The Pilot is a good all rounder. It’s not the best off road, nor gas mileage but they’re great, reliable vehicles. I did like the last generation more with it being boxy, but it’s not terrible. I’m excited to see what happens to the Acura MDX since the Pilot Elite is kind of a better deal right now. I am curious though.. the AWD sounds similar to SH-AWD. Is it the same and his renamed for Honda?

I owned a 2018 Pilot and had a after market hitch installed, it was so ugly I couldn't live with it so I traded in my Pilot. I bought a 2019 Acura MDX( advance trim level). It was very nice but... For 60k I expected more out of the MDX. There is so many shared parts from the Pilot in the MDX. The MDX was much smaller so the the 3rd row was more just for looks than anybody to include small children being able to have a comfortable ride in the 3rd row. I decided to trade in the MDX and went back to the Pilot. I got a 2019 Pilot (Elite) and I am much happier with the Pilot than the MDX. I can say that the MDX has a sportier and more luxury look to it than the Pilot. If your looking for a smooth ride and capable vehicle for 50k the Pilot Elite is it. Im sure there are other vehicles in that price range that look more sporty and offer more but, Honda owners purchase Honda's for quality and longevity. The Pilot offers a sort of panoramic sunroof ( the MDX doesn't) and comfortable seating for 7 or 8 people. I have the 7 seater with the center counsel in the rear. All and all said if your looking for a full SUV (CUV) the Pilot is worth a look. With all the opinions out there I hope this can help at least one person looking for a vehicle

It has led headlights like the MDX too. And reverse lights where they're supposed to be. No longer in the bottom of the bumper. Very nice.

The VTM-4 system in my 2007 Honda Pilot is awesome off-road! I bet this Pilot would be awesome off-road too with a 2” lift, all terrain tires, and sway bar disconnects.

Anyone considering the 9spd transmission should really drive both 9spd vs 6spd variant. The ZF 9spd transmission is not known for its reliability. It's available in other manufacturers vehicles. No one has ever said the ZF 9spd is best in class.

For 2019 Honda should have put new headlights and brake lights on ex-l model too. These led lights are for two top lines elite and touring.

TFL, can't wait until you review the new Passport. Will you have test drives of the Passport in Jan\Feb 2019? What do you think about the 6-speed vs the 9-speed?

Still not sure if I like the new look. There were certain angles where the pilot resembled the Odyssey. Great vehicle of course , just starting to look less like an SUV.

It’s funny when I see or hear people say that these pilots can’t off road! They may not be as good as some full on 4 wd vehicles that may be more capable but I’ve put my pilot in some off road conditions that it made it through that may surprise some!

Should you tow in sports mode? or regular mode ? or does it really matte? I thought maybe sports mode because of less shifting and more torque being use. What are your thoughts?

The OEM upgrade of a trans cooler gives a higher towing capacity. i added it with mine.

White exterior/black cloth interior with the 6spd and navigation that's all I need from the pilot. 9spd have been really bad transmissions, good luck with them.

Even less of a reason to get an MDX now! I reviewed the 2016 pilot and the only fault I found was loud cabin noise. MDX is a pilot with lipstick at best.

I test drove one of those at 6rpm the engine sounds like it’s gonna break apart and rattles horribly bad, 2020 model . Huge fail and still slow . Nice inside though .

So macho looking now! Definitely not the AWD trim Odyssey anymore...no sir.......(is this enough ellipsis to make my point?)........ As far as the hardware, i-VTM-4 isn't a bad on demand 4wd system but remember that 70% torque to the rear wheels means that 30% will never get there, unlike a part time or locked full time system that can send 100% to either axle as needed. It won't matter much until you lift a wheel going up a steep hill where there wont be a lot of weight on the front axle and the rear axle will be tasked with the bulk of the tractive effort. I mean...it's fine for the AWD odyssey trim. To be honest its better than most systems, but anything much more than a family crossover it aint.

With Honda's transmissions made out of Wax I wouldn't even try to tow an empty baby stroller.

The pilot might have good reliability but the ride is way to harsh for anyone with arthritis in their spine.

AWD is a waste of money on a crossover because its designed for use on paved roads. It won't un stick you.

Why is the fuel economy so terrible on these vehicles. I mean these are similar fuel economy numbers to trucks! F150 2.7 gets 20 26

Why in the world would you buy this thing with FWD, I'm guessing they have that option for all the people that don't know what AWD or FWD means and opt for the FWD one to save some bucks. LOL, if you wanted the FWD one just get an Odysee, maybe they don't like sliding doors, whatever.

That's way too much for the elite..no way. Just get an Infiniti or something for a little more not a honda.

This video for the most part was useless. They kept showing inside (his face) rather than car outside what it's doing and how it's overcoming an obstacle. I did not enjoy this video. Sorry TFLC (Thumbs down)

This "SUV" is the utlimate example of how people need a people carrier but wants to look less like mini-van. It's pathetic. A minivan, definitely gives better interior space in every way. Can you deny that? No you cant. Im sorry, ever since the Pilot came out a few years back, I never like how bulbous in looked. The new Pilot should had been more like a traditional SUV, just like how the older gen was. That looked more like an SUv even though it was a unibody. I bet that'll do better off-road than this giant blob.
