doug the type of guy to pull a gun on a robber with a knife, then hold the robber at gun point while he goes over all the robber's quirks and features until the cop gets there
I drove one of these and I will have one at the first opportunity. That electric powered acceleration is thrilling and just one of the many reasons to have it! The auto pilot is impressive also.
I've watched this video like 5 times on this point over the years. And I'm watching it now...and I own an AWD Model 3...yeah that's how you know you've made a good video lol
@@demerzel3798 tell me when electric car will have real engine sound, i will be able to modify it at my house, it will charge 2 minutes or less, range will be same as Vauxhall astra diesel, chargers will be everywhere, they will cost same amount of money as their petrol car competitor. And Lamborghini coud do it but people who buy them are real petrol heads (not urus, that is for rich soccer mums) that want to drive and hear engine noise. And in next couple of years more than 80% of cars will have full self driving as standard or as optional extra.
Marcus Jarrell Tesla is growing strong in California too almost everywhere I go Tesla literally right there I love mopar cars aka v8 cars but i think I want a model 3 as my first car for now then upgrade to model x and a mopar car
They should've had the speedometer as a hologram in the bottom left corner of the windshield. Some cars today already do this and it would've helped with Tesla's "futuristic" vibe
its painfilly obvious they produced this car as cheap as possible. elon musk is really giving the middle finger to the middle class, people need to reject the model 3. no physical door handles in the back? lack of a competent UI for basic functions? no heads up or second screen for speed and blinkers? painfully cheap absolutely no consideration given to human interaction when designing UI. and you cant open the trunk when charging? yet another glaring oversight in this cheap poorly designed POS. absolutely no consideration given to functionality or ease of use. none.
lack of physical door handles in the back...but why the heck would you need one. Even the front ones are clearly for emergency situations and in case the battery goes dead. How many times does it happen in the lifetime of the car?Maybe once, twice? if it is an emergency, they or you can simply break the glass and get out. If the battery is dead, well, they climb to the front - once/twice in 10 years. Speedometer - you are right, it should be somewhere in the middle. Blinkers, not so sure - does tesla give an audible signal when the blinkers are on? Then it is more than enough (i do not see the blinkers in our BMW either as the wheels are set to my wife's preference - I just hear them). About not being able to open the trunk while charging - I am not sure it is true. The video said, you cannot open the charging door when the trunk is open (not the same). Even if this is true, I am not sure this is a huuuge issue. First, tesla has two trunks - you can put stuff in the front trunk. Second, most people, in most cases will charge their car at night, at home. Majority of the occasions, they will not charge them at charging stations...
SuperSuccessfulTroll The point of this car is not to be a luxury car, but to be an EV car for the masses. The price tag of $35000 makes decent EV cars available to a whole new demographic that couldn't afford the model s/x. And when it comes to all the controls being on the screen I'm a big fan. It gives the possibility of making the UI better adding extra features at any point in time with just a software update. And to be honest the UI right now are miles ahead of any other car screen system. When it comes to quality Doug seemed impressed, but I guess we'll have to see in long run.
Ivan Gutierrez yeah that seemed a little odd, given that the low centre of gravity and even weight distribution probably gives it stability that few sedans could match. He talked about great steering precision, too. I guess it’s hard when you’re trying to score handling against two-seat sportscars cars that have a lot more feel and engagement for the driver
handling is great for a medium size "none sporty oriented" sedan, but is 5/10 because Doug use supercars handling as 10/10 like acceleration, an offroad vehicle can be quick and get just 2/10 because for an off road vehicle is quick but 10/10 is model S P100D/top end supercar level of acceleration
Tesla models: S,3,X,Y The only company who made a Sex joke all across it’s models for a couple of years as an easter egg, then Puts up Y so all the models now spell Sexy. I wonder what’s next.
Seriously. Why is something as simple as opening the glove box something that has to be done through a menu on the tablet? Hell why just the glove box? Why not the center console arm rest compartment? The phone-hiding and other storage panels in the center console? The arm-rest/cup holder in the backseat? "Oh? What's that? you guys back there want an arm rest? Here, let me get that for you here by going through a series of menus. This car is great!"
A great solution I'd like to see would be a HUD (Heads-Up-Display). This would give you the option to have old-school gauges right in front of you. Heck, it could even be customizable!!!
One thing to factor into the "Doug score" for styling is it's comparison to every other EV out currently. It doesn't look like a clown car. It just looks like.. a car. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
@željko šimić The Model 3 speedometer, which is the only thing on the screen that is used relatively often, is highly visible. It's large, bright, high up and immediately next to the hand on the steering wheel. In fact it's higher and clearer than a speedometer down in a dashboard. No one who has actually driven a Model 3 has difficulty seeing the speedometer.
Travis Sellers I actually currently live in Florida. While I can see where you’re coming from, I’d say Florida drivers are just old and distracted rather than incapable.
Important to know during a rainy day, do not open the rear trunk as the water would reflect to the windshield and fall inside your trunk. Tesla never thought of this and the rain gutter isn't good.
She must be another RU-vid Jew boy there "car's" ir iPods as I call them are for cuckholds and 💩💩pushers like the guy who runs Facebook imma keep burning by diesel and Petrol either way thanks 👍
A Dog excited to see your kids share the same faith we're all going to die one day anyway I wouldn't think of a better place than in my Diesel or petrol car
I like it a lot. Tons of fun to drive and every passenger I’ve taken in it has been blown away by it. When I was washing it for the first time however, I noticed some imperfections in the paint job that kind of bummed me out. There’s little dots without paint in a few places on the car, not noticeable unless you’re looking for it but I’m still going to take it in to see if they’ll fix it.
I remember watching this when it came out thinking I would never be able to own a model 3 or any Tesla for that matter. Fast forward 6 years and I finally can say I bought one.
I remember balking at the idea of a $40-50k car being "affordable". Fast forward to three days ago, I was reading about how the used prices have cratered. I did some math and found it would be cheaper to finance a used Model 3 than to keep driving my _paid-for_ gas car (given that I can charge for free at work). Also, that math assumed gas prices would stay at $5 and my aging gas car would never need major repairs-neither of which are true. It was not a difficult decision at that point.
It is. Tesla designed this car as if self-driving would be legal when it finally gets built in bulk (laughs). Until then it is a stupid design decision, but I have a feeling it was more for cost-cutting instead. Tesla is doing what Apple does best; take away features, and then goes to a million reasons why it is a good idea. Tesla fanboys however would gobble up everything their god Elon says however.
A ~$20k Mazda 3 comes with a dashboard & for a few thousand more, a HUD standard. Why does a ~$40k compact executive luxury sedan doesn't is beyond me. Don't try to defend greedy decisions.
Aquilam true, but he was reviewing the Long Range rather than the Performance model :) so 0-60 for him was 5.something seconds and I suppose lots of cars can do that now (still sounds very fast to me, I’m happy with 7.something!)
@@alexshepherd I forgot to check the variable specs for the first generation (Model 3), now with updates the base model does 0-60 in 5.3 (still quick), long range does in in 4.4s, and performance model does it in 3.2s - which would be in exotic car territory for under $50k.
Tom SoulSplit he definitely didn’t change it for that reason. He wanted it to be an E but couldn’t. He claims ford killed sex. I figured it was the ford Vans though E-150- E-350 and not an electric car.
The car has preset profiles so you get in, click your name, then the seat, steering wheel, and mirrors automatically adjust to your preset it’s amaxing
The Model 3 is the best car I have ever driven by several levels of magnitude. I am a former hot rodder, motorcycle racer, street rod builder and I will never go back. The car is the most fun, most reliable, most simple, most comfortable, most connected to the road vehicle I have ever experienced by far. Did I mention easy and time saving? I come home, take 2 minutes to plug in and wake up fully changed. I look forward to every trip to the grocery store or ride to a client meeting or just a trip around the block. It's like riding a roller coaster ever time I get in as a bonus to getting somewhere efficiently and with ease.
BMW X1's even had a decent heads up. I'm going to be in the market for a Model 3 in about 3 years, so I'm really hoping they work these little kinks out by then.
in about 3yrs i'm going to buy Lexus EV with the lvl4/5 autonomy.... in the next 3-5yrs Ford and Toyota is planing to launch cars that would be better than the Model 3 in every way.... and it'll be cheaper... this Model3 is what is going to make or break Tesla, there is no more chances for Tesla...
My dad ordered one and after watching this my excitement for it to be delivered next summer sky rocketed Edit: 28:05 I live in maryland my parents are from and grew up in boston and nyc so theyre good drivers but when we moved to maryland 10 years ago, i complained so much about drivers, THEY SUCK SO MUCH
In the U.k. Gas is $6.50 a gallon. So the electricity costs 25% the cost of gas. And no road taxes. Also you didn't mention the government/local discounts.
That would make the car more complicated. They had enormous hassles with the unnecessary complexity of the model X - they've taken the right approach with the 3...
Never forget it when getting IN the car, but I forget my phone all the time getting OUT which is horrific because it means 1) the car isn't locked and 2) anyone could just get in and drive away. Thankfully I've gotten in the habit of checking my pocket and I have never gone too far from the car before realizing but yeah I wish I could find some way to make sure I don't forget it in the car.
The most American made car! Not sure why red-blooded Americans hate Tesla so much. My Model 3 is the best thing I have ever owned. AND 83% of the parts (and the car) are made in the U.S.A.
Ritschye Cause it’s stupid to call it a “non-American car” when it’s about as American of a car you can get. There are reasons to dislike the car but it makes no sense to say “I don’t like the car and/or Tesla because it isn’t American”.
I feel that, while it might be annoying in regular use, features like heated seats, navigation, climate control, and media controls are somewhat excusable to not have tactile controls but dome lights, headlights, and the parking brake are inexcusable. Its kinda dumb if this multimillion dollar company can't dish out a couple more dollars per car to put in some plastic buttons in order to do basic functions.
Gabriel Ribeiro lol that's different I understand things change over time but it's also making everyone lazy sometimes you can learn a skill that isn't really necessary but it's still good to have it just so you can say you know how to do
when you about to go away from your car but it havent locked yet and you see someone that tries to steal the car (starts running faster away from the car)
Avi RBLX What's stopping the thieves from stealing everything in your car then? The Model 3 key feature is flawed and you know it. The car will only lock when you walk a specific distance away. What if you never notice someone opens your door as you walk away? Is the owner suppose to walk backwards to make sure the car is locked before he/she fully walks away? Like I said in my comment, the phone app key made the key less functional. Its so much easier to lock the car and walk away. This way *YOU KNOW* its locked when you leave.
I learned a good deal, from this review. I have always liked Tesla, but I did not know much about this car. I like it a lot, but like the S better. I could maybe see owning a Tesla one day. Good job Doug.
Your Barber - Absolutely - you just have to go ahead and test drive one. I ended up renting a 2018 Model S from enterprise at SFO. Got a great deal at $65/day because apparently LOTS of people are actually SCARED to drive these!! They couldn’t get the car rented to pay for itself. After a few miles of adapting to electric you will get the hang of it. Very nice. Just ignore all the Ferraris, Mustangs, and Chargers revving their engines on the 101 trying to race you.
I feel like it would be pretty annoying to have to navigate a menu and small buttons on a touch screen while driving to do anything. Especially on a bumpy road or something. Talk about distracted driving. Still it's pretty cool.
orbits2 haha exactly. At least with real buttons and what not you can just feel for them and press them. Not have to look around a screen and maybe accidently hit something.
Does anybody else hear a little Jay Leno in Doug's voice? I have heard it on more than one occasion. It is usually when he is inside the car trying to talk more softly. Either way, keep up the awesome content!
Surprised there’s no HUD for the gauge cluster. Especially for a car like that! That way all the information is all right in front of you and you don’t have to look down to the side for that stuff.
So if this car somehow gets submerged how are your backseat passengers going to get out? If Elon Musk can't even think of this I'm not trusting him with designing MY car. REPLY
Faheem Jamaloodeen mate. How often does your car get submerged. Now think about how often cars crash... This is the safest car out there. There might be a one in 10,000 chance of getting submerged and there’s also a great chance that there is no one in the back. Meanwhile it’s very likely to be in a car crash.
"Autopilote isn't really an exiting thing anymore. Everyone know about it" God damm imagine saying that just 10 years ago. The revolution is here people.
Keeps on improving, learning. Way beyond Mobileye. And the car will talk to pedestrians K.I.T.T. style! twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1216198285792358400
This is first video of Doug's I've seen. Been a year and a half since then, and I've been watching every single video of his ever since. Gonna re-watch this, Ah, the nostalgia.
Honestly it seems almost expected in this car ... like this is one car that a heads up display would fit perfectly.... but I guess Tesla didnt think so lol
Doug, the type of guy who claims he's 6'-3'' in literally every other video but gives himself an extra inch in this one because he knew it'd get a lot of views... 12:01
My buddy is 6’4. We sat in it and I can confirm there is enough headroom. The seats are low due to the size of the battery. I’d prefer it higher with less headroom but he was happy with it. Long trips wouldn’t be ideal, but there’s no way he’d be able to do a long road trip in my 4 series gran coupe anyway, waaaay less headroom.
@@malmsteen-jf5ov the quality of FM radio far exceeds most MP3's. However I suspect if you're wasting your money on a Tesla, you've also dumped your kids college fund into iTunes.
83 mile trip to Toronto in one of these recently, by a volunteer driver. Its the first EV I have ever been in. Noise level is average BUT the cool factor is outstanding. Felt confident and safe in it. Doug, you're on the mark with this one.
Thanks for the review. You should consider raising your "value" score to reflect the lower maintenance and fuel costs. (no oil changes, no brake jobs, electricity costs 1/2 as much as gas for driving) Also, for people who are concerned about global warming, there is an added value in knowing you aren't emitting CO2 any more.
rwolf01 Electric cars still use Co2. Just think about where your power is coming from. In many cases it comes form Fracking, and Coal burning. While it lowers the amount of Co2 you put into the Atmosphere, it still doesn’t eradicate all fossil fuels.
James Heathcote that mainly depends on where you live sine if you live in California or around the Pacific Northwest most power either comes from natural gas or hydro electric plants
Yes, but dirty electricity sources can be replaced. Solar, wind, hydro and geothermal are all carbon neutral. A dirty coal plant is a problem no matter how the electricity is being used. So the issue is the plant, NOT the car.
The single best thing about TESLA is that, true to Elon Musk's plan, TESLA has sparked panic in all other car manufactures to also produce all electric cars. Thanks to TESLA for blazing the trail for the future of cars in the world!
No, I'm saying that TESLA has "Blazed The Trail", and now all of the major car companies (9 of them to date have full electric cars in production for 2019 and 2020) are following TESLA's lead. They will, sooner or later, catch and pass TESLA; and that is a very good thing and all part of Elon Musk's plan.
