This is my 7th pickup I’ve owned, 3rd Ford. In the past 45+ years this is the one I like the best. As a retired baby-boomer it fits my needs 100%. We live out in the country and my Lariat is equipped like the one in the vid. I use the 4x4 more often on our 7AC ranch and the back country roads. In 3 months and 6,000 miles, I’ve done a number of 500-600 mile trips as well as normal running around in the country and city. This truck meets my needs and is very comfortable for both me and my Wife. The options are a big part in making us comfortable and an enjoyable driving experience. It’s size is perfect for our needs. The pundits that ridicule the price, are not comparing apples to apples when you talk the F-150 in similar trim. Yep F-150’s has more room, which would be nice, sometimes. I’ve had full sized pickups and they can be challenging in the city and off-road. I’ll stick with my Ranger, you buy what you want.
This is also a worldwide vehicle platform with tons of Diesel versions sold in Australia, Thailand and the Philippines also available in the UK and probably a ton more countries I don’t know about. The ones we get in the USA are also the most American vehicle on the planet. This guy doesn’t understand the utility of this vehicle to people outside of the US.
Just bought a super cab XLT with the fx4 and chrome package the color is ingot silver and I'm getting 23.9 for fuel mileage couldn't be happier with it thanks Ford for bringing it back I've always had f150 but I don't use a truck as a truck so I'm glad i got one great video keep up the good work
I just got my 019 Ranger XLT FX4 and it came with dealer installed Ford Pro Fox 2.0 coil over level kit, aftermarket 18 in wheels w/Nitto AT 33’s and MagnaFlow exhaust. I purchased it and got end of year and got various rebates/discounts... got it mid 30’s and the only option I don’t have are leather seats and the Lariat led headlights. I’ve driven the Colorado’s, Canyon’s and Tacoma’s and the Ranger and the Ranger won
Nice review! I bought a '19 Ranger XLT FX4 crew cab after 10yrs driving cars & SUVs. Love the truck. Home run Ford! This thing Is 100% Ford truck an feels built to last long time.
David Klimmek I’m thinking of upgrading from a Camry. Either the ranger lariat or Tacoma Trd off road/sport. If I don’t like driving trucks, then I’d get a sonata 2020
I have my doubts about the reliability of this Truck... I watched a couple of videos of people who had Horrible experiences with this... but then again, there's videos of people who haven't had any issues... someone help me hahah
I have a 2021 I agree with most things you said but as far as the quality of the materials some of it looks and feel a little bit cheap. The doors when you close them sound like they’re made of aluminum and make a tinny ring. Most of the interior is plastic that unfortunately scratches pretty easily. Coming from a half ton pick up I got to say I enjoy the size of this but one downside is be prepared it feels like you’re driving a bouncy house on wheels. Make sure you borrow one from a friend or do more than just a test drive so you can feel how it truly handles you feel every bump and pothole you go over. But it’s a very zippy engine and the ground clearance is amazing. Also the interior storage is almost nonexistent the center console storage is a joke, which is a little bit disappointing. I’m super happy with mine though I hope the turbo engine hold out down the road.
I just got one. XLT with all the options (off road, towing, etc). Got a good deal as it was a courtesy loaner with a few miles. My advice with the running boards is step near the front with your left foot then sort of slide in. I often get out directly to the ground. My biggest complaint is the auto start/stop will shut the engine off IMMEDIATELY even if stopping for a split second at a stop sign. And there's no way to adjust. But it is disabled in sport mode like you said and there's also a simple button as well. I've been getting in the habit of shutting the feature off when I'm in an area of stop signs. But I wish it could be changed to like four seconds or something. As a previous Tacoma owner (a stripped 2wd but with six cyl) so far the Ranger is better in every way. Will have to see how it ages though vs the reputable Tacoma...
Amazing, I configured a super cab lariat fx4 for 40k. I agree, I deleted the running boards, this truck has a 6 foot bed so I can put a water proof cap so I can camp in it. Enjoy yours
Nice. Yea mine was $42500 before discount. Love the truck. Its best midsize on market by far! Ppl test drive it an it's near unanimous for Ranger. My son just ordered a '20 model. The '19s are gone at all Ford stores in NW Ohio.
You can tell your friends at Ford I pull a landscape trailer 2800 pounds total. The city I live in was putting water service in a development. What use to be a road was nothing but mud and soft clay especially after 2 days of rain. Waiting 15 minutes for the contractor to back fill a hole that they just place a storm drain in it was time for me to go. I put my truck in the TM Mode selector set for mud. The truck performed great. On the way out the contractor said “that bobcat skid steer behind you was for assistance but that truck was impressively capably of pulling that trailer through the mud.”
I test drove one the other day, I really like it, has a lot of get up and go punch. I previously owned a Toyota, kept it for 15 years and put 250,000 miles on it. My brother has a similar story with his Toyota. I had an F-150 supercrew a few years back, but sold it after putting about 66k on it. My kids are grown now, so won't be hauling around teenagers anymore so don't need the F-150. I'm 5'8" so I find the Ranger to be just the right size now. Not sure what the long term reliability will be, but I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time so not concerned too much about short term depreciation. Those that comment about it needing a V-6 should test one, it feels as strong as the 4.8litre from a few years back. The cloth seats are comfortable and the sound system is good. But for nearly $40k it irks me there is no CD player. I live in the desert area so on road trips there is often no streaming audio. Still slightly hesitant but probably go for the XLT FX4 ...
Put an SD card in your phone and store your tracks there, if you go on a desert dirt road with a CD player is just going to skip anyways. I just moved away from AZ so I can tell you that one from experience LOL
The things I think it needs are sunroof, memory seat and ventilated seats. Many have complained about lack of flexibility with the rear seats, such as splitting the rear cushion to allow both cargo and a passenger. I pretty much wrote the Ranger off until I recently noticed the black appearance package and the sport bar and between the rails tonneau cover.
You have Literally had the car history i hope to have. I had planned the Miata, Porsche Cayman in Blue and a Ranger, and the found your channel on youtube while looking for videos about the Cayman. It's Crazy.
Bought almost the same truck. But in magnetic. And yes your shorts gave it away that your not a truck guy😂. But pretty accurate on the most part. Very happy with my new truck. Also do mostly city driving with sand and dirt fun about every 4-6 weeks. Fx4 is a little floaty on the street but great in the dirt and sand. Definitely better at fun running than rock crawling. Look up the Diamondback bed cover. A little more $ but worth it. Also you can still rock the running boards and not use them. They are Good for preventing door dings
I have had a lot of pick up trucks over the years for work and pleasure. I was a full time RV'er for 7 years and used the F-150. I purchased a Ranger just like the one in the Video except for color. I really like this Truck and a larger truck cannot duplicate the feel, which I call solid and stable. I was hoping to get the Raptor version and I still might when it arrives. There are some things that I will complain about, most have to do with Ford the company. Missing at this price are as follows. No memory seat function, no heated steering wheel, no power sliding rear window, this is really an outrage because the operator can not reach the window while driving and open it for ventilation, missing is the easy down tailgate function and the step for bed access, missing is the split folding rear seat,. My truck has excessive wind noise at highway speeds, I need to get it looked at. I also think that this is one of the best looking trucks on the road today. thank for the video.
Enjoyed the video.. Gave u a thumbs up.. I'm a truck person and have been looking for a good buy on a ranger for a few years now.. Just ran across the new 2019 Rangers a few weeks ago and been searching to see what people have been saying about the new versions.. Seems like the responses are all positive.. I know the prior Rangers that I have owned were well built and I never had any problems with mine.. The last one I owned was a 2000 with only 57000 miles when I traded it for a Chevy Volt for the little woman.. I really miss that truck since doing that silly move.. LOL... Anyway, if all goes well, I may jump into the 2019 or 2020 around March 2020.. Being 72 everything is jacked up on charges now such as insurance, then the yearly taxes, etc..
I test vehicles for a living you do not. The real fuel economy of this Ranger with double cab and 4x4 is 16/22-23, no better than a full sized f150 with 2.7 ecoBoost engine, and the f150 with $3-$8K rebates is cheaper the buy. This videos is nothing but a BS ad for FORD. See me youtube Ranger video for a REAL test, not this crap.
Not better MPGs. I own both but at end of day they are close. Thing Is all the midsize trucks close to fullsize in MPGs. Ppl AREN'T buyin a midsize over fullsize for MPGs but cause it suits them better! Period. We average 20mpgs In our new Ranger but drive it hard. It's a fun truck! Our newer F150 Platinum FX4 we average 16-17mpgs. Also driven fairly hard. Both trucks best of best. Ranger gets a few MPGs more. Ranger loaded out pretty good u get @ $38-39k after rebate & Xplan discount! That's $10k+ cheaper than our F150 Platinum so dunno where u get pricing or what ur agenda is. Order a new Ranger spec'd to ur tastes an save even more. Dealers most always carry high trimmed vehicles. Keep truckin!
@@mcoop571 it doesnt. We own both newer F150 an brand new Ranger. Average barely 17 ish MPGs in F150 FX4 Platinum & we get 20.3 ish all day long average in sporty Ranger!
I like your honest opinion giving your personal experience. You don't sound like you're trying to sell the truck. I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota and have plans to purchase a new truck in a next year or two. The new Ranger is one of the options I am considering. Before my Dakota I drove a 1993 Ranger for 12 years.
Antonio JimeneZ I’ve got a 2003 2.3L and it’s soooo slow. It’s fine around a relaxed town but in a busy fast paced city like San Francisco it cant keep up unfortunately. Which brings me to looking at these new models. Wish the 4x4 were cheaper tho.. the 4x2 is more in my price range but.. I’m worried I’ll regret it as I do like to do a lot of camping, fishing, etc which require going off road
I mean the two trucks look similar if not exact in size, I keep asking myself WHY why wouldn't Ford just revert back to the 'smaller' pickup not necessarily a 'compact' but something in between....a hybrid of the two if you will???
The lack of driver side grab handles boggles my mind. I use it every time entering and exiting my Tundra. During this video every time he gets in and out, it’s awkward. Jeep Gladiator at least has one and is my main contender right now; just expensive as hell.
Depends on options for Gladiators price. A completely loaded Sport S is the same price as the Ranger in this review. Or a base Rubicon. Sport S also has the highest tow rating (optioned with max tow package) of all the Gladiator models. Gladiator is at the top of my list as well.
I was very excited about the Ranger until I sat in one (today at the ny auto show). I just felt like I didn’t have enough space. Maybe I need to test drive one. I probably sat in every midsize and full size truck; I liked the F150 more than any of them. I saw the Rivian Truck and I was impressed with it. I see why Ford just invested 500 mil.
Things I don't like about the new Ranger as an F150 owner who has looked at going with a smaller Truck. 1- Price! For the price of a FX4 Ranger you can get a nice XLT FX4 F150. 2- The design of the backseats and the way it only folds halfway is deal killer having dogs or wanting to use it for storage. 3- Interior, They could have done a better job with the interior. It looks dated and bland. The instrument cluster needs work. Pros- The Ecoboost and 10 speed are a big draw for me. I'm waiting to see some of the aftermarket stuff and maybe in a couple of years an update to the interior.
Tis a sexy lookin' truck right here, I plan on getting myself a Lightning Bolt Blue XL model once my 2011 Ranger is paid off but....are they actually smaller then the F150 after you examine the sizing numbers (ground clearence, wheelbase, etc) I'm just as curious as the rest of ya's!
Probably should have not mentioned a free $45k truck, and you work for Ford. Just my opinion. I test drove this truck before I bought my Tacoma. My opinion is it drove nice, but Ford needs to offer a V6 option. Good truck hunting for those of you that are looking.
Ranger is missing the iconic F150 tailgate step-up, it's pretty high to get up in the bed and having a wider side step like a RAPTOR would be better then that narrow one..
Yeah a fully loaded lariat ranger is the same prices of base model F150.. If you spec a F150 like a fully loaded ranger you'd be looking at upwards of $65000 or more.
thanks for putting the truck in the same frame as the old ranger, good to see how much bigger it is. looks like a 90s full size truck. what is your average mpg in the city?
Great video, I cant wait for my Ford Ranger to come arrive in a few months. Was curious if there was anything I can do for Ford on the consumer side? Give data, opinions, or anything else. Keep up the hard work!
That's awesome! You're going to love it. Your question is music to my ears. Ford loves it when customers download the FordPass app, activate the FordPass modem in your car and sign up for FordPass rewards (it's Ford's new loyalty program so you can get a bunch of free stuff). The company has invested a lot in the "connected vehicle" functions, so it's great when customers take advantage of them. Your dealer will appreciate it if you fill out the official dealership experience survey, since that is how they are evaluated as a dealership internally.
Is the 2.3 the largest engine available in America? I live in New Zealand and have one setup as a service vehicle for my job in the heavy diesel trade. It has 3.2 liter engine with performance chip and 6 speed manual transmision also 4x4, awesome pickup!
As of now the only engine option in the US is the 2.3L gas ecoboost, I'd be surprised if they didn't introduce the diesel when they bring in the new generation of ranger.
My issue with the Ranger right now is everyone calling it "new" ... It's not "new", it's been overseas for a while. You can tell this is the case based on the interior, which looks very much like the Edge my in-laws had about 7 years ago. Until the interior gets an update, including the infotainment system, I'd keep looking at other midsize trucks. I'm not sure Ford has quite nailed it yet when you compare it to the Tacoma or Colorado, who also offer superior offroad packages (TRD Pro & ZR2, respectively).
Michael Thompson Purely subjective, just not a fan of the dated looking graphics and layout. Both my brother-in-law and in-laws have always had Fords and I find them very buggy... especially when syncing via Bluetooth.
Well its 2019 now an ppl want tech features. This is an amazing truck u wont be sorry for leasing /buying. I shopped Colorado/Tacoma/Ranger. Couldn't believe how much better this truck drove. Will last 20yrs w/very good basic maintenance like all Ford trucks .
@@jamesm568 well yea its very sporty an fastest of all the midsize trucks. Rolling into corners tho? Dont get that. Its rated real well for ride / handling. U gotta get what ya like. What u get?
Lol this thing feels like a car to me I own a 2020 Ranger my self, but I have owned real trucks myself too. My past trucks 2000 f250, the best truck so far 1985 Toyota pickup 4x4, currently have a 1998 dodge 2500 with the Cummins and 5 speed manual 4x4. I test drove all of the mid size pick-ups the tacoma looks the best to me but it was slow, the ranger was faster and had the best drivetrain in my opinion. I did alot of research on the current trucks available also I am a Ferrari technician.
I just bought one two days ago the more I drive it the more I love it I was totally surprised I only needed a truck to pull my boat and I got a nice comfortable ride at a good price
This is such a biased video. He works for ford, the vehicle is a company truck, and they even gave him a 4x4 that he doesn’t use. Get an average joe or better yet, a mechanic to review the vehicle. Don’t give us biased information.
Nice ride man hope they do an end of the year deal on these because the only gripe I have with the rager is just that the price to me is a bit high but that is the run of the lot with all trucks these days unfortunately for the people like me that use trucks as truck for work and all have been stuck by the price hikes of the hey trucks got cool price hike thing that seems to have hit the truck market that's just my opinion on the price thing but damn ford you made one nice ranger so price to the side I don't see why I would spend more to get less from the other guys over going with ford and getting something you know will do the job get you home and get you out to your favorite spin the tires in mud spot on the weekend and or if the job you are going to is off an old dirt road who's to say you can't have a bit of fun getting to the job site I'll leave it at that think y'all got me looking at this over all the rest in the market props to you guys ford is finally starting to go in the right direction
For that kind of money, may as well get a F-150 with the Coyote 5.0. Not really loosing that much on real world gas mileage, and get a MUCH better sounding exhaust and MUCH more potential on power. The opinion on a vehicle that you didnt have to pay for isnt very valid. No skin in the game.
Dude u dont need a LOADED DECKED OUT RIG. COLORADO or TACOMA charge same thing & arent built as well. I got mine for $38k plus tax an love it. Ur foolish plainly If you don't put on shopping list. This is an awesome truck. Ppl need realize its 2019 not 2005 u won't get a Ranger for $20k or any other decent truck. Keep Truckin!!
Similar. I haven't measured it, but it might be a bit more narrow? It might just seem that way though because the back of the seats in the Ranger are right up against the back wall.
Mechonomist I’m in an Edge now but ready to get back in a truck. I’d love another crew cab F150, but have enjoyed having something a little smaller and also like the smaller MSRP of the Ranger.
90% of the same features except no auto defrost side mirrors ONLY IN LARIAT, way to go Ford, ppl in northern climes who cant/won't spend the extra $10k can f right off
This will be a failure in Ford's eyes in the next year or two. Went about a month ago to check one out while my 2011 F150 went in for service. It's almost offensive that Ford put out a truck that's almost a decade old and branded it as all new with a sticker price to match. If I was in the market honestly this would be one of the last on the list. And I've driven nothing buy Ford.
Highly correct! Its built by the same Co builds the BEST full size trucks.. no arguments there. Plus, the Ranger was #1 - 10yrs ago ..till Ford walked away from smaller trucks. The Tacoma is low tech, uncomfortable & low on power. Fact. Try the Ranger u wont be sorry... it's All American to boot.
This guy is nothing more than a salesperson. What a joke. He works for Ford and he's going to give us an honest opinion? "I don't like this truck." If he said something like that, he would probably be fired. Makes this guy untrustworthy and disrespectful of the customer. He's leading the customer to purchase. Just look at the comments below. Go help with the dinner dishes or something.
