Kurtis Lane I am willing to wager that if you asked Dodge who they made the Hellcat for, they'd say the Mustang/Camaro. See the Challenger and Mustang are still in the same class, 2drs 4 seats. A throughbred sports car has 2 doors 2 seats (Viper, Ford GT, Corvette). So, these two cars are well within the specs to compete with one another.

mohammadkwt would you consider the Shelby GT350 and upcoming GT500 a Ford? I wouldn’t, they are designed and tuned by Shelby based off a Ford Mustang. Now I love Shelby Mustang I mean how can you not but the Challenger, while I agree a cash grab, is designed and built by Dodge. I’m really excited to see the new Bullitt Mustang later this year!

no, they probably made it for money alone. FCA isn't really interested in beating competitors in terms of performance and quality, see Fiat, Ferrari, Maserati and even Alfa Romeo with a Giulia breaking down in the middle of a test.

It takes a lot of time and R&D to bring an upgrade in power. It's not that the engine cant make the power, it does... if you've seen what a 5.2 can do with a aftermarket charger, they make around 900hp. It's about durabilty and emmisions. The 5.2 won't have additional power added to it because the zl1 hasn't. The Chevy is what Ford cares about...not the demon, inspite of what Jim Owens spouted out. The GT500 is going to be a track car with a 7 speed DCT transmission only and 750HP

it won't have close to 800hp. 755 is max. it is a track built car, DCT only, built to compete with the zl1 and zl1 l1e. there will be a gt500 and a gt500R. Jim Owens was talking smack... it's not going to be a drag car. It will still be quick but it's not going to be built for straight line acceleration. I would guess tho, that the non track version with less aero will be over 205mph.

That’s my thinking. I just commented on how it’s been rumored by Ford assembly line workers that the GT500 will come equipped with the Tremec 7-speed DCT from the Ford GT so as far as shifts go, it’ll be far more smooth and crisp than the 8-speed automatic from the Hellcat Redeye with the benefits of less drivetrain loss. Not only that but the GT500 will have far more superior aerodynamics and power-to-weight ratio and Ford really showed how important aerodynamics and power-to-weight ratio is in ‘66 against Ferrari. Just my two cents of the given discussion.

Exactly, that expands upon my point, the stang has many more things going for it other than raw hp. Shit that transmission would be nice. I'd still want the challenger though if I drove it often just because it so much more comfortable for my 6'6" ass, and the look is so iconic which is why they've changed it so little since 2008.

Doubtful, the 10 speed shush box shifts faster, it's lighter, has more gears and much cheaper, the sun is setting on DCT's fast.

Lol my first car was an sxt challenger and I just sold my srt8 for a scat pack. I like these cars for their comfort and style first and performance second (Not saying they don't perform great) but they're more of a luxury muscle car than others.
