How to change engine oil in your 2019-2021 Toyota Rav4,it is easy and you can DIY. Also in this video I will show you what is on the inside of Toyota Denso oil filter and how it is put together.
1. You will need 14 mm wrench socket or wrench
2. 0W16 engine oil

lube the 4 cover screws. It will save the screws from rusting and stripping them from the plastic cover.

You made one potentially fatal mistake. You didn't chock the back wheels. If your parking brake slips and the car rolls off the ramps, it could potentially crush you. The chocks keep the wheel from rolling if the parking brake fails. Always chock the rear wheels. I changed my wife's oil this morning, made the same mistake and it scared the heck out of me.

I did not, i did it at 5000 miles and than at 10000 miles. Also i don’t push my car to 10000 miles oil changes, i do it around 7000

I tighten the drain bolt to the point you feel it hard stop and then to point you “start” to crush the washer. 15-20 ft lbs. is just fine. Pre fill the oil filter with oil. Tighten to point of contact with engine plus 3/4 turn.

That oil filter cap wrench is too wide on the outside. Get a short cap one.

Thank you for positive feedback. Yes you should do it yourself and its not difficult. I have been using mobil1 and it’s amazing oil, all my cars lasted close to 200k miles, but also do not go up to 10k mikes oil changes,do it close to 7 no more and use Toyota filters.

You can safely use 0w20 in these engines . It's only 4 points higher in viscosity when the engine is at operating temperature. There is No difference between the two oils in sub zero temperatures . 0w16 is purely for optimal fuel economy..

@@4RT0119 They have to say that because of CAFE. The engine will last longer if you use 0W20 vice 0W16. This probably doesn’t matter much since these engines last a million miles or more.

I'm researching info about the Rav4 for purchasing. Your video helped with the oil & filter required. My dad was a self-made car guy. I've completed more oil changes before I was old enough to legally drive; more most of adult friends (men & women) in their adult life time. Great job explaining everything here. I’m waiting for my new rav 4 hybrid on order. Please don’t use anything metal to get the plug gasket off. You will scratch the sealing area little by little and eventually it might leak. Use plastic. Also consider getting a magnetic drain plug to catch the tiniest metal shavings that wear over time on every engine. Also get a variety of much bigger funnels for adding the oil. Makes it so much easier. Thanks again for sharing.

When installing oil filter ,screw it on till it touches the base then tighten 3/4 of a turn more.

Do you count the amount that you put in filter as part of the 4.8 quarts needed ? or no matter what amount you put in the filter you still add 4.8 quarts to the engine ?

When you take your car to the dealer for oil changes they don’t use the original Toyota oil in quarts. Mobil is good oil

I only have 27000 miles=43452 km on my Rav4. I don't need to change ATF fluid yet only at 40k miles. You will need scan tool to do this job but it is fairly easy and ONLY USE TOYOTA ATF.

i think the engine only was built in japan? if the rav4 was assembled in japan your VIN number will begin with a J

You can do it yourself easily. Just don’t overfill oil 4.8 qt but fist put 4.5 and check if you need to add more. Also change oil early max 7k miles.

Mobil1 is all marketing hype, people use it because they see other people use it, has nothing to do with quality. I'll show you race engines that have lived their lives on it that I've torn down and they are a disaster inside...use castrol edge euro and don't look back. Second would be Pennzoil ultra platinum....just an engine builders opinion

Yes you are correct, but you don't need this filter wrench tool if you buy Fram TG4967 or XG4967 premium filter. I switched to Fram and it is much easier to put them on you don't need wrench, also remember hand tighten filter to not use excessive strength.

Same procedure for your hybrid,just check what part number for oil filter i think its 90915 10009. Buy oil filter at the dealer and oil you can buy at Walmart 0w16
