You forgot to say it SOUNDS so much better than the new 'so-called' economy Porsche 4 cilinders. Maybe even better than the Ferrari 8 cilinder turbo's.

If u think about it, the aftermarket stereo is better. When in a couple years, it becomes obsolete, u can just go to stereo shop and buy anything you like, and have it installed in 20 minutes.

A few nerdly corrections to another great review. Lotus didn't certify the European tune for the USA so the engine and gearing are identical to the one in the 400. Also: the gas cap hooks onto the square tab on the hinge of the filler lid. It's not obvious, but that's where it goes when filling. I'm a 400 owner, and your NSX comparison is exactly what I thought and expressed exactly as I would have said it. Good call there. The community has a few 400 owners who previously owned NSXs. I think most of us owners view the Evora as an extension of that sort of approach.. About the GT4 vs Lotus as regards pricing. It's true they cost about the same but unfortunately there are no new GT4s so you pretty much get a used GT4 for the same money as a new 410. New to new, the 400 can be had for about the same money as a well optioned Cayman S. The Evora is a secret compared to the Porsche but it shouldn't be. I think most people would be virtually as well served by a 400 but who wouldn't want a 410? On the streets there's not a big difference between them (and less difference here given they have the same tune) so if a person can live without the Ti exhaust, the Li battery and the carbon, the 400 will deliver the same essential experience. There's nothing that's more fun for the money than an Evora and it's even a proper lightweight GT when you want it to be. It's a regular weapon and more versatile than most people would imagine. Thanks for another great, down to earth review. I'm going to miss the One Takes too but I look forward to your next inventions. I'll see if I can get into watches but upfront I have to say I think I like cars better!

That engine actually comes out of the Avalon.. It's optional on the camry :)

Having spent some time driving these I suspect the issue Matt has with heel/toe is probably programmed in to meet some emissions regs or similar. The car is always happy when it has a few revs on, but not when you are at lower RPM

I would love to have an Evora of any year. I think they are highly underrated.

*This is the CLOSEST you'll ever get to a first gen NSX in a modern car. Manual, v6, mid-engine, great handling.*

Matt, there is a clip for the fuel filler. When you open the fuel flap there is a tab about an inch long that sticks out the side. This fits into a groove around the underside of the filler cap. Took me 2 Evoras and 5 years to realise this though!

Bravo Lotus. This car really started becoming one of the most special cars since the 400. Would probably have it over the GT4 and that says a whole lot. Those Toyota engines are quite a beauty as well, what a wail and I expect they're solid too. That's the car that'll sit close to your heart and make you smile from within...

I feel like I haven't seen you drive that fast in a while Matt! Giving it 100% on the straights more often than not, braking super late, hammering it early in the corners at already high speeds! You've certainly been faster in a straight line with some of the crazy cars you drive, but you seemed really comfortable with approaching the limits of this car in every aspect of the drive and that was really awesome to witness. I think you need to do us and yourself a favor and take this to the track someday!

Great car and super reliable. I like how Lotus focuses on chassis and leaves running gear to others. That formula also helps them meet emission standards more quickly

Great video. I drove the Evora 400 Press car last year and it was amazing, much improved over the first gen Evora. That being said I wish I never sold my 2007 Exige S

I wonder why Toyota doesn't make thier own v6 supercharged 2door sport cars. I'm pretty sure someone in Toyota must've heard about this Evora and realized the potential in the v6 supercharged.

4:00 if Matt wount say how fast "the top end of 4th gear " was, the datasheet says 4th gear at 7500 RPM is 145MPH (!) =)

I love the engine sound!! Im gonna date myself here but it is very much like the sound effect used at the beginning of the old show "Hardcastle & McCormick" back in the early 80s. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

One of the best sports car for the price...used one for less than 50k....saw one for 38k and TOYOTA engine

You can tell that Matt is a really nice guy simply by his demeanor and his attitude. I enjoy watching his videos, and he also is knowledgeable about the vehicles that he drives and he is passionate as well.

Nice Camry :p No really though, too bad Toyota doesn't use the supercharged 2GR in their own cars. And since they use that V6 on so many of them, lots of potential for a whole XRS range (Camry XRS, Highlander XRS, Sienna XRS, Rav4 XRS, Avalon XRS, just to name a few) and even a Lexus ES-F and RX-F!

This is an amazing car, and i am very pleased it has an optional automatic transmission. I'm a double amputee, and a lot of really good drivers cars are only offered with manuals. Like the original NSX you mentioned. I definitely plan to buy cars of this nature in the future.

Too bad Toyota didn't cram this engine into the FR-S. I like the car, but hate the Subie 4 banger. That car with 400 HP would be a very hot seller.

Did you like this more than the Porsche Gt4, also how is the gearing in this vs. the gt4 ? because i have heard that the gearing is really long in the gt4 and that results in using very few gears and the sharkwerks bypass is ridiculously expensive.

The only difference I have noticed between the MPSS and 4S is colder wet roads. The 4S is a better daily tire and equal sport tire.

Wonder if this is the motor that's going to be in the new Toyota Supra?

And still that sucky, outdated infotainment system. I'd just ditch it if I could buy this car, useless anyway with a sound like that!

Because there's nothing about the car to learn (you can trust it to be consistent), does that mean you can pour your attention into learning the road? Might be boring on familiar roads but terrific at going exploring.

Looks like it needs some John player special decals on it.

They ruined the front end; the original Evora's delicate anthropomorphically suggestive oval intake without the this one's ugly side grills and squared-off mouth was much classier. The GT430 Sport's side intakes are a slight improvement over this 410's robo-look.

Regarding Toyota reliability, they have had the worst track record for engines. Huge sludge problems from improperly designed engines from way back in the 3.0L 4Runners and trucks up until recently in Camrys. As a matter of fact, theres a recall on them for excess oil burning and a complete long block rebuild. English chassis and hardware and Toyota engine ***might*** be a recipe for disaster.

I hope these depreciate like mad, cause I'd love to own one someday. A few concerns, though. Safety in a crash? Reliability (other than engine)? And cost to insure vs. comparable Porsche? I suspect when these are in accidents, even minor, they are major dollars to fix. Therefore, I suspect rates are significantly higher than other makes. Hope I'm wrong....

Made a weird comment at the end. 410hp doesn't do it justice for how fast it is? It isn't the HP but the power to wt ratio. I am actually supposed that it isn't quicker than a 3.9 car, given the 991.1 C2S is heavier and only 400hp and much than 3.9.

With the Camry making 300 now I bet that supercharger is pretty low boost, I'm sure with pulley and tune it'll get over 500 no problem.

The GT4 has less power than the Evora, and it's heavier. For my money I'd have the Evora. Except, for my money I'd actually buy a used one for 40k and tune it to 400hp. And still have money left over for a second car.

I remember when the V10, 400HP Viper came out and people lost their minds. Now cars get that out of 1/3 of the displacement, and weigh half as much.

I'll probably never be able to afford this but like others have said it's almost gd perfect. Light weight, reliable engine, 6-speed manual, simple tech, unique. I'm about to take a dump in my Forester and drive it into a lake.

I think we have a true Elise 111R successor. Of course it's about double what the 111R cost back in 2004.

This is a great car. When you add up the entire package and service experience, the cost is hard to swallow. But I'm not a rich guy that can take massive losses on a car purchase. This is where the P car really has a heads up, resale numbers. I'll track down a lightly used Evora someday however. Thanks for the review.

Wow. I'm 24-secs in and that's a breathtakingly good looking car. I've nver seen one in black with the lotus gold pinstriping but that suits it so well. Gorgeous.

I have driven one of these as well #3 of 8. My buddy who has one also has a GT4 and 997.2 GT3 (amount others). True analog fan!!!

I don't care what you think about Matt. Giving such a high quality review while absolutely ripping through the canyons is incredible.

Regarding the gas cap niggle: the cap fits onto the filler lid itself -- assuming it's the same at the 400, anyway. It's a little unintuitive given the angle the whole thing hangs at, but it works.

Loved all your One Takes. Some cool cars, some funny commentary sometimes, and random encounters on the road at times lol. Good luck with your future gig / project.

Seeing the basic interior of this car, the amount of refinement the interior has received, the amazing exterior, and the fact that it has a Toyota Camry engine, just makes me absolutely giddy!

I’m glad lotus is still around and I hope they’re around for a long time to come. That said $105,000 is Carrera S money, end of story.
