I’ve owned my BMW M4 Competition for about 9 months now so thought I’d do a review on what I think it’s like as a daily driver. This is my opinion only and may differ from others.
They sure are great. I have a 2020 M4. I also had a 2018 M4 (non-comp). The 2020 comp is certainly an improvement with additions like CarPlay, and a few other niches. However, I feel bad for anyone who got an M4 that didn’t opt to also have the LCI Ikon headlights. Regardless, 10/10 cars.
Hi there WOW! You are very lucky to own 2 👍 I’ve been thinking about getting apple CarPlay retrofitted as my wife has it in her mini and it’s so much better. Is the M4 a popular car where you are?
I have a real soft spot for these. I've got an F90 M5 Comp and find it a perfectly good car to use as a daily when it's all dumbed down (Which I have set as M1). But once I press M2, it comes alive and it's absolutely savage. So yeah, I think M cars are a bit split personality, but they are great!
Hi Rich, I have an M4; a few tips. M1/M2 modes. They are there to swap on the fly and configure as you wish. You can change all settings and therefore may choose to swap how the gearbox reacts. I have a non OPF car and it sounds quite good. I’d look into getting the GTS maps on the diff and gearbox, makes a big difference. Perhaps full screen CarPlay too; this will bring the cabin more up to date Cheers
Hi there Thanks for watching! Hey, some really good ideas there so big thanks for that! I do flit between the modes and have been playing around with the settings- more on m1 than m2. M2 is just CRAZY the way it’s set up ATM 😂 CarPlay is definitely on the to do list. Cheers again matey 👍
Hi there Thanks for watching and for taking the time to share your comments. I’ll definitely do another review in the near future and include some better images of the car and not just me 😃. Just waiting for a day where it doesn’t rain, hopefully soon 👍
Good video, makes a change to see an honest review on the M4 rather than the 800bhp usual. I’m happy with my M240i, but would love a cayman gts as my weekend toy one day
Hi and thanks for watching and indeed taking the time to comment- very much appreciated! Yes, that is what I was looking for; they can't be driven at full throttle so was wanting to share what they are like to use daily. In all honesty the Cayman is probably an easier car to drive on the UK roads but the M4 doesn't have catch attention 🙂
Great, honest review. I've got the same car which I've had a little over a year. They're really special cars and a bit of a performance bargain. Mine is a daily driver and I decided to buy winter alloy wheels and tyres for peace of mind as, like you say the throttle needs to be treated with respect when it's slippery. By the way do find the traction control is a bit slow to kick in, allowing a bit of slip before kicking in?
Hi there Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts. I was thinking about doing the same and getting some winter alloys- did you go for winter tyres as well. The traction control does kick in after a little bit of slip yes. In a weird way I kind of like that 😅 There’s not many cars out there that give you this level of performance for the money- in my opinion. Thanks again matey 👍👍
Yes I got winter alloys and tyres. They were sold new by a bmw dealer in Scotland for a great price on ebay. Tyres were unused but date stamp was about 4/5 years old so I think they were selling them off to clear out. They'd sold out of 19" ones but had 18" wheels and tyres. Don't look that smart but do the job and super comfy. Looking forward to switching back to the summer set soon now that temps are picking up.
Mate..i have a M4 and they are stunning cars..alwsyd a joy to drive and ppl love seeing them..the stares are always there. The sound of the car is a bit if a letdown but there are many options to appease this need.
Hi there and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment- much appreciated! You are not wrong matey, awesome cars and just love every time I drive it. I honestly think that people like seeing them and unlike some other cars, I think they just love to see them about. 👍
Hi Rich. I'm thinking of getting an M4 comp soon ( Hopefully). Going back to that Diff problem that you had, have you looked into what was faulty with it? I'm just curious to find out if maybe this is a one off fault or a common fault that's all. Thanks for Vid 👍
Hi, thanks for watching and for reaching out- very much appreciated! I honestly think that I've been unlucky with the diff. I've not heard of this before and when I bought it only had 15k on the clock. I also don't think it had been driven hard as it still had the original tyres front & back (well I assume with the dates on the tyres). One thing I have heard about is the Crank hub which is something to look into particularly if you are going to look to boost the power. I am more than happy with the power available (at the moment at least) so I'm not looking at that. Hope you get sorted matey! 👍
hi Rich again, Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the type of gearbox in these cars haven't got a torque converter? Think that's why it rolls freely. Also Rich if you don't mind me asking, how much did pay for your extended warranty & how long does it last? cheers pal 👍
Hi, what Cayman did you have and in terms of performance as a daily which did you prefer? Actually that’s a no brainier ; M4 I’ve got the Mini Cooper S F56 which is a lot of fun. Prior to getting the Mini, Cayman/Boxster 981 and M4 were on my radar. Fortunately I found an F56 that ticked all the boxes.
Hi there, thanks for watching and for commenting- it is gratifying to see people actually watch 🙂 The Cayman was probably easier to drive as a daily even though both are RWD the M4 is very twitchy on anything but dry roads. I miss my Cayman but I'm no Jay Leno LOL. An F56 is definitely on the list for a future option as I am wanting a car to do runs to the Nurburgring in Germany. Hope your F56 is FUUUUUN!!👍👍
Hi there, the company is called OPTEVEN. I always say, it's when you have to make a claim when you find out how good a company is and these have been brilliant. Hope that helps matey 👍
Hi there. The company is called OPTEVEN and yes, they are good- no hassle, just sorted very efficiently and quickly. It's only when you have to make a claim do you find out how good an insurance company are. Definitely recommend them 👍
