. It costs $3K just the same as before. The way you have pricing listed makes it look like autopilot/FSD prices have gone down when in fact they have gone up (FSD went from costing about 8k--> 10k).
The base cost remains similar or lower in 2020 than 2017, so basically it's the same. In 2017, base cost + $3000 + $ 4000 = base cost + $7000. In 2020, nearly same base cost(including auto-pilot) + $7000. The over-all cost is similar or less in 2020 and not $3000 more. So it can be considered free. Essentially only car costs $3000 less which offsets the $3000 increase which you say happened.
Quite a few challenges coping in parts of the world where winters last long, whether it’s shorter mileage or door handle issues in cold climates when rain or wet snow freezes over
Really? They love them in Norway so far. I'm in Canada and we get a fair amount of snow and cold winters and I know one friend with a M3 and he has no complaints. You do have to make some adjustments to the new tech, but that's mere adaptation. Some winter conditions can be a challenge for anyone and I sold enough gas line anti freeze and lock deicer as kid pumping gas to know.
Lensflare Deviant not denying the good or ignoring bad realities, mileage and freezing door handles are a few things displayed on you tube, personally don’t own one also not a stock investor, love all the marketing tactics though, unfortunately these cars are not meant for average people, seeing the possibility of having diesel operated things such as construction trucks and big boats switching to electric is more exciting, planes would be very special as well, luckily battery technology is improving by the day, sadly that means all these Tesla’s etc will be less appealing unless designs will allow for upgrade options of coarse
I took delivery of my first Telsa, a Model 3 in October of 2019, and was sad to see after it rained, It didn't turn orange on the roof. So I guess I have the new coating.
Not to forget the vastly increased number of superchargers now available! Ok, so doesn't affect the car itself, but massively impacts the ownership experience.
You forgot cycle life, and C rate. All of those are nice to have. For cars, price is probably most important, but for robotaxis, and semis, cycle life is huge too. Weight is most important for planes, but helps cars too, and motorcycles a lot. C rate helps charging speed, but when the pack is big, you can already charge pretty fast. For stationary storage, cycle life, and cost is most important. Obviously, it shouldn't catch fire.
You always have been able to get the LR RWD model 3. It comes with the "Standard Interior" You can only order it over the phone. This is what i've heard and not fact checked. But i'm fairly certain im correct.
correction: early models that bought "FSD" on 2.5 hardware still have to pay to upgrade to HW 3.0. Not as much as someone now paying to get Advanced autopilot/FSD but still a cost to change up. I have a July 2018, I bought the full spec LR RWD (at the time, before performance and AWD were announced) and I still had to pay an extra 3k to get the 3.0 cpu which was installed last week. (2k if you bought early discount) and now is a 5K option to older models. But it's great that Tesla doesn't go by the "build it and forget it" model everyone else goes by. The fact that the new cpu slots right in the same port but is magnitudes faster and uses less power is why i love their thinking and design. The free upgrades I've received since new are just staggering! The VW eGolf i had previous was outdated before it left the lot and was no different 4 years later..
Not in Canada... It's an almost $11,000 upgrade if you got Autopilot but know FSD update. Glad I passed since apparently such FSD won't be approved for another 5-6 years, and my 2018 will be a 8-9 years old by then and I will have moved on to a future Tesla or other EV by then. Hahaha.
They got rid pr the two best colours (silver and Matt grey) and that got rid of the best wheels as shown on the red car on stage. They also persisted with chrome instead of chrome delete.
In 2020 Autopilot technically is optional is you order the Standard Range Model 3 which is about a $4000 savings. I know cause I ordered my Standard Range for $35k and getting it in about 2 weeks.
@@Cleanerwatt Tesla confirmed I will be limited by 20 miles. However they stated I can still "upgrade" to the Standard Range Plus since its all software limited.
Good comparison but suggest mentioning @ 6:15 that the efficiency increases are due to firmware improvements, not model year e.g. they apply to all years. The way your chart reads (to me) is that the 2020 versions are faster and more efficient than the previous years, but 2018 and 19 got the same firmware updates and improvements.
well the basic autopilot is not exactly free. That's actually the main difference between the 35k model and the standard range plus model. So the basic autopilot costs around 3k-4k. Between FSD, tesla offers another package that is the enhanced autopilot but now they are not offering it anymore.
