I’ve owned a 2010 pilot, excellent vehicle especially with the 3rd row and I currently own a 2016 highlander also an excellent vehicle, the highlander has more creature comforts and the engine is a lot more peppy the wind noise is true with the highlander but overall I’d take the Toyota MPG is a little better as well.

I absolutely love my 2017 Highlander Hybrid. It's very quick accelerating from a stop and in passing at highway speeds. The seats could be a little more comfortable, and access to the 3rd row is still far more difficult than that of my 2015 Honda Pilot. The 2015 Pilot is also a great car. It is much roomier and quiet than my Highlander, and it gets around in the snow better than any car I've ever driven. All told, the Pilot is a more comfortable vehicle, but the Highlander feels more agile and gets almost twice as many MPG. I also handed down my 2010 Highlander Hybrid to my daughter. The 2010 still looks new and drives great at around 150K miles. Bottom line, we've owned multiple model years of both vehicles, and they were all great cars.

we bought a new 2005 Pilot and loved it so much that in 2008 we bought a used 2003. Big difference in the 2! The 2003 did develop transmission problems after we had it for about 5 years. Still drove it until we traded it in back in 2019. We still have the 2005, and have just done the normal maintenance. It has 158,000 miles and it's still going strong. In October we took it on a 3,500 mile trip and it performed perfectly. The only problem we are having is the CD changer is now acting up and need to be replaced. I would rather drive this in the snow than my 4 wheel drive truck. It's a great snowmobile!

Totally agree about handling in snow. My 05 Pilot has gotten me through some ridiculous snow storms in Rochester, NY and it just pushes through flawlessly with the power/torque of the motor and the 4WD system Honda has put in it.

I love the Highlander and Pilot. In 2019 i set out to buy a new mid size suv. After driving the 2019 Highlander XLE from Orlando to Washington DC, I knew it wasn’t for me and my family. Nothing against it…..just wasn’t big enough or functional enough compared to the Gen 3 2019 Honda Pilot. Pricing being compared, I bought a 2019 AWD Honda Pilot Touring. I honestly love the Pilot. I pulled a 4200 lbs Geo Pro 20BHS from Vancouver, BC to Orlando, FL. The 3.5 Earth Dream Vtec with the newly programmed 9 speed is quick, powerful and sporty enough to most jobs done. It’s large enough to haul a family of 4, a 70 lbs malamute, and 15 lbs Shih Tzu across country with their cargo. It just is more capable. My only warning is that I think Toyota in general still makes a more reliable product. My Pilot, while capable and extremely accessible and well designed interior is awesome…..it has an Achilles heal. The infotainment system has plagued the Pilot since 2018. If you buy a Pilot, beware the California Lawsuit against Honda for this issue. Mine was unfortunately one of the impacted vehicles. It took Honda until this April to figure out the solution. It still isn’t 100% corrected and worry free but at least works 90% of the time. In general I feel like my Pilot will last 200k if I take care of it. I still feel like Toyota makes a 300k mile lifetime Highlander.

I have a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite. I love it. The early transmission shutter of the 2016 was fixed and it is a great vehicle. Have done nothing but routine maintenance. I have had prior Honda’s with power steering problems. That was all fixed with the new electric rack. No more hydraulic pump to service. The transmission service at 30k is not cheap but I figure it is better to pay for maintenance than repairs later. I love the look of the Honda more than the Toyota. Plus the Pilot has more room. All the seats fold flat. So I can pile the dogs in in the weekends and clients during the week. Great vehicle. Have had it over 3 years so not merely an initial review here.

Hi! I have my heart set on a 2017 Pilot and we were about to make the jump and buy it. But the more research I do, the more I read about the 16 & 17' having transmission problems and acceleration problems and have a hard ride. I am torn. I love EVERYTHING the 3rd gen pilots have to offer, but we're afraid to pull the trigger if there's problems that are guaranteed to happen. The pilot we're inquiring is the 2017 Ex-L with 78k miles for 26,500.00 from a private seller. I don't want to spend that much money and have to turn around and put more money into it.

My 2011 pilot has been trouble free with one exception. The front brake rotors would warp in less than 10,000 miles. I replaced them with oem honda rotors a few times, no luck, I tried a few pairs of aftermarket, same problem. A few years ago I put on a pair of “power stop” brand rotors. They were expensive but they are holding up beautifully.

All these new cars are everything older luxury cars were, just without the really high quality leather, wood grains, and expensive suspension systems. They already ride fantastic, are quiet, have plenty of power, and most of the time the chairs are good. Hell, even my new VW Golf has less road noise than some Mercedes I've driven.

I have a 2015 highlander with 85,000 miles in NYC. Volume and tuning knobs broke when wiping them during my first month of ownership. Last year the plastic around the car seat cracked and the edges of the front seats along the side of the door flattened out (lost their cushiness). Bracket fell off exhaust and it rattles. A few weeks ago the passengers side window would go up slightly when I tried to close it, and then back down. I had to do it at least 10 times to get it to go up. It has been okay since then. No rebooting or blacking out of display console and no other problems. Car drives like it did when I first got it. Reliable, fast with 6 cyl engine, and comfortable. Would buy again. I had a Honda CRV prior to this for 9 years. Nothing ever broke or went bad but I like my highlander a lot more anyway for comfort and performance and reliability.
