2019 Hyundai Veloster N - One Take 

If people don't go out and buy these, this may be last new hot hatch we see in the US for a long time. At 30 grand for a 95% Type R you have no excuses.

Hyundai built a hot hatch with fantastic handling, plenty of power, unique styling, only sells it with a 6-speed manual, it's comparable to the Civic Type R but $6k (CAD) cheaper AND it doesn't have the build quality of cheap toy. That's a sentence that would've been a joke 15 years ago.

I think it's incredible the N is even comparable to the Type R. If this is Hyundai N's first attempt at a performance car, I can't wait to see what comes next!

Owned mine for a year+, LOVE it! I use the N mode for autocross, the rest of the time I use Custom mode with the suspension in soft. One thing to consider is the cost to maintain the car, only $70 for a full synthetic oil change at the dealership, and I've had zero maintenance issues.

Just banging it off the rev limiter constantly. LOVE IT!

Such a fan of this powder blue color and the seat belts are effin awesome in the matching blue. Really want this car.. Can't wait to see what they do with SUVs... Japanese automakers have to watch Hyundai / Kia in the rear view mirror...cuz they might be passing them in the future

I have a 2014 R-Spec Veloster. This looks and sounds like it has everything I wish mine had and then some! Way to go Hyundai.

I bought a used base N earlier this year before the lockdowns, its a great little car especially for the price paid. Obviously if you can get a PP (Performance Pack) and can afford it get the PP, the exhaust and diff will honestly make the difference, problem is they were being marked up a lot so it was hard to get one around MSRP. The base still handles really well, we have a super twisty road near me and it handles it great even without the lsd and bigger wheels. if youre not gonna track ir or autox it, a base is great, if youre going to do either of those things, id wait for the PP honestly

Just got a Turbo R.Spec Veloster and you're right about the driver side door being a bit large. I park in small, packed parking garages frequently and have to squeeze myself in and out and worry about scratching interior plastic. Minor gripe, but I also wouldn't mind a smaller door.

I bought a 2019 Veloster R-spec and It just drives me crazy seeing that theres a WAY better version of my car out there that i cant really afford.

I would also prefer a 4 door layout but for a different reason: I like storing stuff (backpack, camera bag, etc.) away in the rear seat, so having a door on the driver's side would be faster and way more accessible.

Hands down the best Hot Hatch on the market, especially when considering the price! My neighbor has one and I absolutely loved whipping it around the neighborhood. Just wish I could have opened it up. That exhaust is insane, though I'm sure our neighborhood hates this car, lol.

How did it ride compared to the Type R? I’ve heard from a lot of different reviews that the Type R’s suspension is very livable compared to most of the other hot hatches. The type R is also more practical on the interior. I do agree though that the N looks better.

First I wanna say, I LOVE the Asymmetrical doors haha I'm 6'4 tho and don't fit in the Type R nearly as well as I do in this. Also, I chose the N over the Type R for one huge reason, markups! Cheapest 2019 Type R I could find (and the 2020 was already out) was $40k!!! (msrp $34,700) and the 2020 was marked up to $48k!!! ($38,700 msrp) I got my Veloster N WITH Performance Package (msrp $30,500) for $28k and couldn't have been happier whatsoever Have an air intake and downpipe now too and even without a tune am already faster than a stock Type R for $19,000 less

Ironic that today you post your review of the car and Hyundai Finally has it on their website (it was saying coming soon for ages). That's gotta be some clever marketing done well. Matt, did you notice your foot hitting thaw wiring harness still? My buddy has the R and my size 14 was kinda locked in place between the clutch and the wiring harness. Also the top of my feet would sometimes hit the dash. This is deal breaker level stuff

I really want to learn to rev match but I have a MK7 golf tsi, and it is extremely hard to get to the gas and brake. They are far apart and the gas pedal is lower. It's not that it's awkward, its just I can't seem to reach the both pedals.

What an entry from Hyundai. Sounds great! I think the only major flaw is the gearing...that 3rd gear is just a little too tall. They should have kept the 2nd-3rd ratios closer. But perhaps you can reduce the drop in power with tuning.

More fun than a GTI, less expensive than a Type R, man, I really like this car

I30 N looks better, it would also solve your door issue but I don’t think you get it in the states. I think I’d still have a Mk7.5 GTi.

Any chance we'll see something like this but AWD? I'd like an AWD Elantra N. I feel like they can do Subaru better than Subaru at this point.

I was selling Hyundai when they came out with the 1st Veloster. This new version is miles ahead if the original. Taking it off the Accents platform was key. Albert has really done a great job for Hyundai. I hope they put the new 2.4 T motor in this car. I hear they now have dual injection in that new motor. Both port and GDI!!!

Anyone have any idea how the SCCA might class this? If this car makes it into G street instead of D with the CTR, I'd imagine it'd be a monster.

I would agree with the driver side door being bigger than it needs to be. But I still like the 3 door layout. One of the more unique cars out there.

How reliable are these things actually tho? Ive heard nightmare stories about the velosters blowing up. I bet parts are pretty affordable but whats the point if you gotta fix this thing all the time

They should bring the I30N to the US. For nearly 30k i'd expect a sunroof option, different interior colors, soft touch armrests and blind spot monitoring since the rear pillars are massive

I wonder if changing the shocks setting would have helped with the understeer... you were kinda moving out there. Really digging the blue color !

As a Korean I used to hate Hyundai but thesedays I can see they r getting better.

I never cared for Hyundai, but they’ve made some huge improvements in quality, reliability and styling. I don’t love the doors, but the styling and price with that performance....can’t beat it. I actually hope this one does really well so it pushes others to follow suit. How is it that any performance hatch you actually want costs 40k? Keep it under 30k and you’ll sell a billion of them
