2019 Acer Predator Thermal Repast | Solve acer heat issues
This is the second part to my original fan fix video. You viewers suggested this fix a number of times and I liked the idea so this is the video documenting the process. I left most of the struggle in on this one as there were some things that slowed me down so you know what to look out for.

The heat shield on my gpu for my 2020 predator 300 was a little different. I noticed it had thermal paste underneath it so I removed it and kept it off since it seemed to that it would keep heat from exiting the area than prevent it .

6:22 Question. How do you remove the whole heatpipes without removing the display ribbon? (For the LCD display) Great tutorial. Thanks sir.

Hi James I've been coming to your videos as I have the same exact laptop model. I wanted to open up the heat sink and apply honeywell to my gpu/cpu and change the pads, but I had some concerns about the VRAM. Do you happen to have any updates after you had done maintenance after this video (how long it lasted, effectiveness, average temps) and if you would have done anything differently? Do you happen to know the thickness required for the stock pads you did not remove?

Thanks for checking them out. I quickly found I am missing equipment to get good data on those points. But much like my channel the practical application was a total success. The temps I did see were within 5% of OEM specs and this computer was in heavy use until late 2023. It was only replaced to go with a tower. That laptop is still running and the fans are about ready for another swap. I should do a basic update video about it. I will try to get something out soon!

@@JamesHeigh If my temps are within 80-85c do you think it would not be worth the effort of repasting at the moment? I'm still very new to maintaining my own device and I don't want to risk messing my computer up if it won't have a noticeable difference. Thank you for the response!

@@agosta44 at best you might pull off 73-80 or 6-12% and the risk is bending a pipe or it becomes larger repair. Maybe leave it for a bit longer for now. If cash isn’t super tight and you are ok with learning then that’s a better reason to risk it.

@@JamesHeigh Thank you for the response! Maybe I'll hold off for now. I didn't take pipes bending into consideration, but I'm pretty gentle with hardware.

Thanks for this vid, James. How are the CPU temps holding up? I have the exact same laptop. I've cleaned the heatsinks as well as the fans and repasted with Arctic MX-4 and replaced the thermal pads where you've repasted with thermal paste. With all that CPU still ramps up to 92 degrees Celsius with gaming. I've still got the original fans, but it feels like the GPU fan (aeroblade tech) extracts more heat when I set both on full, the CPU fan output feels so faint when on max. I've come to accept that those high temperatures comes with the territory with laptops, but confirmation on this hypothesis would be appreciated. Thanks, again.

Ah Ha! You have been researching. Yes this gen CPU is actually the culprit. My temps are in another video of mine and they are within about 5% of original temps. Because the CPU is the major source of heat I believe that the majority of throttling would happen due to CPU heat, so if you were only interested in gaming and not say streaming your gameplay I tested disabling hyperthreading and got really great results. You can disable hyperthreading in the bios then the system will only access the physical cores and in theory your games could see benefit from using the physical cores over the HT cores. Other than that it seems like yes we have to just accept the heat situation with these laptops.

@@JamesHeigh Thanks for the reply. Alright, I see. I'll have to read up a bit more on hyperthreading to fully understand it and what else it would affect when disabled. I appreciate the feedback and the videos on this laptop. All the best to you and I hope you bring out more good content

Very useful video. What pads did you buy that came conveniently in tiny squares? Also, what’s the name of the tape to reattach some of those cables called?

I don’t think I have an affiliate link anymore but I got them from amazon (www.amazon.com/dp/B07N376ZPN?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_WDRAFE2F27EK681VXMFF ) and I think they are holding up fine. For the tape I used the included original plastic strip and just used scotch tape to re-secure it in place on the cooling system. Thank you for your comment!
