If you want an automotive toy there are a lot of options out there that includes: motorcycles, ATVs, Dune Buggies, and Supercars. But if you want a daily driver you could opt for something like the Polaris Slingshot which is easily one of the most odd vehicles on the road today. The Slingshot is an autocycle which is part car part motorcycle. Prices start at $19,999 for the base model and rise up to $30,999 for the SLR LE model. The Grand Touring Luxury Edition seen here is priced at $29,999.
Under the hood is a GM sourced 2.4 liter Ecotec 4-cylinder that makes 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a 5-speed manual. Fuel economy is 28 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. There is not a whole lot to the interior. But being the top Grand Touring trim you get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Bluetooth and navigation.

We purchased our 2017 new and we now have almost 7000 miles on it and love it! We also have the Slingshade installed and love it, I might say when cruising with the wings down and LOCKED, the slingshade will make the audio a whole lot louder than without the slingshade top installed.We are from Iowa and we drive our Slingshot whenever the roads are clear of snow even in the winter. Some add on's - Slingshade, flashing fin light for stop light, key less start. " IF YOU DON'T OWN ONE YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND IT!"

How do they handle? I've seen reviewers give this thing hell because of its handling but I'm interested to know what an owner thinks of it. Is it something that I could track if I wanted to?

I drive 2017 SS every day the weather is good. You ask how does it handles, it handles just great! These people that says it crap either one they never drove one! I am 74 and this one is FAR FROM CRAP. In fact I just got back from Rochester, MN driving interstate speeds and just having a great time. I might say using my cruse control. That hugged the highway just like our Corvette. I don't race our SS, we drive it to enjoy the ride, and the pleasure of the handling on the road.

I don't own one but the second I saw it years back I understood it. It looks awesome in real life (I see them every several months) and an absolute blast to drive. I'd take one over a miata any day of the week. And for the money, I don't understand why anybody would take a spyder over one.

@@joem1950 Wonderful, I bought the 2020 R with only 1100 miles on it. It now has 5400 miles on it. It is a blast driving it. I had tried someone's automatic and hated it but the manual is a kick and I don't regret not buying another Harley at all.

That's not the high beams. It switches the interior foot well lights from white to blue at night.

Question!!🙋🏻‍♂️ Does the engine last as long as a regular car engine? When is it considered high milage? Cause cars can go over 200k miles, and motorcycles are considered high milage after 25k miles

Anybody remember the days when you could go out on the street and drive around? Now it's just sit in traffic. I feel very fortunate I started driving in 72, the roads were wide open you could do pretty much anything you want it. Now you can't do nothing if the roads were empty because cops are always watching. But what happens is the roads are always jammed you can walk on top of cars better than you could drive. And that was started driving in 1972 in New York Long Island

According to the polaris website, You don't need a motorcycle license in California. A regular driver license will do if it's a Autocycle.

I think only having a manual transmission limits the customer base since not a lot of people can drive it. I think an option of either a semi-automatic or automatic transmission would make it more appealing to more people.

How do you figure the Spyder is basically a motorcycle with a very narrow wheel base? The Spyder is 3 x as wide as a standard motorcycle. I don't get that logic.

Love that body and look, but would want front wheel drive, bright led headlights, option for a windshield, and a smoother ride. Looks like it needs a rear red break light strip and other improvements to make it a full time car that gets great mileage.

I am having an extremely hard time deciding on a brand new 2021 or 22 model R model for considerably more money or a used 2018 SLR for around 23K with 4K mileage. I don't care too much about which can go faster but a used one would not have the top shade feature. I did test drive for a short ride someone who had an automatic and I didn't like it. It just felt funky to me and I think I would like the manual much better. Having far too much trouble deciding which way to go.

Seems like the seat belt being on the inside if you were in a rollover your whole torso or at least your whole left side would hang outside the ride rather than it holding you it

Frankly those should be FWD across all models. I would think that would save money on production cost as well. Even an AWD model with an automatic clutch to engage the chain - for the rear wheel would be a cool addition for traction control. They should go to a turbo/super charged and smaller engine. Less weight and better MPG.

Your actually kinda wrong in California you do not need a helmet as of today to drive a slingshot as you can drive it with just a class C license. This includes the Cann Amm I don’t know if I’m spelling that correctly. The only exception to that is scooters.

No because the car has three wheels if you have the power at the front wheels and steering for the front wheels it would be very weird and the rear wheel what is it gonna do? Also it has more stability with rear wheel drive than front wheel drive and it would be more likely to flip or roll with front wheel drive

I’d prefer it to be FWD, but other than that it’s a great designed vehicle. Also there are DOT approved half shell Helmets that would be less inconvenient to wear than the full face helmet the reviewer was wearing.

Looks like a great ride but I would add a full-windshield capability along with some side roll-downs for rain management. Maybe an extendable windscreen? Seats look cool. If I had to wear a helmet in this thing I'd pass on it and just get a motorcycle then.

Make it a little bit bigger. Wider stance. More power ( small v-8 engine ) and a bigger fuel tank for range . Add Arnold Schwartzenager and Stalone ... You've got a whole new movie

There are 4 seat versions but I think that adding a small v8 is pointless since they can crank alot more power from a 4 cyl. If they really wanted to, they could always add a turbo.

Don't get it... $30,000. At this price point, you're passing up on light sports cars like the MX5, BRZ/FRS/GT86, and Fiat Spider. You're also passing up used heavyweight track monsters like the 6th gen Camaro and Mustang, and C6 Corvettes. Sorry, I don't see the value. Plus it lacks and creature comforts, rides loud as hell, and you have to wear a helmet (and even if you don't have to you should, since these things hold up about as well as a tin can in an accident or rollover).

Actually, it's really quiet you're thinking of a T-rex, it has race seats that supports your lumbar areas, also it has plenty of creature comforts such as HD surround audio system, a rear camera system, full functioning GPS, a cell phone mount and two detachable rear components that double as suitcases. Also depending on state law helmets are optional.

Here's REALITY ryding with ryan. Four wheels would make it a car. four wheels would mean government crash testing after the costly and weight adding air bags and five MPH bumpers. Windshield wipers and on and on. Four wheels would run the cost way up, slow the newly deemed CAR way down, and now do you get the picture?

I rented one in Florida for a couple days I can honestly and truly say it is not worth the money that Rear Tire hits everything in the center of the road and anyone who rides a motorcycle no a lot of the time we try to stay out of that Center either due to oils, or anything else and because you have three wheels taking up a substantial part of the road it's almost impossible to avoid anything that is on the road something that falls off the back of a truck or anything else. I was also surprised to learn it's nothing more than a tubular frame and a 6th generation Chevy Malibu engine. And a ton of flexible plastic that bounces all over the road whenever you drive and I'm referring to the hood that sucker bounces like crazy... It's basically a $30,000 look at me I need attention.. because for $30,000 you can get a brand new Mazda Miata fully loaded and we'll handle a hell of a lot better and actually will come with air conditioning as well as many other Creature Comforts. it wouldn't be bad if the price wasn't so ridiculous for what you get

Not in Utah for law don't require any helmet if you choose not to wear even on motorcycle. I'm surprised I haven't seen a Slingshot for you could drive this about 300 days a year depending on altitude location of course.

Right, only a couple states on the map for it required motorcycle endorsement. Love the concept and science fiction movie look, but this model probably isn't really good enough where it needs front wheel drive and better build. I thought it'd be motorcycle since US law usually classifies 3 wheeled cars as motorcycles and doesn't allow 3 wheel tuk tuks and auto rickshaws unless they're electric.

No one mentions this, but the cockpit in it is hot as F... I drove it on a cool day, and it was hot by your legs the entire time...

Don't care what you say, the thing's ugly, really ugly. By the way, I own a Polaris 850 sportsman, so I'm a Polars fan. It seems to kind of like the Can am spider or the Harley bikes with those extra wheels on back so you don't fall over at the light. If you can't ride a bike, get a Honda spider. Awesome car, goes like crazy, when it rains put the top up and turn on the heater, they also come with A/C. Just sayin.
