I talk about our ownership experience after putting 20,000 miles on our 2018 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD! Timecodes: 0:00 - Intro 0:36 - Everything That Has Broken 2:58 - Saying Goodbye To Our CX-5 4:50 - Our New Car!
Why would you say, "and why we got rid of it"? If you're leasing, of course you're getting rid of it, but then you leased another CX-5. Click bait much? I have a 2013 CX-5 with zero problems. All he really complained about was the seat control.
Actually if you lease you do have a option if you want to keep the car or just return it back to the dealer. If you want to keep the car you have to pay the remaining value of it.
I've owned my 2018 for almost 3 years and just ticked over 100K miles, no issues whatsoever. I do wish the seats were more supportive and at times it feels underpowered but it does most everything else very well. I purchased the car in January of 2018 with 16K miles, next car will most likely also be a Mazda
@@paulandres8979 I have not, dont think it covered my particular car and I've been to dealer a few times for service and never had them mention. I checked various sites also with vin. I'm at 114K miles now
Had a 15' CX 5 and now we have a 2021 CX 5 Carbon Edition ... red leather seats , dark chrome, 2.5 liter eng , moon roof , etc . Absolutely love the ride , the power ... memory seats ... Bose sound system ... bought the car by texting ... no pressure ... Love it
Best car I have ever owned. A point about the other vehicles you referenced. By far, the CX5 has the most cabin room and makes that room available for people. At 6'4", comfort behind the wheel is a premium feature. Add to that highway fuel economy exceeding 34 mpg, after 3 years, plenty of go off a stop which is important at highway on ramps...and you have a winner.
I have a 17 CX5 in the same color. Grand Touring with the upgraded option package which includes head up display, heated steering wheel and rear seats, memory seats. I have 43,000 miles on it. Replaced the original tires this past Tuesday. Runs great. No problem areas. Waiting on the 2022 redo. Great video!
2016 CX-5 GS, 2.5L AWD with 160 000kms. Changed both rear wheel bearings (under warranty) and the four brakes (pads and discs) at around 140 000km. All maintenance jobs done at the stealership and absolutely no issues! Awesome SUV to drive in Quebec winters ✌🏻
@@lewisbrazil5485 rust? Not a single spot and I am in Quebec, where they use a shitload of salt and sand on the roads in winter. They had these issues when the cars were built by Ford in Mexico pre-2012
I had the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and I loved the way it drove. Only complaints I had were that the dashboard (the screen was also too small) wasn't loaded with more tech and the "leather" seats were very hard and uncomfortable.
My 2018 CX5 Grand Touring has 90,000 miles with zero issues. Most versatile car I’ve owned. Even more so than my 2018 CX9. Btw my 2018 has the same seat memory and buttons as that 2021.
Just bought a lease return 2018 touring CX5 with only 12k miles. Got a great deal. Unfortunately a doofus let his shopping cart go in a parking lot and totally smashed the rear bumper. 😤. We got the white. Love the color.
As the owner of a 2018 Mazda 3 Touring, 2020 Mazda 3 Carbon edition and a 2021 CX-9 Carbon Edition these are the most amazing price to quality cars out there. The mpg, the amazing quality, the luxurious feel they give, they're quite amazing. However with my dealer I DO have problems and they are very stuck up and hate when I have warranty issues. Even on my 2020! They will fight tooth and nail with me for something that's obviously warranty and say it's not their problem, pretty ridiculous when I've bought 3 cars from them
2016 here. Bought in 2015, 6 years ago when my son was born. STILL running like a champ, no issues. Gotta agree with the seat issue, the seats arent the best, but man I still love this truck, my family has grown in it. Still tons of fun to drive, gas mileage is still great, we are just outgrowing it with two growing kids.
OMG you have surprised me a lot! Exactly the same car! Nice one I'm after CX-5 right now and you have just convinced me that my choice was definitely right. THANKS!
I just bought my 2018 CX-5 Touring for $17,200 at the end of my lease (residual value). It had 18940 miles on it, and I did all my oil changes (every 4K miles with Mobil1 Extended Full Synthetic), and kept it immaculate in my garage. Car prices have skyrocketed, and I thought where can I buy a great car in this great of shape for $17,200? I couldn't, so I bought it :) Love this car...zero problems, drives great, and I don't see a reason it won't easily hit 150K miles with proper maintenance. Congrats on your new 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring...it looks gorgeous!
Just bought a 2021 Grand Touring, same color, so glad to hear about the paint. I am still learning all the features. I have one question. When you raise or lower the power tailgate is there any safety mechanism that will stop it in case a kid tries to reach in when coming down. Or, when raising in a new spot, stopping it from hitting the parking deck top. The windows have one so if you have your arm out the window it stops. The liftgate is much heahier.
Good choice I own Mazda and they are amazing quality product and very reliable and I love the way it drives and very comfortable seating Congratulations 👍👍👍👍👍 let’s not forget it’s 💯%. Made in Japan 🇯🇵
Enjoy your new CX-5! I really like your review because a pre owned CX5 may be in my future. There so many on the road where I live that dealers usually have a good selection to choose from. Given wher I stand I probably will be considering a pre owned 2017-2020 in a few years. I am glad that are trouble free. I have a question about the paint color, if not the grey & red how does the black, white and silver paint hold up?
I own a crystal white pearl 2019 CX5 GT 2.2 Turbo Diesel and the paint is very nice, car is outside and under a tyvek car cover most days - 20,000 Miles / 32000 Kms - will be with me for another 2 years. Excellent performance and better fuel economy than the turbo petrol.
thanks for sharing your experience with cx 5. any comments on the infotainment screens? the new model has a bigger screen. there is a used 2018 cx 5 GT for sale near me. my only concern is the smaller screen. do you think the difference is huge since you have driven both models?
Was at a Subaru dealer recently to pick up my partner's Gen 2 Forester and I casually mentioned to the service advisor that I had a newer Mazda CX-5 and he had nothing but praise for it and thought it was mechanically better than the Forester. The CX-5 has a 6-speed transmission which I like better than the CVT on the Forester, and doesn't have the ridiculous engine shutoff the Forester has that kicks in every time the Forester comes to a complete stop. The Forester does have a softer ride, but the CX-5 feels tighter in terms of handling.
I'm curious what your thoughts are on the infotainment menus. Everyone seems to agree the screen is a lot better, but I've seen people say the menus are more difficult to use compared to the old system.
I would have thought that at 20k miles, the bumper to bumper warranty would still be in place and you could have had the seat trim replaced. Just picked up a CX-5 for my wife and she loves it. I will agree on the thin paint. Be sure to get some touch up paint and keep it handy.
I drive a 2018 CX5 today (first time driving a Mazda car) and overall it was pretty good. The interior is a little...dated, the seats were comfortable though. The transmission seemed a bit jerky when coming from a stop, but the speed is definitely there. A good car overall IMO
Wow, what was the trim level you drove? Because every major car reviewer, consumer reports, car guru, and others say how high end the interior is and if you didn't know it was a Mazda you were sitting in you may think it's a luxury European car. And the transmission shouldn't be jerky. I'm so sorry you had a not so great experience. I love mine and bought it based on the reviews I saw.
Hey there, curious about the switch from Touring to Grand Touring. Anything in particular get you to upgrade to the higher trim level after the 2018, or was it just to gove it a try? Anyway, great vid, thanks for the info!
Mazda is going up market! Would not surprise me if the new CX5 is $3K more than this generation. Just like they did with the Mazda 3. Cars are rapidly getting out of reach for a lot of people.
Best car ever. I talked my brother in law to buy a 2016 cx5 I have own 2 cx5 a 2017 and a 2018 . I have the 2018 cx5 grand touring in Mecca blue with the white leather interior omg it’s beautiful love my car
I just bought a 21 and I love it! Only thing I will say is I only get about 260 miles in range after filling up not sure if anyone else’s is the same. Other than that i love it!
I know what you mean but the fuel gauge isn’t so friend. If you look at the total gallon when you fill up to full, if it’s probably around 10-11 gallons. The car have a 14.8 or 15.3 gas tank capacity so if you think about it, the extra 3-4 gallons before empty can get you another 100 miles.
We had a 2014 CX-5 grand touring and traded it in 2016. We absolutely hated the seats, they were very uncomfortable for long rides and we did a lot of traveling back then so we got rid of it. Other than that it was a good vehicle
When I was a tech at a Mazda Dealership we noticed a few times that plastic cover getting broken like that. Every time it was caused by the operator/driver. Usually people who are short. They slide out of the seat which puts pressure on the panel. Or because the seat is too far forward and as they get out their feet kick the bottom of the panel. I am about 6 foot and never had that issue getting in and out of the vehicle.
yea right its all the users fault, how abt make them better so that they don't come off. What kind of retarded opinion is that. Mazda have engineers dont they, they shud be able to fix a simple effin problem,.
How you noticed a difference in how the seat feels between the 2018 and the 2021? I've been reading in the forums that the comfort of the leather seats have changed after 2019...that they are firmer now. I have a 2021 and I feel the seats are very firm.
They do feel firmer but we moved from fake leather to real leather. My parents also noticed the seats dont get as hot from the seat heaters in the real leather seats as they used to in the fake leather. A full review of the 2021 CX-5 will be available on my channel on May 25th!
@@ShootingCars The seats are a concern for us as well., but we're about to pull the trigger on a 2021 CX-5. Any updates you can provide? Have the seats softened up? BTW, I did a double take when I noticed the lic plate frames, looks like we go to the same dealer!
@@billystack I have a 2020 CX-5 Signature. It has Nappa leather seats and they were a bit firm at first but perhaps not as firm as the Mazda's standard leather. Gradually they will soften as the leather naturally breaks in from repeated use.
@@GizmoRob176 thanks. We ended up with the Grand Reserve and are really happy with it. Give me a beep beep if you see a light blue cx-5 with after market roof racks driving around town.
I just purchased one of these in July I haven’t had that issue yet and I have about the same amount of miles well it makes me feel relieved to know that doesn’t sound like there’s much wrong with it
We just got a 2019 CX-5 Grand touring in the different color mica blue which we love also and it had 41k Miles 1 owner lease trade in from my town. got a super dealer asking $ 26,998 with tax title reg in my state of Connecticut makes it $29,799 dollars out the door. With a 3-year 100k miles powertrain certified warranty. We love this car. Has the bose apple care play and no issues with the 2.5l non turbo and 6 speed trans all made in Japan. BLK leather interior is so nice and clean
I have a 2018 CX-5 GT , 30k mileage . Traded in a 2005 6 , both bought new. No problems, have had Honda's & Acura's also. Probably keep this car for many years.
Just bought a Grand Touring AWD CX-5 without the turbo last week. So far, we love it! Glad to watch and read all of the positive reviews. I think we made a good choice!
I borrowed my neighbours 18’cx5 gt and she filled the tank before hand. Once on the highway. I reset the trip and was getting 7L/100kms. But after the 400km trip, I filled it & it only got 9L/100kms. I’ll have to see if she filled it all the way. Also her trip 2 was 3,000kms and showed 13L/100kms. Mazda needs a hybrid option. I really thought the projected digital speedometer on the windshield was safe and cool. The lack of Apple CarPlay & Lane Keep Assist was a minor inconvenience. The leather seats looked cheap.
My 2017 just hit 40k miles has issues with the electronic parking brake. Seems to eat the rear brake pads super fast and the rear bumper under the taillight popped off some clips so doesn't line up perfect with the body. Should've got a RAV4...
Gotta say I was never a mazda fan untill i bought a 2016 mazda cx9 signature. I got it with 7k miles and 3 years later it's at 260k Miles on factory engine and transmission. Its help up really well only main problem within cosmetic is the wheels. Paint faded and is chipped
260k in just 3 years!!!!??? I've been looking for a used cx5 and I keep seeing these with very high mileage! Are you guys all meeting up at the same Mazda cx convention!? 🤣
@@taylarogers313 🤣. That's a helluva lot of miles in 3 yrs. Many yrs ago I had a long commute and would put 40k + /yr and thought that was awful. Can't imagine 260k in 3 yrs. Yikes. Did he ever get out of his car????
Wonderful review man! I was worried at first but I’m glad to see you still love the CX-5. I am looking at the CX-5 or the 2022 Civic Sedan Sport. I know they are in two different segments, but they are practical, reliable and fun. Does the CX-5 provide a “fun” enough drive, or should I go for the Civic?
My 21 cx5 gt non-turbo isnt exactly a racecar, but its not a slouch either. I dont have any issues pulling out into traffic and getting up to speed, i get 25 mpg city, nice ride, nice build quality, nice grocery getter but it aint gonna soak panties
Funny, I'm looking at the 2022 Civic Hatch myself as well, along with the CX-5. I'm a big Honda fan, especially after owning 3 civics and putting 400K miles on my '93 Accord. But Honda reliability ain't what it used to be. I would be careful.
I bought a new Mazda in 92 95 2011 and 2020 , my wife drives one and I drive the other. First 2 had over 200 thousand miles on them and all I ever did was put a half shaft in one because my wife hit a few deep potholes. I changed plugs in the 92 at about 120 grand in the summer , but it didn't need them. the 2011 has 75 thou on it and the 2020 has 5000 I love both of them , especially the 2020 cx5 . I am an old man and it already saved me from an accident , I started to change lanes ,safety beeped and light came on and I stopped , guy went past me , after hanging on my bumper for?
We just test drove a CX-5, grand touring reserve. Loved the car but after watching reviews I’m not sure about the infotainment screen. Is it user friendly?
To me they are, but they are no longer touch screen which some people do not like. The software is decent, the Mazda navigation is not good, but if you use apple carplay or android auto you’ll never notice Mazda’s system
I bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 the first with the sky active technology in 01/13 it was their top of the line Signature model. I recently traded it in for a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Addition. The new has a lot of more features and is quieter in the inside, but the biggest plus is the turbo engine. The real surprise is I paid about the same for both vehicles $31,000. How does Mazda 8 years later sell me a better equipped CX-5 for the same money? Mazda for the money is the best car line on the market. The CX-5 is my wife’s I am waiting to see if Mazda will come out with the 6 in rear wheel drive with the inline 6 cylinder engine. If they do I will be first inline.
He makes a great point at about 6:10 about getting another CX-5. I had two consecutive Mazda 3's of the same generation - a 2014 and 2018 - and I have NEVER done that before (I've been owning cars since 1986). My 3's were also a Touring-to-Grand Touring step up. I now have a 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve and not one competitor makes me want to leave it. Mazda has a magic to it that I hope they don't lose. I was a Honda driver for 18 straight years because they just had that something about them; then they lost the plot (and regained it recently, but then also dunked their head in the CVT/economy turbo bucket, so I'm not quite interested again).
The soul red is not a thin paint. The mx5s with that paint job were delivered to the race teams and they asked to not ship those because I’d the added weight of the paint
