Your really the only person on any platform to put a spotlight on the 5th gen cummins engine. Very in depth. Thank you. 🙏 I just picked up a 5th gen core that i plan to overhaul and drop in my 94 f350.
You did it without removing cab. The only reason to remove cab is because factory holder tools don't have enough room to be installed on back of engine. Interesting method!!!
Just gonna point out that the chrysler shop manual tells you not to use magnets. Our kit came with the dumb miller tool that barely works on a good day to catch the lifter. I need to get a set like what you got...
You do not want to use magnets with the hydraulic lifters as it WILL magnetize the internals (I tested that and it’s true!). I used magnets as I converted these lifters into solid rollers using Wagler's kit.
I bought a 22 fully aware of this potential issue. Having done cams and lifters in these motors before my only question was can you do it in frame vs pulling. Very glad to know we can!
If you are keeping hydraulics, DO NOT use magnets. You NEED the holder tool otherwise you will magnetize and damage the hydraulic sections of the lifters. As for replacement of one lifter, install holding tools on all lifters, remove cam, install trough, and release holding tool on that lifter. Then reinstall using mopar flip tool.
